The Oxy AD is just about to end the two biggest rivalry games in the next two weeks.
The Pomona game is the oldest D3 rivalry on the west coast.

Reverse.

Redlands favored to win the SCIAC.
Chapman puts up 618 on them.
There appears to be no homecoming Oxy game, just a two week time to beat each other up in practice.
The solutes found the best kicker in school is female.

The SCIAC CIRCUS has come to town.

Speaking of the SCIAC circus, here's Adam Turer's column about Oxy from D3football.com:

Occidental not giving up yet

I have taken the liberty of correcting one item in the article:

QuoteHere's what to watch for on D3football.com this week.

Am I the only one that feels like Oxy really should just bag it for the rest of the year?  The article stating there are only 32 healthy players right now and I find it hard to believe there will be enough in the coming weeks.  I realize that would suck for the entire SCIAC but there is nothing worse than canceling a game on a Friday morning.

QuoteThe short-term depth problems arose when Doug Semones retired as head coach in late July. Cushman was named as his replacement less than a week before camp started. The coaching uncertainty led a handful of players, including a few expected returning starters, to quit.

"That was completely unexpected, getting the e-mail that Coach Doug decided to retire three weeks before my senior year started," said senior captain Chris Garcia. "Honestly, it was heartbreaking. Once Doug quit, people saw that as a way to get out. They just didn't see the benefit of being in Oxy football anymore."

No, they shouldn't. Find your best 11 and play. The rest of the SCIAC will appreciate it, and I'm sure they will be facing mostly 2nd through 4th opposing teams depth charts.

Fair enough.  I guess I just look at it from a safety perspective, and that does not make me the snowflake.  Seeing them try to get kid back on the team scares me with the idea that someone could get seriously injured due to lack of prep to play in a game.  On the other hand, you could be the most prepared person on the field and get hurt just as easy.  I guess there really are no winners in this.

I was calling them snowflakes for quitting the team when the coach retired and not giving the new guy a chance.
But they probably know that football is not getting the support it needs.

Idea!
Search Oxy campus for female who's willing to suit up and attempt PATs (should they ever occur).
Bingo!
Full football program support from the AD.

I agree 100%.  Something I found really "different" is that they called the head coach by his first name.  In my 38 years on this earth, I have never called one of my coaches, past or present/ by their first name.  There has to be more to the story on why he "retired" so close to the start of the season.

Here is the issue I see, you now have one game counted as cancelled in conference, why should other teams take the expense to play and the chance of players possibly getting injured just to fulfill Oxy, it seems that school broke the faith with the conference regardless of the situation you don't just "oh well, lets just cancel things" when league is now in play, they would have been better off calling the season after the Pacific fiasco and that way the conference could adjust and Oxy's program can spend the time developing for the 2018 season.
So now, if Oxy does field a small roster and plays the game, does the game even count? because La Verne got a pass, why shouldn't the rest.
It's just sad all around, I could care less for the school it's the athletes, the conference and the Alimni I feel bad for, it seems the AD and President could care less.

Couple years back, a D3 school around here (back East) pulled that in women's soccer. Ran out of bodies, couldn't finish the league schedule, etc. The conference ruled that the games they had already played didn't count in the conference standings, and they were suspended from league play the following year (which was 2016). Now they're back with a full roster.

Anyway, that's an idea for the SCIAC to chew on.

Minnesota-Morris found out they needed a head coach later than Oxy did...they are managing.  You don't quit because you will very likely lose.

The Replacements is one of my favorite terrible movies of all time. The cheerleader he hooks up with, definitely top 5 on my list.
