Olddawg I'm totally with you on the administrative issues. The new admin doesn't prioritize athletics at all which is sad given the proportion of male student athletes within the student body. And drawing back to the uniforms, it wouldn't be an issue if we had simple, clean Unis similar to Linfield. The font on the numbers is hideous and Russell uniforms are unattractive because of the cut. They make players look add when compared to Under Armor an Nike fits. In the grand scheme of things it shouldn't matter much but it is the first thing a recruit sees when looking at a program and it makes a poor first impression.

My biggest worry with the team currently is the lack of aggression in the trenches. I know they are young but if none of them play with any real aggression I can't see them improving. I know Lucore is an excellent OLine coach but if there's no fire I don't see the struggles stopping.

Young Dawg, I know they have a new equipment guy now that Harry retired, so I expect him to update things a bit. I agree the dark uniforms are out of date and could need a refresh.

I still love the Dawgs and will always be a fan, make it to as many games as possible. I really enjoy a d3 game. I am sure I am not the dawg fan frustrated.

Last Week,

Looks like La Verne is going to make the trip up to Linfield. They will move the ball a little better than UR but its not going to be a game. Congrats to the Leos, it has been a while. How La Verne shut down Chapman in the second half is hard to understand. I will take a peek this week.

Poets and the Pups, wow. The only thing I can say positive about the Poets is they played clean football. They controlled their frustrations better than this old guy would. Man! the radio guys said they had 75 in camp and down to 51 dressed. They only had 6 Offensive linemen available. Talent wise this team was leaner than the past. It was a couple years ago a couple guys had pro days. I don't get it there is so much talent up around the school, good high school teams, good JC teams. It only takes a 2.5 GPA to get in, one would think they could land a half dozen studs.

The Regals and Stags. I watched some of that ball game. The Stags came out in the second half and just put it to the Regals. Complete domination, no sugar coat excuses. The Regals are just too one dimensional, predictable running game and qb does not like to throw on the move. The Regals looked tired on defense, got beat off the ball a lot. CMS ran that zone read stretch play where two guard pull all night and they got to the Regal backers, game over. Funny today linebackers do not understand how to attack pulling guards versus back in my day. Once a backer sits back and linemen get into them three yards deep, your done, game over.

Should be a fun game at Chapman, despite the records the Pups want a taste of revenge, both teams will be pumped.

Absolute dumpster fire at Cal Lu.  They were dominated in every phase of the game and I can't imagine what Do and Jackson are going to run for in the next 2 games.  Just bad all around.  Nice work by CMS as they really showed they are a legit contender in the SCIAC.

Fear the Poet

what the hell happened? LaVerne and CMS battling it out? This isn't your momma's SCIAC this year..except for my Poets :(

Poet,

I can tell you what happen in a nutshell.

UR, was marginal at best this year playing a ton of younger guys who have not started. Injury bug hit them early, and the scales are tipped slightly. Some games they started third stringers. If the injury bug does not hit UR, they squeak past LV and CMS. UR returns about 18 guys who have started over five game this season. Other than loosing their QB, good RB and senior offensive guard, the entire team is back if the best defensive player at FS who has missed LV and CMS game, they squeak past them due to horrible DB tackling. If he plays maybe we win both. He is a maybe on coming back for his last year. However with that said above they are only a top 40 team next year unless a miracle shows up in the O line and at QB.

La Verne has a ton of seniors, and they happen to be their best players. They have gotten enough out of their O line and D line to win this year given the conference is down. Coaches have done a good job this season.

CMS returned 21 out of 22 starters, and some of those kids can really play. They are doing a real good job at CMS, but lack depth. So this could be their best finish in a long time.

Whittier, I don't know what Jellerson did ?but they have not been the same since the kids he brought in.

Oxy is Oxy, will get some players but tough academics hinder depth.

Pomona, some day everyone in the conference will be working for those guys.

Cal Lu, I think they have always been tilted toward being good via a few transfers, the ones they have gotten recently have not been as good as the past or quit on Coach Mac. Up front on the O line they have not been as good as in the past, and have not had the stud DT and corners as in the past.

Chapman, they lost some key seniors, lack of depth similar to Oxy's reasons showing up. The replacement linemen/TE up front are not the quality as last year and their QB proved to be the glue. Chapman had a lot of season starters back like LV this year.

So you get a good group of seniors at LV, they get hot and confident...wella they pull off the league championship. Good for them it is nice to see teams rise up, keeps it fun.

Fear the Poet

I was certainly not a fan of Jellerson, but kind of hard to blame him since my beloved Poets have been down for a very, very long time. I think they have only won more than three games a couple times in the last 15 or so years. I sure hope they can find a way to turn the program around. There are some good people working hard behind the scenes over there.

"Dumpster fire" sounds so much better than "monkey stomp".  Plus karma for that.

SCIAC This week.

Puppies/Panthers at CU. Despite both teams' seasons, this will be a spirited game. A lot of smack was talked by Chapman last year, not to say the pups did not the year before. This game is turning into just as much as a rival game as the Regals. Coach Mac has it right, can the Pups stop the panthers running game, more direct will UR tackle? UR will have to throw the ball to win. On paper I have the Panthers by 3 kit kat bars, but of course my heart is the my Pups. I know the Pups do not want a sub 500 season.

Leos/Hens. This game should not be close. The Hens have the second worse defense in the league and can not stop run. The Leos have the second best run game in the league so they should take Hens by 21 eggs. Leos are a senior laden team, should not let down.

Regals/Wine Drinkers....This game is up in the air, can the Regals offense keep up with Oxy, Can the Regals stop run...Based on last week, the answer is no, so I have the Wine Drinkers breaking out the sparkling version, Tigers by 6 sips.

Stags/Poets. I have never seen a SCIAC team in such shambles at the Scribes, I have been fan of this conference for almost 20 years...They have ran out of pen and paper for sure. Stags by 35 horseshoes.

Congrats to ULV and that coaching staff for their first playoff birth since '94. I think we all know, and they all know that challenge ahead in the postseason, but it's been a fun ride, anything else is gravy.

Chapman 96

Jellerson? He was forced out because Stratton and Clark told Coleman (the ad) that Jellerson called Coleman's wife a fat f##king pig..which was untrue. But instead of confronting
Jellerson, he launched an "internal" investagation, without Jellerson's knowledge and only spoke to two disgruntled coaches..Statton and Clark (two coaches Jellerson wanted to get rid of) and a couple of disgruntled players..and that's how Coleman and why he fired Jellerson..Whittier always kept it hush hush because Coleman didn't want his wife embarrassed. And your right old dawg Jellerson did bring in darn good players and left Stratton with 90 plus players.
Now the last 2 or 3 years an average of 50? Fear the Poet?
2012 4-5
2013 1-8
2014 2-7
2015 0-8 and one of the worst football teams in the entire country! Looks like Coleman and Strattons chickens came home to roost!

Chapman96, sad story all the way around. So that's why the recruiting coordinator balled too.

The puppies need to be put back in their pens. Turnovers (5) and four crucial unsportsmanlike penalties, left this  old guy embarrassed. Worse UR performance I have seen in years. Ugly boys, quit putting yourself above the team. Coach Maynard will need some sole searching on what type of characters he wants in his program.

I could be mistaken, but I do not believe Coach Maynard has ever had a 3-6 season at Redlands. So hey!! you underperforming, mediocre puppies, listen up. How about you not suck on Saturday and get a win to avoid being the worst Redlands team in the Maynard era. There are no more participation trophies, or bubble wrap to protect you, time to be men and not little boys playing dress up with football pads.
