Watched the Trinity game and ULV game on the web. My take is SCIAC is still wide open. UR is better than last year but how much is TBD. Trinity won this game and deserved to win, but UR is the better football team. UR gave up three TDs due to errors/turnovers and 3 points due to fumble. Trinity could not run the ball on UR. However Trinity deserved to win, if you make four turnovers you should loose to a pretty good team. Can not get down 20-3 on the road. All these issues are fixable, UR just ran out of time in their comeback.

UR needs to put it to GF or it will be another long season. It will come down to how much the team works in the next two weeks to clean up these issues.

ULV looked first game sloppy to me, I think they really miss Sparks. Who would not ? Verdict not out, similar to UR.

Do not know the extent of dahlby's health issues yet I can say I miss the Chapman voice on this board.

I watched a quarter, and the team looked more athletic than last years squad. They were still very sloppy though, which is an annual first game tradition for Redlands.

RFB,

I agree with you on being sloppy. This is not a great team but better than last year, how much is TBD. Those errors can be cleaned up, hopefully. The defense really only gave up two good drives and the rest of the points were off turnovers etc. The defense looked like it was missing a few starters, I hope those kids make it back. I am optimistic on the defense, UR is very tuff to run on and most teams a la La Verne take it outside. The offense seems to have a deeper playbook than in the past which I was glad to see. The key to UR having any success in conference will come down to two basic issues. Can UR figure out a way to run the ball, and that will not happen until they block linebackers and learning to play with few mistakes. The mistake issue may seem obvious, but UR is not that good and can not afford to make many, it cost them the TU game and will cost them against every opponent except Whittier and PP. The league is so wide open this year.  So many factors, including who is healthy for what game.

I too, watched both ULV and some of UR/ Trinity.
ULV had its chance, that missed PAT seemed to deflate the momentum as did the ensuing scoring drive by PS.
Way too many mistakes for ULV. Look for that to be cleaned by next week or Whitworth will put a wax job on the Leos.

UR made a nice comeback vs Trinity, just not enough at the end. The defense looks better than I thought it would.
UR should blow out GF next week.

Occidental...why would you charge for football games on the net?
Worse yet, why would you charge 95 cents more than LINFIELD does?

I'll never be able to watch a game all season.
You play 2 miles away from me at Chapman on November 12th but at 1:00 pm.  No way am I passing up LINFIELD-PLU for that.
So there!

Because the AD is dumb?   $12.95?
I live in Dallas.  I fall asleep before any of the SCIAC night games are over.
The schools don't even charge  that much to see them in person.'

Gray Fox i'm in your neck of the woods and yeah, I crash before the fourth quarter on many games unless the game is interesting. I find I can stay awake for Chapman and Redlands games, the rest.. Ehhh...Tried to watch the Pomona game but the play by, well just too kiddish for me, I don't mind humor but just plain out inane banter about nothing, like two 5th graders got ahold of a mic, just a turn off.

And I won't pay to watch games unless it's worth watching (Linfield) In my mind it's a big mistake because it keeps interested people out, and possibly those interested in attending and playing from watching. I can see the tops in the polls and not pay for it, why would I pay to watch a...well... I think you get it.

Well, it's CMS at W&L week. A match up I wouldn't have ever expected to see. For a team that was expected to contend in conference, W&L has not been particularly sharp. The defense got over-run at Johns Hopkins, understandable to an extent, but the offense couldn't get off the ground at Sewanee, which was incomprehensible.

This will be W&L's first home game, and generally they are much better at home. For anyone travelling to Lexington I live too far away to make the game, but I can offer some advice on where to stay and eat. Also there are a few things to do and see both on campus, close by, and then of course all the history in the Virginia/MD/Southern PA/D.C. stretch within 3 or 4 hours of Lexington. If you are flying in, take the extra time if you have it and drive the Blue Ridge Parkway up to school instead of the interstate. It'll take a lot longer, but it's one of the most scenic roads in the East. The best sections, sadly, are farther south, but you won't be disappointed by the stretch closest to Roanoke up to Lexington.

I hope the team and any travelling fans arrive safely. Lexington is a great little college town in the middle of the Shenandoah Valley. It's not easy to get to, but very picturesque once you arrive. W&L is a beautiful school, and the facilities for the team and the game should be more than up to scratch.

If you are watching online, W&L's feed is usually good. The announcers are also good, not too much on the homer side, and knowledgeable.

Watched a few SCIAC Games this weekend

CMS, the game was closer than the score. WR corps need to improve. Let's see this week when they step it up.

Pomona, improved over last year. O line is bigger, defense more aggressive. They will be in many games this year.

Cal Lu, I though from the middle of the second quarter they were the better team against PLU, I can't believe Coach Mac did not try a fg, even though his kicker had missed a couple chip shots earlier. They will improve as the season goes on.

Chapman, did not watch game. Score was not surprise.

Whittier, did not watch, what the heck ? boat raced badly

UR, idle
LV, idle

Oxy, did not watch, typical shoot out....Oxy never has had a d line in the half dozen years.

Nice travelogue jknezek. Almost made me want to look at my photos I took in the Shenandoah Valley last April.

Chapman can win the SCIAC and travel back to Mac if they practice like it's a game. They did too many mental errors against LINFIELD (that 100 yard in penalties, drive killing moves, etc.) They were a worthy opponent.

I'm ashamed to say I've been back to campus all of once in the 15+ years since graduation. Part of living 10 hours away by car. But I am going to get there again this fall, hopefully for the 10th game of the season (despite our slow start, I'm not willing to call it the "last" game of the season).

It is quite a beautiful area of the country and I'm happy to talk up the school!
