Double days have been eliminated and D3 schools now have to give players a day off in camp. So UR used to get in 25+ practices before the first game, now it we be closer to 17 or 18.

The NCAA did not allow D3 to move up the reporting date due to kids might be on internships etc..voting next year to be able to get more practices in.

D1,D2...are reporting this week, most D3 its 9th or 10th...I believe...Times are changing, it will be even tougher for a young person to play early.

Think how bad 2 or 3 practices a week for two weeks felt.  1 month of practices once a day is mental torture.  Beating up on your own team is not fun!  Bring back the local JC scrimmages!  That is where the men are made!

Chapman scrimmaged against a JC last year in the pre-season and i know it helped the team, especially with their physicality. I 100% believe that having someone punch you in the gut before starting the regular season. It means you won't be shell shocked when the first game rolls around and you get hit again.

That's how it was when I played. Two weeks straight of double days in the heat, followed by a jamboree against local Junior Colleges. You're exactly right though - beating up your own team gets old, and getting to bang against the JC's was intense and got heated real quick.

Chapman scrimmaged Golden West. The GW kids told me they whipped up on Chapman. I was with about 8 of them and I told them my Chapman buddies said they did the same. It was great getting them fired up. I heard it got chippy.

RFB, Any idea why Maynard stopped it?  SB is just down the street. I will ask one of the assistants next time I talk to him.

I have no idea. Those scrimmages got really chippy, so would not be surprised if they were no longer productive to continue.

I think you are right, Maynard would not be a fan of Last Chance U..in any context

Part of scrimmaging a JC is finding one that runs O and D similar to your first opponent or one of the first 4 opponents.  You don't want to spend camp time on a D or O that you will never see.  A joint practice on the other hand could be a cool idea.

I couldn't remember which JC it was so thank you. I was at the scrimmage and it did get chippy. A Chapman kid didn't keep his head on a swivel on kickoff and got his bell rung. Started getting wild from there. The general consensus was that it was positive for both programs and a good step towards playing a tougher brand of football.

Recruit the kid who rung the bell.
That kid will probably play at a higher level. He was a stud. Unfortunately many of the kids that played for GW don't have the academic or financial ability to attend Chapman.

From what I've heard i believe they are scrimmaging GW again near the end of August. The OC for Chapman used to coach there and has strong ties to the program.

OC Guy, please post when, I would not might checking it out. I know some of the kids on GW.
