DOC, I have been dealing with this issue all my life and grateful I overcame the issue from a business standpoint, I just do not see a letter in a word for some reason. I am blessed to say maybe this issue pushed me to be 3% of society that does not need to go on a game show to make that statement above.
If missing one letter in a word makes you feel better about yourself, I am glad to offer up the help. Have a wonderful day sir.

From the Chapman Athletics Page:

"• Chapman and Redlands face off for the second time in as many seasons with almost everything at stake. The SCIAC championship hangs in the balance as well as an automatic NCAA playoff berth. A victory would give the Panthers their first playoff berth in program history. A win for Redlands and they would still need to beat Oxy or a CU loss next week."

Am I the only one that doesn't understand this?  Why would Redlands still have to win next week or have Chapman lose again?

Pat Coleman

It only comes into play if Occidental wins this week. This is an incomplete statement at best. If Redlands beats Chapman and Oxy beats Redlands then there's a three-way tie for first, IF Oxy beats Cal Lu this week. And then I don't know where the three-way tiebreak is in the SCIAC -- if it's still the Rose Bowl Rule then Chapman is the team absent from the playoffs the longest so Redlands would need to avoid that three-way tie to get the AQ.

It is the Rose Bowl Rule. 3 way tie this year would go to Chapman. 2 way tie is head to head.

Thanks for the clarification Pat.  I sat here and looked at it in many different ways and I never was able to prove this as a current fact.

Of course everyone is leaving out the scenario that Oxy will beat CLU, Redlands will beat Chapman, Oxy will beat Redlands, and Whittier will beat Chapman, thereby giving Oxy the conference title and the right to go to McMinnville or Belton. Long odds, but, as our intrepid sideline reporter Lesley "olddog" Visser has told us before, "anything can happen."

Here's to Occidental being fun again.

Either team could have won on the Inland Empire cool grass tonight.
Kudos to Chapman College for winning their first SCIAC trophy.

RFB

Congratulations to Chapman on the win and SCIAC title. It was pretty simple, they were hungry and wanted it more than Redlands. A few observations on the game:

1. Chapman converting on 4th & 14 that led to a touchdown. Redlands has to make that stop, inexcusable.
2. The botched offensive possession at the end of the first half was a killer. It came back to haunt Redlands big time.
3. I didn't mind trying to pull off the early onside kick but the continued short kickoffs was a bad strategy. It allowed Chapman to play on a much shorter field for the majority of the game.
3. Redlands effort in the 3rd quarter was pathetic and gutless. Chapman came out and punched Redlands in the mouth and ran the ball down their throat. Redlands was flat, no emotion or fire in their bellies. They were basically a lifeless corpse from the players on the field to the coaches on the sidelines.
4. The end of the game was odd, it seems that Redlands came up with the ball while the pile was moving and the refs didn't blow the whistle. The refs looked really confused and ruled the ball to Chapman.
5. Just a bad day for the defense, no adjustments at all from the coaching staff to stop the run and get stops. I should bill my 120 miles of gas money to the defensive coaching staff for that display.

Moving forward, Redlands needs a major infusion of talent across the board. Chapman will be in prime position to elevate their program with tonights win. We'll see if Redlands steps it up or goes back to multiple, yearly second place finishes.
