Cat thanks for the clarification. One of my two boys were recruited in the SCIAC...I sat through a few orientations. I am doubting that is what the other SCIAC coach said based on my experience. I think this is what the kid heard, big difference between you could get beat out by a transfer versus you wont play. Kids are smart enough to say if that is the case why do you want me if I am not that good and obviously the starters are not all transfer. In fairness of full disclosure does coach Mac tell the freshman how many transfers are coming?  So I guess what I should of said is coach your talking to a 17 year old, do you think he heard all the message or just parts? BTW part is true, you have a worse odds at CLU. Remember coach Mac the fee bill is not paid by the school it is paid by the parents, so much different purchasing criteria than let's compete and ride the bench.

Cat, Check out Mac's post today. Pretty interesting and I love those kinds of stories. I know he reads this board sometimes because he has made an Oxy Bob reference. It's cool, he made his point. Once again for the record Mac is a quality guy and coach. His ex-players respect and swear by him which is a great accomplishment. I tell high school kids to check out his program and have no problem is my family member want to play for him.  Just a little fun during the boring season.

Regarding recruiting in the SCIAC, it all comes down to who has the best linemen. It so tough in the SCIAC to find quality guys that can help up front as freshman. They really have to build them, most of the time. UR, CLU, Chapman, and Oxy...this season will come down to whose front play the best not the skills, all the teams have some pretty good skills players.

Totally disagree with you. I've read his blog and think he is a smug, cocky jerkoff. He's a perfect fit to lead that program because my experience playing them says the same thing for their players. He thinks his Cal Who program is on the level of Mt. Union when reality says they will be a flash in the pan. La Verne had a similar run in the 90's and have not been heard from since. Can't wait for The Who to go back to their usual third place finish in the SCIAC. Go Dawgs!

Oh, how I miss Snoop Dawg! (and his clones).  I would love to see what he had to say about the topic of transfer players and the relative pluses and minuses of CLU and Redlands. :P

A good discussion for the off season and time for professional posts bulletin boards in the fall.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Oxy president Jonathan Veitch. For the second straight year, none of Oxy's 21 men's and women's teams won a SCIAC championship. During that time the only other SCIAC school to achieve a record of no conference championships is Caltech.

Under Veitch's stellar leadership, not only is Oxy well on its way to becoming an athletic laughingstock, but Veitch also got the school onto a very exclusive list: Oxy is one of 55 colleges and universities being investigated by the federal Education Department over their handling of sexual abuse complaints under Title IX.

Well done, president Veitch! Another beloved president couldn't have said it better: "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."

And this is such a great representation of the UR program.  Well done.

I also don't know where he has ever compared them to Mt. Union but I easily could have missed something in the past.

Oh there is no love loss between UR and CLU players that is pretty clear. Some pretty close games. If you were involved in the CLU comeback game and the tipped fg, BTW by a transfer into CLU...you would be pretty fired up. UR could have won the last four games just as easily, but they did not...it was fun as a fun.

We will find out real fast where UR and Chapman compare after both play Linfield in the preseason. The Regals schedule is a little softer this year, I don't think PLU will be as strong (lost linemen) . I understand UR is having a hard time getting opponents from the NW to come down other than PLU and LF...Winning the SCIAC makes scheduling tougher. Midwest teams don't want to come out here to play.

RFB,

Can you help me out with this?  How classy of a guy is coach Squires?

The only thing I can comment on was the "F*ck Redlands" & "F*ck Maynard" chants from the 1993 Cal Lu team. Pretty bush league if you ask me as Coach Maynard is nothing but class all the way. Some Who supporters have come on this board and said it never happened but it did indeed because I heard it with my own ears. When I played we were 3-1 against the Who. No doubt they were the team we wanted to monkeystomp the most.

I call it like I see it and my disdain for Cal Who goes back a little bit. Can't wait to see them implode as a program.

olddog

RFB...I love your fire, must of been a backer.

The irony is if anyone knows Maynard he is far from those attributes that CLU is know to exhibit. The Regal's fans did throw out some foul cheers.  If you were not at the game last year, it was extremely quiet after the game from their side with the exception of a drunken fan being arrested by the sheriffs. The Dawgs were dancing, it took the boys a long time to leave the field. They savored the moment, photo etc...

I will say they showed class when they walked the Smudge Pot over to Maynard. It was a pretty cool scene, led by Coach Mac who looked in shock. When you have to hand it to the winner, it is humbling.
