The Chapman QB article bring forward, UR recruits North CA pretty heavy since their are not any D3 schools  in NorCal and the only small college 4 year options are Menlo (NAIA and limited degree options) and Humbolt (D2).
But plenty in Oregon. The Linfield, Pacific, Lewis & Clark and Willamette rosters are full of Nor Cal kids. As well as Southern Oregon just over the border in Ashland.

Recap of Last Night at UR.

Pomona is just a shell of a team, I counted nine players out and on the sidelines. 34 kids dressed. I know they held out their start running back a few years ago so he would be healthy for the Claremont game. I hope this was the same, but three players were on crutches.
If UR had any kind of offense we put 70 on them. Tough to see how CLU did not beat them by more.

The Good: UR special teams blocking was much better this game, one could tell they have been working on it. Some nice run backs. Field Goal blocking was solved by putting three d linemen on the line. Wow, UR uses their d linemen up the gut in field goal for protection.
Kicking off went well for the most part, more touchbacks.
The defense played very well, db's broke well to the ball and D line brought pressure. Hence many picks and a pick six. 21 points came for turnovers or special teams. PP could not run up the middle. UR second string backers need to work in fills, when one back is in the backfield should not be taking long to plug holes.
It will be slightly interesting to see Poets offense versus the UR defense. UR defense has given up just 7 TD's this year in the SCIAC.
That is why they are 6-0. Best defense in the league...Best I have seen in the league for a few years.

The bad: The O line needs to hold blocks, UR worked on throwing the ball deep which was big for Russell, to get the work in.
Our AA FG kicker Grady is really struggling, I sure hope a play off upset does not rely on him. I think he is 4 out of 12 this year. He is just shanking the ball.

It was nice to see the back up get in, I just love watching fired up kid going in.
One more game than UR head to somewhere cold.

Olddog,
Another cogent commentary, and you're right in sync with the KCAA guys analyses. Jim Goode in postgame interview very enthused about QB Russell's progress, but they didn't ask about Curtis Tanquary, so do you have any news about him?

I'm mucho stoked for them locking up first title in 6 years (Maynard's 11th, our 29th all-time)! :)

Hemi,

I heard Tanq tweaked his ankle in practice a bit and coaches kept him out, he should play next week. They shut a handful of players down early.

Next week even though it is the Poets we need to work on just finishing drives and plays. Even Bobby Brown is nicked up a bit, so expect to see the freshman backs if we get up early.

It is obvious Maynard is going to play the field position game in the playoffs and attempt to steal one on the road. If we can draw LF, Whitewater, or Bethal....we have a chance given how tough our defense is and we can stop the running game.

Many thanks, Olddog.

That's a big relief to hear Tanquary isn't badly injured.

As for playoffs, just a great reward for these young men to experience the uniqueness of whatever section of the country they're sent.

KCAA guys reckon Chapman still has a slim hope of an At-large bid if they beat CLU decisively, but their SOS is weak.

Mr. Ypsi

There are only 5 Pool C spots this year.  Have you seen the competition?

Chapman = <zero chance of a bid. :P

Mr Y,

I haven't a clue about the competition for Playoff bids, so appreciate hearing your expertise on Chapman's "zero chance".

Cheers!

Well.....I suppose 5 or 6 teams could suddenly become disqualified or something....then Chapman might get in..... :)

There are several threads concerning playoffs you may want to read, Pool B, and Pool C in the General Football board and the regional rankings thread on this west region board. Chapman isn't mentioned in any of them. As mentioned, zero chance as their SOS is so low with no quality wins.

We would welcome the challenge.
