I honestly believe the SCIAC will be a 3-way tie for first with Redlands, Cal Lu and Chapman all beating each other (in some form).  The team I see deciding the whole thing will be Oxy and their wins, which will knock someone out of it.  I don't think Oxy will win the conference but they are getting better.

One that I do know is that the NWC is so far ahead of the SCIAC it's not even funny.
Only at the top...the NWC has plenty of teams that are down this year that's for sure.

Yup. Can't remember the last time Willamette looked this inept, especially in non-conference play (mostly because the fly gave people fits). PLU is young and going to take their lumps. But Pacific is probably still better than most of if not the entire SCIAC and Whitworth sure is. After the top 2-3, the NWC has its fair share of mediocrity.

I don't know if beating PLU and Willamette by a few points is enough to make you the "favorite" in and of itself. But the way the rest of the traditional powers have played (if you call what Redlands is doing as 'playing') then I think you got to go with the SoLutes to win the conference and take the title of Linfield's sacrificial lamb

Linfield is much better than UR, no doubt, but UR was missing all conference RB, MLB, DE, and WR, starting center, starting guard, starting tackle, back up tackle, back up to the back up tackle, another starting WR, Starting kick off returner, . Two of those all conference players are done for the year. UR traveled 42 Frosh and Sophs (only 18 upper classmen on trip) ...So they were puppies. Maybe they are just too young upfront on the O line and in the defensive backfield.  Might be a year away from contending, UR needs to mature quickly. If the O line can just block decently, it is a different UR team. Even the teams of the 90's could not defend that LF team with the short fields the defense faced. I think the offense or special teams gave the UR defense 12 short fields to defend.

CLU wins, based on scores are not as impressive as one would think. CLU has issues too. Chapman O line had injuries against Whitworth and missing Gibbons, but WW look fast and tough. Chapman too has some holes to fill up front.

Oxy can move the ball but defensive line has been horrible the last few years.

The League, oops conference is down, Go to LF and tell me if any administration in the NWC or SCIAC supports football like LF does, the answer is no, Great Coach, Great Support. The rest of the teams in the NW cycle just like SCIAC teams. The SCIAC will be lucky to win one play off game in the next 5 year. SCIAC presidents are not committed.

Less than two more years of Gavin.

Honest question--how many of those guys were out against George Fox?
Go Cats!

What a football memory M Cat!

The SCIAC and DIII world must know LINFIELD is motivated by fear. Fear of being the Coach/Team/Player who loses THE STREAK.

Actually, Pacific spends more money on football and recruiting than any other team in the NWC.

100% agree....teams 4-7 in the NWC are all over the place and not in a good way.   Both conferences are both down overall this year, IMO.

Yeah they do! Their coaches are on the road a lot especially in CA!

Missing, WR (45 receptions last year) , OG,OT,Center,Mike backer (all conf) went down in first for season, back up Mike went down in second, DE (all conf), and I think of the SS. FS was pulled and popped shoulder. Still the reason we lost is poor clock management by the coaching staff, GF should have never got the ball back, plus for some reason they benched the two time all conference QB until the second half. GF played a heck of game so hats off to them.

Pacific is on the rise for sure, but their facility is not LF and I doubt their coaches get paid more than LF. Pacific has had some pretty good turnover on their staff, unlike LF over the years.

This is true...no matter if they put a new roof or scoreboard in that place, it's still a soccer stadium/field at its core and why the sight lines from the grandstand make it feel like you're a mile away.  That and the backdrop isn't very nice either.

Well, I know that former long term Redlands President Dr. Appleton was a huge supporter of Redlands football and university athletics. He was a constant at our practices and at games, interesting that the program has been declining since he retired.

olddog

I agree RFB, different level of support for the team. Appleton still comes around but as a fan. Remember when Redlands built their lockers and fitness center, along with practice field. Even then there were plans to expand, second story, coaches offices meeting rooms etc... They were a leader in facilities at that time, now the money has gone other directions. Other schools have passed them. Heck their facilities rivaled most D2 and 1AA schools 15 years ago. Yes they did put in a sports turf practice field but that was more school use issue over football or any other sport. I just heard the men locker room is finally getting AC and all the shower now work.

Now the school is on a diversity kick at the expense of all programs, and the school has had it easy in terms of generating record enrollment numbers due to the crisis in our State and UC system. Heck they backed off their numbers this year due to housing shortage.

If LINFIELD starts having scheduling problems with the SCIAC could you guys give the number of Saboba Sovereign Nation and Casino so we can contact that Haskell school?
