Oxy admin changed emphasis on all athletics, all sports took a hit in my opinion. I used to like Oxy, but they have become so liberal and disrespectful to those that died for our country, Well on their liberal way to becoming  the Poets of Eagle Rock.

Only a few more months until Redlands annual win over Cal WHOtheran. Looking forward to it!

Always been a baseball school and have spent a majority of the past 25 years kicking the crap out of the SCIAC.

Hi everyone, I am new to the board and I made an account because i noticed a significant lack in Chapman Football info. I played for Chapman about a decade ago and still live in the OC. I am extremely proud of the program it has become and i am looking forward to watching the continued success.
One thing many people probably don't consider is that Chapman is expanding very quickly. Correct me if i am wrong but Chapman has the largest undergraduate enrollment of any SCIAC school.
Chapman is also building its new Science building which, if you haven't seen it, looks very impressive. The best part is that Chapman will no longer have the beat up Away side bleachers in the parking lot. There will be a full other half of the stadium incorporated into the side of the new Science building. If i was a high school kid and didn't have a route to D1 football, seeing Chapman's stadium and campus would be very impressive.
So couple an expanding student body with new facilities. This should be the #1 D3 school in SoCal. I say "should be" because it still isn't. Outside of that 2015 team, which just used pure athletes to beat up the SCIAC and give Linfield a run for their money, they may need to expand their recruiting footprint and implement a slightly more diverse scheme to get to the next level. Having said that I have the up-most respect for Coach Bob Owens and believe he is a class act.
Chapman should be very competitive this year, i know they have some significant pieces returning and young players who have now developed. Depth at OLine and DLine will likely determine the season.

Good luck to the rest of the SCIAC this year I am hoping for a competitive year and if at all possible a home playoff game.

You have just listed all of the reasons why Chpaman had such a hard time getting into the SCIAC.  They don't really fit other than geography.
BTW +k for being a new poster.

OCguy...+1 from me too.  I do not recollect any Chapman posters except for dahlby (RIP). Please stick around and stick up for those Undie Run Folks.

Hey! I'm an OCguy too! who went to LINFIELD. Imagine how happy I am Chapman stepped up to schedule LINFIELD again.

BTW...Are you not referring to that 2014 21-14 "run for the money?" LINFIELD had to replace their quarterback. The 2 upperclassman were given a chance to run the team and then Sam Riddle was put in. Everyone and their dog knew he was going to be the starter. He scored 21 straight points and eventually became D3.com POY last season.
The ensuing 55-24 rematch and the 52-14 are more indicative of what Coach Owens is trying to overcome - the whole SCIAC actually.
But - hey! - it's a new season, isn't it?

OCguy

You are correct *2014. I remember that Chapman has had to go up and play at Linfield with half their roster the past 3 times. While i am not saying it makes a big difference in the overall outcome i will say that traveling with 50 guys to play a team talented team with 120 at their own house is no small task. We will see what, if anything, can be done to slow down those cats this year.

I will be sticking around to both annoy and inform you guys about Chapman when there is something to update. Thanks for the Karma and warm wishes.

Hey OCGUY welcome to the boards. I'm a transplanted OC native to Texas and a UMHB fan, but I usually end my D3 football Saturdays watching the Chapman stream whenever I can, sometimes we have a good ol' BBQ and grill and a few friends watching and just enjoying the games on the big screen. Chapman and Redlands are my faves in the SCIAC and we always have a great time catching the games.
SCIAC is an interesting conference and entertaining to watch so welcome aboard the forums.

OC guy, welcome to the board. I regret to inform you made a naïve rookie mistake. You never ever say something positive about the SCIAC and refer to Linfield Cats. The Cats are the best program on the west coast, best stadium, best videos, best wine etc. If you remotely make reference to a SCIAC school playing better against a common opponent it would equate to you will setting the Oregon wine country vineyards on fire. Hopefully the Cats cut you some slack since you are new to the board. What happen to me was I made the statement that UR played the National Champs MHB tougher than Linfield did in the playoffs and you would have thought I committed a D3 board treason. It was awesome to hear the responses. They could not help themselves...Cats have some very quick witted posters, it was great.

Chapman should dominate the SCIAC based on what you have said, but I think what holds them back is admission standards. The SCIAC schools in general have higher admission standards then a certain schools in the NW, which very much hinders some athletes coming in, see how good Puget Sound has been in the NWC. I think the cost, aid given to white students, and admission standards make it a tough formula to dominate the conference, despite being a wealthy and the largest school in the SCIAC. Outside of football Chapman really makes sense joining the D2 Far West conference, ala Biola, Conordia, UCSD, and Cal Baptist (supposed to go D1). I have heard rumor at one time Chapman was interested in going D1 eventually ala USD...which long term is not impossible. The thought was when the school reaches 10k in undergrad it would make sense, too big to play small school divisions.

Redlands will stay on top as long as Coach Maynard is running the show. Coach Owens has underperformed in my opinion - no excuses not to have a juggernaut with all the advantages Chapman has in location.

I agree, Chapman does a poor job recruiting in their own backyard.

There is no small school division. Just a non-scholarship division.
