What about that part of the rule that includes the words "make florcible contact to the head"?  If the contact was incidental then no foul ... no flag.

This is an internet forum, facts do matter when presenting an argument, just cute lines and sayings...it obvious the guy laid off his head, hitting the ground caused the injury not contact to his upper body.

UR will now have four fulltime football coaches on staff. On 12-1 UR announced they are searching for a defensive assistant, who will also coach the d line. He will be full time, along with the HC, OC, and DC. It may not seem like a lot but that is huge, most of the SCIAC schools have four or five fulltime football coaches.

One area UR has been lacking is the off season, between full time staff on the road recruiting and strength coach. UR has had a new one each winter for the past four years. Getting back to the top of the league will occur on the off season.

Any one know how All SCIAC selections are made? I always thought All Conference teams were weighted toward teams based on conference finish. Doesn't seem to be the case here...

Its is my understanding coaches nominate players but cant vote on their own. Some many slots for each position and the other coaches vote. Let the chips fall.

Whittier has a new coach Mike Neale, DC at Albright. Grew up in San Diego area. Seems like a go getter, hope the Poets don't take the wind out of his sail, tough job...

Just got back from Minneapolis. St. Thomas facilities are really nice. About as nice as any I've been to at this level.

Leo's played tough early. They lost their starting QB on their third play from scrimmage, and then had to become one dimensional on offense. They then lost their 2nd QB and had to play a freshman at QB who's hadn't taken a snap all year for 2 and 1/2 quarters. In the end it wouldn't have mattered but they probably would've moved the ball a little better and may have kept the score a bit closer. As it stands, with the Tommies knowing  La Verne was going to essentially run the ball every play the Leos still had over 200 yards on the ground. So that's a positive.

St. Thomas has a ton of size up front on their OLine, but they don't have a ton of speed at the skill positions and aren't overly athletic. To me St. Thomas is a very good team, but I don't think they match up well with the Linfield's of the world. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Sad to see this season come to an end but it was a lot of fun.

I just remembered this argument from a month ago. Chuckled to myself.

I like it.  Look forward to seeing how much he re-develops his ties to San Diego County...lots of good high school football all over that area.  San Diego County teams went 4-2 in the prelim round of the CA State playoffs....and were 4-0 in the lower division games where D3-type kids can be found.

SoCal is tough to recruit - among the reasons - all the SCIAC teams are recruiting in the same area, plus the well developed JC football system offers a lost cost/high quality of play and a chance to re-enter the upper level recruiting process...but then he played at Grossmont JC so he knows the drill.  I like the thought process on this.

Best of luck to him.

I don't understand your point of you post? I would take LF to beat the Tommies in a rematch, Turnover and dropped balls in the first totally changed the game, LF does not do that often, the LF DC did a horrible job preparing to stop run, I doubt they make that same mistake again. If LF qb is healthy a different game. The Tommies are not fast or quick, that does not mean they can not win. Tommies caught LF on a day they decided to lay an egg. Good Luck Friday....if you control the ground game, great chance of winning.

My take on the hires, he sounds like he is ready and a good guy, but it sounds like the process did not generate much local interest within the league.

You're leaving out a pretty major component of the game: UST had 389 yards rushing and controlled the clock at a 2 to 1 margin, even with Sam Riddle at QB in the first half this would have been a major problem for Linfield's D. The point of the post was to illustrate that UST's perceived lack of speed and speculation that they couldn't "match up with the Linfields of the world" is not accurate. Also, I would ask both Riddle and Knecht if UST is slow before you delve too deep into that narrative. 8 TFLs, 3 forced fumbles, 5 PBUs and 3 picks. No stats on QB hits, but I would guess that was in the double digits.

And if you're talking on O, Gilliand, Waldvogel, Bradley and Fitzsimmons have plenty of speed. UST didn't throw the ball on Saturday because they didn't have to. Respect to Linfield, they beat UST before, and took us to 2OT a few years back, but they got worked on Saturday, Riddle or not, it would be the same outcome.

Coach Smith's comments also paint a different picture:
"We've lost games. It's the first time we've ever been beaten in the playoffs."

Fear the Poet

Im super excited for Coach Neale. Seems he will be a guy to focus on recruiting high school kids and develop something at Whittier.
