Swede,

You're correctamundo, Compadre------- on the SCIAC Pick 'em Board, you and Olddog are the only guys who have predicted UR will finish in 1st place. 8-)
Thanks Hemi :) :) + heading your way

Heard Bobby Brown was just cleared to play due to a concussion and they were not going to use unless needed, so that is why he only played five plays. He should be ready to roll for La Verne.
Hopefully UR gets Justin Butler back, an all conference linebacker, who dressed last night but did not play.
Read Coach Macs blog, have to agree UR winning the short yardage situations on defense were the game changer.

Just the facts, ma'am. The two missed field goals were the big deal because of the timing.

I know I don't have to do this but the highest paid public pension in the state of Oregon is Mike Bellotti at $40,000 a month.

Don't know how they marked Chapman down at the one inch line on that 2nd down.  Bad spot but Bellotti blowing that kick was brutal.  He's been struggling this season.  CLU might want to open that position battle back up.

I think the spot may have been bad too, that call and the late hit on the punt return were the two bad calls. They called late hit on Tootles and he was right in front of me, the whistle had not blown. Looked like Chapman got in too. I remember CLU blocking a kick to win all a couple years ago and the big comeback at their first home game on the new field. . UR outplayed CLU all night except the last 7 minutes then almost imploded. On the Dean fumble, the d line got a great push, I think Dean did not grab it off the center's butt, since he dose not go under center too often, but the two inside DT just stuff CLU 300+ pounders back. I saw the ball come up and at that point he has to grab it. If is was a QB sneak he would not have gotten in.

It's tough to believe he wouldn't have been able to get the 1 inch but I think you are right.  The ball came up, hit him square in the hands and by the time he looked down there were bodies all over him.  You are absolutly correct about Redlands outplaying CLU and unlike a few years ago, CLU couldn't unwrap the gift Redlands was trying to give them.

I know this has been talked about a bunch but CLU really needs to establish younger guys and stop withh all the transfers.  You read all the blogs and it's made to sound like they are bringing in guys and building them up for 2-3 years of starting, when in fact they keep bringing in guys for a short period of time to play.  I don't mean to sound like it is like this with all positions, it just seems like it's with the skill guys.  What is wrong with developing a younger guy?  I really don't think CLU has the identity they believe they have....I feel like it's forced confidence and chest thumping.  Yes, they won 4 SCIAC's in a row but having to promote that you are the Golden State Champs is just silly in my eyes.  Don't get me wrong, Coach Mac and his staff have done a great job taking a very below average program and turning into one of the most dominant in the SCIAC.  It really has been great, there is just a ton of work left to get things done on a national stage.  I know other schools bring in transfers, but do they rely on them like CLU has been?  Maybe I am way off on this but I think the other night showed a team that is trying to find out it's identity after dropping the game to PLU and getting thumped by Linfield.  Hopefully the other night showed some of those guys that they can and need to make their own identity.  Tradition isn't something that can be forced, it has to be passed down and appreciated and I really think a lot of the "traditions" at CLU are forced.

Wow, that was a lot for a Monday morning.

Jack, thanks for your honest comments. Yes is was surreal how UR tried to serve it up on a plate to CLU. I really think the UR defense as a whole was the hero, it was by far their best game. Keeping CLU off the board for over 3.5 quarters is a big.
On transfers, I quickly scanned their roster at half time, roughly a 1/3 of the kids were transfers. I did not take the time to figure out how many were main stream players. I have no problem with it because I think Coach Mac and CLU is an honest program, they are within their rights. Coach Mac will tell recruits that we take kids anytime, I know this can be turn off to some kids. I think Coach Mac keeps the transfer door open because it is really tough to get enough quality athletes to compete on the national stage, especially linemen, plus I do not think the SCIAC conference is as committed as others. CLU and Redlands actually chase kids during the recruiting process, Chapman sits back to some degree and other are just softer sell. I think if any SCIAC team ever wins one play off game it would be a major upset, given who we draw....NWC champ or Mary Hardin Baylor.
The fun with UR winning is it makes the next couple weeks far more interesting and no game is a gimme for UR. They will need another great effort to slow down Chapman's offense.

Count me in as another vote that Chapman got in on 2nd down.  That was a bit of a head scratcher, although I was only watching on the video feed so maybe those in person saw something I didn't.  Oh well...

As for the transfer talk, I think you play the cards you are dealt.  Obviously CLU has established themselves as a transfer-friendly school but I don't think that means they aren't trying to bring guys up through the ranks.  Following Coach Mac on twitter etc, he pumps up freshmen that get to start, last week I believe he noted Thompson was the 44th freshman to get to start in the last 5 years.  I think there is an attempt to promote the recruits that come up through the program but reality is the top players each year have often been transfers.  If the team can stay on top for the next several years I'd expect that transfer % to go down as they are able to land higher-level recruits as freshmen. In the overall scheme of things it's still early in this resurgence of Cal Lu football and if they can keep a consistent coaching staff to go along with the new facilities, they have a good chance to take it to another level in the upcoming decade.

Congrats to Redlands on the big win. Great win for Redlands and tough loss for Cal Lutheran.

Ha!  That was awesome.

Sparing a thought (or should I say a prayer) now for CMS. This weekend the Stags face the ill-starred assignment of playing in Cal-Lu's Homecoming game when the Kingsmen are, doubtless, ultra-pumped to send a crystal-clear message to the remainder of their SCIAC schedule that losing to UR was a fluke.

Most unequivocally of all, Chapman will be getting the message that Cal-Lu's final conference game at Orange is going to be a real humdinger! 8-)

Gray Fox,

Given that CMS has precious few subs, I assume you mean that Cal-Lu might decide to show the Stags some mercy!   ;D
