Maybe they consider hiring a young, energetic coach looking to build his resume.

I like this idea a lot. The question is where do we find this guy? I love Whittier College and hope the program can be rebuilt.

As a start, the Larry Kehres coaching 'tree' is quite extensive and still growing.  Some of his 'proteges' are still coaching high school - might want to investigate that 'pedigree'. ;)

Are there any long-time assistants in the SCIAC that could make the leap?  Knowing and understanding the SCIAC could be a pretty solid advantage for that coach.

Got my trip booked for Minneapolis. As I said earlier just going to enjoy the ride as long as it lasts.

While at the game, don't be too surprised to see other MIAC clothing being sported by fans as they come to watch the play-offs. The MIAC got an at-large bid as well, so some folks will be up in Collegeville watching the Dubuque Spartans take on the St. John's Johnnies. It's really too bad that the NCAA doesn't stagger games that are so close geographically so that folks could get to both games.

Good luck to the Leopards.

That would be the idea.  My opinion is that the risk of a young guy coming in a making a name for himself then going to bigger an better things, means three things:  1) He had success enough to justify the moving on (Good for the program cuz that means wins); 2) You have to search yet again (not so good for the admin); 3) You can sell the school - to the next coach -  that success here leads to bigger/better things and attract yet another hotshot (good for the AD as he gets a rep as a talent finder)

Starts with the Admin, ends with the Admin. Their facilities are so so. They don't even have a locker room for the home team to go into at halftime or before the game. The impression that makes on a high school kid is not so great. The school really needs an overhaul. I know some parts have started but go to Chapman, CLU, UR ....the impression is different. Now La Verne wantd to make a push in athletics and facilities. Some items have already started in baseball and additional FB coach.

Despite the some of the facilities there are some upsides is the school is fairly easy to get into, aid is better than Chapman and UR, great recruiting area within 20 miles,  and jc transfer classes transfer better.

Fair enough but for the here and now, the facilities are what they are.  No coincidence that better facilities make recruiting easier.  If I were a young coach certainly that would be an attraction too...but if I were a young coach looking to make my first mark, I would not pass up on a place where I could make my mark simply by winning more than I lose.  Humble surroundings make the resume look all that much better.  "I did all this with only this, imagine what I could do with so much more..."  Being an incubator for young coaching talent isn't that bad a rep.

That's the model that Redlands used when Mike Maynard was hired in 1988. He was a young, successful defensive coordinator with CMS at the time. Redlands was very down at the time of his hire, he turned the program around is less than three years.

RFB,

There was a time when UR facilities were some of the better small college facilities in terms of football but overall other teams in the SCIAC have passed them up.

D3 football programs that are pulling away from others have some common themes, besides the school issues of, aid, majors, etc

1) four or five full time coaches, not three
2) Separate lockers, it will be needed more than ever if spring football goes full gear
3) Dedicated meeting rooms/player lounge
4) Separate Weight Room
5) Dedicated practice fields

Lastly I agree on a new head coach at Whittier, find the best assistants who know league and make a run at those guys.

How about Dale Widoff ? He is back in town just down the road at Chapman....if the shoe fits...just saying.

I wouldn't count on Full Padded Spring football any time in the near future. My understanding is there's a real resistance to it within the league.

Whittier Should drop the program.  Their admin has no clue what it takes to support a successful FB team. Plus, I don't think that Whittier has the finances to do it.
Also, a new coach? A young coach? I think WC has been there done that.  You want a Kheres protégé?  Does the name BJ Hammer ring a bell.  WC had a young coach looking to build his resume.  He came from a reputable program.  NOW- he works for Raeburn (who went to Mount Union and is the nephew of Kheres).  I am 99% sure that Hammer, for the past 5 years has coached one of the top 5 defenses in the country and was nominated for coordinator of the year in 2014.  AND they fired him!!!! LOL, SMH@ Rob Coleman.  I think Coleman actually did Hammer a favor.
IMO- The Whittier admin needs to get their act together if they want to save FB or just bail on it.

ChicagoTommie

I hope you guys enjoy game up in ST Paul...The Tommies are ready for the Leopards! The game is going to be a cold one for the Leopards in the 20's at game time BRRRR ;D.  The Tommies will not be affected by the weather this is still fall for them.  What did you guys do to the NCAA that made you guys fly half way around the country to play the Tommies in the first round? I don't understand ???  I hope your boys now how to bundle up?

Due to location, it was either Linfield, Some WIAC or MIAC School, or Texas Team. However, the way the brackets shaped out, they had to go somewhere. Maybe the Leopards could have went to St. Johns and Dubuque to St. Thomas.
