Whittier could turn it around, just need Admin true support, better president, new AD....The school is not managed very well in other arena's too. So I am not surprised about athletics. How can one attract any kid when your dorms are 50 years old and never been remodeled, they just built a semi decent cafeteria, the business builder looks like it did 50 years ago....Very poor planning the last 25 years.

RFB,

There was a time when UR facilities were some of the better small college facilities in terms of football but overall other teams in the SCIAC have passed them up.

D3 football programs that are pulling away from others have some common themes, besides the school issues of, aid, majors, etc

1) four or five full time coaches, not three
2) Separate lockers, it will be needed more than ever if spring football goes full gear
3) Dedicated meeting rooms/player lounge
4) Separate Weight Room
5) Dedicated practice fields

Lastly I agree on a new head coach at Whittier, find the best assistants who know league and make a run at those guys.

Facilities are important, but your list will not happen, everything gets shared at the DIII level.

RFB, venture to Mary Hardin Baylor, dedicated field house, weight room and three practice fields....in the SCIAC yes, but elsewhere not always the case.
MHB is so nice, if I received some great aid, I might take it over D2 and 1AA schools.

Football facilities in Texas is not a good comparable. There are probably junior high facilities better than some in the SCIAC.

Heck, there's a kindergarten in Dallas with a 30,000 seat football stadium!

Well, OK, I made that up, but there are some HS stadiums nicer than some D1 stadiums - football is religion down in those parts, as the designation of UMHB's stadium as the Cruthedral should make clear! ;D

I hate to say it, I was pulling for the Leo's, but the Tommies were just way better in every area, than the Leos. The Tommies d line got knock back of the Leo's O line the entire game, this was the turning point to me....LV best defense was being on O.. Loosing your QB would not have helped much. The third stringer showed some promise, or next year. LF beats the Tommies by 28. I think its LF year...
Tommies lack team speed, tailback was not fast, Spark Jackson would have loved those gaps. Tommies had trouble in the early part of the game defending spread Offense, made the adjustments and shut down LV.

Great season LV, congrats...

Just got back from Minneapolis. St. Thomas facilities are really nice. About as nice as any I've been to at this level.

Leo's played tough early. They lost their starting QB on their third play from scrimmage, and then had to become one dimensional on offense. They then lost their 2nd QB and had to play a freshman at QB who's hadn't taken a snap all year for 2 and 1/2 quarters. In the end it wouldn't have mattered but they probably would've moved the ball a little better and may have kept the score a bit closer. As it stands, with the Tommies knowing  La Verne was going to essentially run the ball every play the Leos still had over 200 yards on the ground. So that's a positive.

St. Thomas has a ton of size up front on their OLine, but they don't have a ton of speed at the skill positions and aren't overly athletic. To me St. Thomas is a very good team, but I don't think they match up well with the Linfield's of the world. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Sad to see this season come to an end but it was a lot of fun.

Leo, the first thing I noticed is how slow they were too, I think LF is a three touchdown favorite over the Tommies. The issue is exactly what RFB pointed out, the SCIAC has not depth upfront, I have seen many a freshman get playing time in this league when they would have to wait at Midwest schools until their junior year. The Leos got it done with band aids up front. It was apparent watching the feed, that the Tommies would eventually overwhelm the Leos. Nice run for the team, great experience for the kids, something the program can build on. I like your third string QB, he has promise. He can makes throws.

And don't get me wrong St. Thomas is a very good team, I just am not sure they can run with the truly elite teams at this level. I anticipate they'll beat St. Johns this week, and if they do, I am very keen to see how they play Linfield.

I can't say enough how great their facilities were. There's nothing like that in the SCIAC. Really nice set up. Fans there were great. Overall it was a lot of fun and a good experience for the kids.

I agree with you, I like what I saw from the freshman kid. Making your debut on the road in 20 degree weather against a top 5 team in the playoffs is a difficult way to start. He should be prepared for anything after that.

I am curious to take another look at the hit on our starting QB in the first. I didn't see it, but I heard it. I heard some rumbling that it looked like a targeting type play, but haven't looked yet. I'll get some feedback later.

Good luck to the Tommies, and thanks to their fans for being so receptive.

They definitely looked faster vs. St. John's.

The question is, was that because of St. Johns? I don't know, I haven't seen them play and this was the first I've seen of St. Thomas. I wonder if St. Johns will glean anything from this game, as La Verne did a nice job slowing the Tommies rushing attack to well below their season average? I am not sure how their first meeting played out, so maybe they already did figure that out?

Also Pat, I heard nothing but good things about you from the La Verne staff. Thanks for being so hospitable while they were out there.

TOMMIES were not at their best! They were looking ahead, very lethargic and usually not that slow...really they had already looked past you guys! No disrespect ;D

Mr.MIAC

So how would you folks compare the 2010 Wildcats with the team of today? Back then UST ended their season with a 24-17 win, but of course it was a tough game.

Let's us know on the targeting, would be a shame. It was tough to tell on my pc. The SCIAC conference really is not committed to sports compared to Tex and Midwest schools. Night and day, so when UR upset NCC is was huge, they too have great facilties,....Linfield is the nicest in the west.
