Oxy Football is in the middle of a dark dark part of their history. This is an unfathomable and unrecoverable mess up and the blame needs to fall squarely on the AD. I am not an alumni to Oxy but if i was i would be placing a call into the athletic department and telling them how embarrassing it is to be an alumni to a program that can not even field a team much less be competitive. I never like to hope someone loses their job, but for the sake of the kids in the program and the SCIAC as a whole, this woman needs to get the heck out yesterday.

I wonder if the parents are still going to meet and have their wine ?

How do you recruit next year ? There has to be more to the story....player revolt ? Oxy folks have to know ...

Coach quits before camp, now do not have enough players even though 49 listed,  I call BS, I have seen Pomona show up with numbers in their 30's...

Oxy forfeits their game against Pacific this weekend.

The Oxy AD should resign.  This is 100% on her head.  What a freaking joke.

Agreed. Better option would be firing her.

In seeing Pacific's HC tweet on this, I think this came at a total surprise to them as well.  I could be wrong and there might have been communication between the programs during the week, but if not, wow.

Pacific would be loading up buses in a couple of hours to head down to LA and not to mention parents that spent money on tix, hotel, transportation, etc.

Occidental College should be ashamed.

This really hurts the SCIAC and puts Pacific in a really bad spot. No to only do they lose a game off their schedule, but the financial loss could be significant. If that later is the case, Occidental better open their checkbook and reimburse Pacific.

Another question....does Oxy pay Pacific for all of the expenses that are now going to be wasted?

They should, it's the right thing to do.

By popular demand I have returned. In truth Gray Fox begged and begged me to return, and he was becoming most irksome, so I relented. I don't know why I am here, since Oxy football has apparently reached its nadir.

What the hell is going on at Oxy?
I count 49 players on the roster, including 21 freshmen. Perhaps one of you who played can please explain how, with attrition by injury or otherwise, a team can make it through a 9-game season with only 49 players.

Make that a 1-game season.

From the AD's statement:

"Since last week's game against the University of Puget Sound, the size of the team roster has diminished to the point that we cannot effectively field a team this weekend."

According to the roster, before the UPS game there were 49 players. I'm speculating, but it's not making too much of a leap to surmise what happened after the Tigers were smoked 61-6.

Yet another proud moment for Oxy under the leadership of Jonathan Veitch.

Rather than surmise, we did some reporting:

Really appreciate the information.  I would love to find out exactly why the coach "retired" when he did

Isn't some of this dependent on the positions those players play? I mean, their roster only listed what, 7 offensive linemen. If the subsequent attrition and injuries hit the offensive line hard, then you simply might not have five guys you can play there...which then puts your QB and RBs at injury risk too.
