This is just not the year the SCIAC will improve their playoff win percent.
Yeah---all credit to Redlands for winning the SCIAC this year but they certainly don't seem like a strong contender, even by SCIAC standards, this year.  That being said, I'd love to see them prove me wrong and upset somebody in round 1 so that they can enjoy the CatDome in round 2! :)
Go Cats!

I would too.....I remember a few years ago I think they went to SJU and almost pulled off an upset. But I don't think this years team is anywhere near that level.

In honor of tomorrow's Battle for the Peace Pipe, this just in from Claremont McKenna A.D. Mike Sutton.

Wish this were a joke, but it's not.  Only in Claremont, folks.

On the bright side, members of the Board are invited to make suggestions for the replacement trophy's designation. I myself, in an effort to preserve, at least obliquely, the indigenous nature of the totem, propose scalping both Kyle Sweeney and Roger Caron, and mounting both scalps on a plaque--after which the game will be known as "The Battle for the Big Ass-Hat."

Anyways, the winged words from CMC's AD:

"Dear Athletes, Alumni, Friends, and Colleagues:

Yesterday afternoon the football coaches for the Pomona-Pitzer (PP) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) football teams informed the players that no trophy would be exchanged following this weekend's game between the two teams.

CMS Athletics and PP Athletics have decided to retire and replace the Peace Pipe trophy, which is exchanged each year by the players of the two programs following their annual football game.

The decision is a result of ongoing discussions with members of the Claremont Colleges' Indigenous Student Alliance (ISA), who expressed their cultural concerns about using a sacred object as a trophy.

Both athletic departments have agreed to retire the Peace Pipe trophy and to replace it with a new tradition in time for next year's game.

The 'Peace Pipe,' also known as the Sacred Pipe, the calumet, or the chanupa (or canupa), is a sacred object for many indigenous groups in the United States and is intended for use in religious rituals.

Going forward, a committee consisting of members of the two athletic departments will convene to explore options for future trophy exchanges between the teams that continue the spirit of the Peace Pipe trophy, which was created in 1959 to symbolize the friendly nature of the competition between the two campuses.

We appreciate the concerns that have been raised and we think this is the best path forward.

Thanks,

Michael Sutton

Well, there goes my favorite baking soda - Calumet. It's enough to make me want to take a big whiff off a peace bong - if I ever did such a thing.

If they can't use calumet, maybe the "arm and hammer" trophy will do. ::)

Well since medical weed is legal in California you might has well go with the "Golden Bong Trophy".  Stoners would object but they would keep forgetting to send in complaints.

Wow. Yet another sign of the Wimpification of America. People are doing a great job of becoming offended and making themselves victims these days.  Given the reason for the trophy, the Peace Pipe was actually a very fitting trophy.  I'm sure the people of indigenous people groups everywhere will sleep much better at night knowing this grievous offense has been corrected.  :o

Mr. Sutton and the P-P Athletic Department have earned my admiration for their decision to retire and replace the Peace Pipe trophy.

Thanks for your service to our country. You are part of the reason we have the freedom to disagree! +k

In the leadership position Mr. Sutton occupies, his decisions (or input on decisions) are often likely to gain the respect of some and lose the respect of others. Goes with the territory.

OK, now time for some new Chapman posters asking how come they don't get in the playoffs.

Congrats to Redland's and Chapman on nice wins today.  :) :)

Ditto....I too abstain from any post on the subject.

D O.C.---

Most, if not all, Chapman fans are aware that CU will not make the playoffs due to our Redlands loss and weak SOS.

But, I do compliment our Panthers for their 8-1 (best in school history) record this year.

Compliments and congrads to Redlands and good luck in the playoffs.

Refer to D3 scoreboard and click on the box score for the CLU/CU stats....very interesting.

Chapman dominated that game much more than the score/stats show.  Chapman played with a chip on it's shoulder and was 10X more physical that CLU.  It got them a few penalties but I was pretty impressed.  CLU needs to re-evaluate their D before next year or they are going to be middle of the pack in the SCIAC for many years to come.
