LaVerne bussed to Linfield a few years back--brutal indeed

Hearing rumors that UR will be playing Menlo for one of their out of conference opponents. If true that would be a major scheduling disappointment. Nothing to be gained from playing team like Menlo, a struggling independent NAIA, would't help SOS with a win, but would be an ugly team to lose to.

I hope this isn't true, nothing to be gained in playing Menlo. I want Linfield on the schedule forever, need to play the best in order to become it. The next logical choice would be the NWC's second best program, whoever that is moving forward (PLU, Pacific, Willamette?)

Finding Menlo on your schedule is the proverbial turd in your punch bowl.

Martinez has said it is really tough finding games. Outside of PLU and LF, the NWC has recently passed on playing UR.
Other middle of the road team have no desire to play UR, given the trip cost and a loss. So UR struggles, to find game.
LF faces the same problem too.

Old time posters to this board are well aware of the phone problems LF and UR have had.  But it used to be between the two.

Oxy has played Austin College the past two years.  Maybe SCIAC schools should consider TLU, Trinity, and the new and improving Southwestern.  They are all having trouble getting games. :(

...sometimes it makes me wonder if being in D3/NCAA is even worth it for the west coast/texas schools.

Do you think DII would be a better match, like the route APU has taken?

Did some snooping and the Menlo rumor is very real. Apparently Redlands has email blasted the nation several times and no response, plus calls etc. They would love to keep playing LF for more than a two year contract, hopefully it works out. No response from the rest of the NW or Texas schools, zip. They were shocked MHB did not want to renew, since it has to be tough finding a game and their conference is just 5 schools. UR has been better preseason test than the other games they play, so not sure what the issue is. I know UR felt it was a great recruiting tool saying they play two top 10 teams. I think being a top 40 team on the West Coast leaves UR with less options. Not many  teams in the 50 to 100 ranking want anything to do with playing UR and the West Coast trip. I know LF has some traditions or other reasons for playing 9 games but finding a 10th D3 game against a decent school would be a challenge too. I am sure PLU faces the same issue and soon WU and Pacific. Heck it took Chapman 8 years to play any upper half NW schools, other than the Regals no one would touch the upper half of the NW. All these coaches love to posture.

The NCAA conference is in Jan, maybe something will shake out.

RFB, I know some folks in management at APU, their long term goal is to go D1 if possible, USD model. Maybe ten years out, but they want to bump the enrollment up over the next ten years, it all depend on how funding goes the next 5 years. The other rumor out there is some at Chapman say if the school does expands by 3000 plus over the next ten years, they too might need to move back up again. I think that rumor is just more some rich guys egos. Last tidbit of gossip. The most poorly ran school in the SCIAC, Whittier is suppose to increase their funding allocation for sports in an effort to make a multi prong attempt at revamping the school. WC has lived way to long on the past and done the least to move forward on so many fronts. I have my doubts but if they do the school has huge athletic upside given its location.

Six schools, actually. And eight schools next year.

Thanks Pat, maybe going to 8 schools changed things, plus they have a couple rivals they like to play.

hi Olddog - the 2015 UMHB Schedule (I would assume tentative) is out already
Ohio Wesleyan
Milsaps
UW- LaCrosse
Belhaven
Sul Ross
Louisiana
Texas Lutheran
Hardin Simmons
Howard Payne
East Texas Baptist
And it looks like Belhaven is in conference so that looks like 6 in conference

So that is what is posted so far

I don't mean to sound like a donkey here but this is not just an issue with UR, it's the entire West Coast.  Linfield flew to CA twice this year to get good games but that is not something that would be common at all.  It takes a lot of $$$ to travel and play these games but we are talking like UR is the '72 Dolphins and everyone in the country is terrified of them.  I think it's much more about what contracts the other schools already have with each other.  I do agree that getting games with L&C or UPS would be a waste of time for Redlands, but maybe the NWC isn't the place they need to look.  Hell, Pomona went all the way to MIT to play.

Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing UR but it's not a problem only they have.  I thought it was great that they played UMHB and Linfield this year and hope they are able to get back to something that strong instead of messing around with Menlo.

UR is feared far and wide from Banning to Perris to metropolitan Corona and everywhere in between. Haskell Indian Nations vowed to never set foot in Redlands again.
