Count me in as another vote that Chapman got in on 2nd down.  That was a bit of a head scratcher, although I was only watching on the video feed so maybe those in person saw something I didn't.  Oh well...

As for the transfer talk, I think you play the cards you are dealt.  Obviously CLU has established themselves as a transfer-friendly school but I don't think that means they aren't trying to bring guys up through the ranks.  Following Coach Mac on twitter etc, he pumps up freshmen that get to start, last week I believe he noted Thompson was the 44th freshman to get to start in the last 5 years.  I think there is an attempt to promote the recruits that come up through the program but reality is the top players each year have often been transfers.  If the team can stay on top for the next several years I'd expect that transfer % to go down as they are able to land higher-level recruits as freshmen. In the overall scheme of things it's still early in this resurgence of Cal Lu football and if they can keep a consistent coaching staff to go along with the new facilities, they have a good chance to take it to another level in the upcoming decade.

I would love to see the tape, but it looked like his head was in, the only thing is maybe the ball tucked pretty deep in his belly/chest and just maybe the ref could not see it clearly, so did not give it to him. I was surprised it was not called a TD, but the camera and Fan angle is not the best.

Gray Fox,

Given that CMS has precious few subs, I assume you mean that Cal-Lu might decide to show the Stags some mercy!   ;D
Yes, that would be good.

From one of your previous posts:  "Quite an interesting contest at Claremont.  CMS jumped to a 22 – 7 halftime lead before Oxy reeled off 31 straight points".

They could try that approach to get the fans excited. ;)

UR/ULV

Who would have thought this game would be for part of first place. Both teams are 2-0 in league and ULV is 3-1. However ULV's SOS is like 191 and UR's is 17th in the nation. I don't think the Bulldogs will be looking past this one, they know they are not that good.

UR's defense will continue to be the key to any team success. I think ULV will continue to attempt to establish their zone read offense and attempt to pass off zone play action to freeze the safeties. UR is much better at stopping the run than pass. ULV's OC is not afraid to dial it up, so UR should be ready for trick plays and passes on running downs. The key will be to stuff ULV early so they have to go to plan B and our D ends can pin their tails back and bring it. I think we only need to rush four to get pressure on the QB.

On offense, I think the OC - Good will continue to attempt to establish run, Bobby Brown should be back at full strength and I expect a 1, 2, punch of Brown and Tanq all night. I think for the rest of the season Good is going to use Russel our QB as poor man version of Chad Hurst. Russel has a decent first step and shake move but not a lot of top end speed, so he can get the first down to keep things rolling but breaking off big RGIII runs is not going to happen. Russel really needs to focus on making good throws and not forcing the ball. Look for UR to try to run for over 300 yards. I wish Good ran boot action more to our big TE and give Russel a run pass option, I love to see pressure put on DE and Linebackers to make a decision.

One final note, this will be our homecoming so the crowd should be decent and to the best of my knowledge Maynard has not lost to ULV. It is supposed to be beautiful night around 70 degrees and no rain, for all you NWC folks....

Just for the record, it will be raining in McMinnville for the LaVerne playoff game in November.   :-*

You clearly do not know OxyBob. Incoming, someone pass the popcorn please..

What's funny about that post is that it's by RFB, who actually played and won at UR, to olddog, who's yet just another in a continuing series of Redlands blowhards. Don't worry, RFB, I have been around the SCIAC for 40 years, and have encountered countless olddogs, of which Redlands seems to have a never-ending supply. But olddogs come and go. OxyBob is forever.

Quite an interesting contest at Claremont.  CMS jumped to a 22 – 7 halftime lead before Oxy reeled off 31 straight points.

With only three seniors in their entire starting lineup, the Stags might well move into the top half of the conference next year.

Nice to see Oxy get a win against Claremont. The Stags are about Oxy's speed.

Hemingway, thanks for the laugh. Claremont's football program is an even bigger disaster than Oxy's, though at least Rick Candaele retired honorably after a decent 16-year career, and wasn't forced out by a vindictive AD over some trivial, two-bit infractions.

I love guys like Oxy - older than dirt, but other than cut and paste, tell us one football insight you have added this season? . Yet behind a keyboard call folks names,.....any coward can do that!  You and your buddies will need to bring more medicine for your parking lot warm up as the season goes on.
Just make sure you have a driver by season end.

OB is probably a more thorough bball poster than fball.  He and I have a history: he ragged me so badly for months and months after an IWU @ Oxy (bball) loss (claiming I said things I never said, but he inferred), that I totally melted down one evening and cussed him out with barely (if at all) deleted expletives.  He cancelled his account for awhile, and there was a move by some to have me banned (fortunately for me, Pat Coleman posted that I HAD been mercilessly provoked).

OxyBob is NOT a coward (and I'm sure nearly every bball poster in the SCIAC knows him personally; don't have any idea about fball).  I have come to respect his insights very much, despite our run-in.  (And he may be older than dirt, but I'm not sure he is older than Mr. Ypsi! ;D)  Be careful who you pick fights with, especially when you chastise him for anonymity while posting as 'olddog'. ::)

(BTW, Mr. Ypsi used to post under his real name, but renamed himself 'Mr. Ypsi' when Pat referred to him that way in a sarcastic way, then HoF poster sac chimed in that I should adopt the name; coincidentally(?) this all happened while the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival was going on - who was I to buck obvious karma??!!)

Mr Y, I do not pick fights on a social boards, go through all my post. I do not get personal....the boys in the NW have teased me and I think it is pretty funny.....they come up with some pretty good lines...., calling people names from ones desk is a cowardly act. I think some people when they get old think they can say what they want, when they want...I do not buy that line. He started use the adjectives. I really do not care if Pat banned me today...I have not said anything other than ask why the negative comments. Pat should be prompting Bob to knock it off.

Ypsi,

OB deleted his accounts and all his posts when he felt threatened by someone who no longer posts on these boards.  We lured him back by offering him free tailgating privileges for life. :)

D.O.C.,

Maybe the annual SCIAC/NWC playoff game will be at La Verne. ;D

So it was just coincidental that it was immediately after I attacked him?  And totally coincidental that a campaign was launched to ban me from the boards?  And you charge for tailgating privileges?? :o ;D

It was NOT you.

I should have used the word "freeloading" rather than "free."  He probably was charming his way to free food anyway.  He is quite charming in person.
