Congrats to the Stags from CMU, great win. This loss assures the Regals of a second loosing season in a row. What will coach Mac blog this time.
We know his player are young kids, it is week 8...UR is now down 7 starters today. Played a bunch of young guys too.

BTW, hats off the Coach Maynard. The first string offense was not giving the effort they should, he put the entire second string offense in and they went down the field and scored making it 10-0 in the first quarter.

Watched ULV vs Chapman. ULV played a lot better against Chapman than UR. ULV second string qb (Gomez) played this game due to a shoulder injury Livingston suffered on a UR hit. Livingston is a much better passer than Gomez and ULV might have been able to pull of the upset if they had a more vertical game. Chapman looked like they were looking past this game. ULV ran the ball well on Chapman.
Chapman struggled to be consistent on the ground. Chapman could throw on ULV at will. I still think it will be close game next week, and come down to turn overs. More to follow later in the week.

Final thoughts about Whittier,  I really wish UR offense could finish better in the red zone,  but what was supposed to be the strength of the team this year has not developed. The defense continues to get better despite missing their best DB, best d linemen, and very athletic SS and all conference corner. The young replacements have played well, bodes well for the future.
I was also impressed with the freshman class and young reserves. They played well, I feel good about our future in this conference. UR recruited well in both the D line and O line, there are three or four kids that will really help us in a couple years.

One thing that I loved about UR yesterday is Whittier was hitting late after the play when the contact did not have anything to do with play. Once could see UR players finding those guys in subsequent plays and putting the wood to guys legally during the play. Many of the Poets stopped doing that crap by the second quarter because UR took care of that kind of stuff that is not part of the game. Maynard taught his boys well.

Lastly great story undersized junior 5' 10"220 pound D tackle #56 Khoury who has not seen the field in two years,  was given the opportunity to play in a 40 package, due to injury. Coaches cannot take him out, two sacks yesterday and his speed is creating havoc. going down the line.  Love to see i...

For those of you who missed it, Oxy beat Pomona 41-17. From the game write-up:

QuoteOxy Football Hall of Fame: At halftime, nine Oxy football greats were inducted into the revived Occidental Football Hall of Fame. It is the program's third year since renewing the tradition that was dormant for several decades.

All but one of the inductees were members of Oxy's 1982 team that defeated the University of San Diego 34-20 on national television during the NFL player's strike, despite being a heavy underdog. Under then first-year head coach Dale Widolff, that 1982 team sparked a three-year SCIAC Championship run from 1983-1985, setting the tone for eight more championships after that and Oxy's rise as a West Region power for the next 30 years.

In other news, St. Scholastica is 9-0 going into its game next week against Greenville.

It is possible for a three way tie for the championship.
In which case the Rose Bowl Rule will be in effect, and Chapman will go to Belton for the first round.  It is always very cold that time of year in Belton.

Not too terribly cold, When we faced Whitewater now that was cold.. 28 on the field, but in the earlier pool play rounds we were in the 60's and as each week progressed it dropped.

We had one really, really cold game in Belton during the playoffs last year.  I don't remember which one (Rowan or SJF.  Probably the latter).  Windy, rainy, and sleet/ice.  Mid to upper 20s maybe?  Nasty conditions for both teams.  That's a little unusual, though.  For the most part I enjoy the winters here.

This is cool (no pun intended).  A couple of Texas lurkers already scouting their first round opponents.

Heh.  I'm just a fan of the game.  I lurk all the region sections.   ;D  You're right, though.  I do like to get an idea of who our potential first round opponent would be.
