Whittier's playing surface is in its 2nd year and it's a nice surface.  The single side seating is what it is, but at least it's rather spacious.  It was nice for Graduation ceremonies this past Spring.   8-)

I am interested in seeing how the new leadership plays out for the long haul.  New President and new AD (Interim AD is from within) follow a couple of folks that truly supported the development of athletics and facilities at WC over the past several years.  Although it hasn't shown on the football field, several other sports have improved competitiveness and a couple are top flight D3 programs (M&W water polo).

Compared to other schools - one comes to mind that rhymes with sloxidental - It was nice to see the School's  top level Admins go to games, dress in the mascot uniform (Yes, she did), and wave the team flags during games in genuine supports.  They showed up.  President Hershberger is gem (it was sad to see her retire), and Rob Former AD Rob Coleman was a joy to meet and talk with during games.  Our teams may not have won as much as some of the others, but the athletes got as much support as any I've seen.  Pres and AD will be a hard act to follow at WC as far as sports are concerned.

6) President issues some wishy washy letter, we can have FB but you all need to pay for it...and better raise a boat load of money in six months.

AD out, replaced not by one of the current associate or assistant ADs, but by Rob Flot, Oxy's vice president for student affairs.

Before coming to Oxy, Flot has held all sorts of touchy-feely college administration jobs: Dean of students and director of intercultural relations at Lake Forest College, coordinator of multicultural recruitment, retention and learning at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, and a senior staff counselor, assistant director of student counseling and diversity training coordinator at Illinois State University. Nothing in his resume insofar as athletics.

This is a prelude to eliminating football for good. Oxy's team is doomed.

Basketball coach was interim AD for the last few months.  I am assuming that it was not a full time job that he wanted in the first place.

Sure looks that way, OB. Best case scenario he is an interim AD while a search takes place.

Purple your back, I was hoping someone knew that reference. You know I always felt if WC got their act together, they could farm the heck out the LB, SG, and Southeast areas....really good players to field a good squad. I knew Coach O back from the day...

Chapman has 11 OL on their roster.  Tough to get through camp with a limited number of OL.

Got to visit CLU Friday when my boys came out west for a game at a nearby high school.  The facilities were impressive.  That leaves me with Chapman, Whittier and LaVerne as the only schools I haven't toured/visited.  The coaches were very hospitable and I had a great time on campus.  Look forward to my next trip to Cali.
What high school game did your boys play/attend that Friday? Chandler vs Centennial?

Looks Like Chapman will scrimmage Golden West again this Friday. I can't make it, OC let us know how it goes.
Anyone hear if CLU will be scrimmaging a local JC this year? Whittier is a taking on Whittier Christian
They are playing Moorpark CC this Thursday or Saturday I've heard different between the 2 schools.

One would think that they'd even get a few overlooked North OC kids and few kids from Los Al, HH Wilson on the other side of Colima.

Whittier is so darn centrally located, one should think that they could do better.  I really can't speak to their pitch to kids since my kid didn't play football there...Mike Neal seems like a nice enough guy and his CV's seem fine to me.  He's got all sorts of things going for him.  Prior success at the D3 level.  A San Diego history.  He is young-ish and energetic in a Mike Reilly sort of way, does not come off as a gruff, a-hole ball coach.  I would think kids these days would be drawn to him.  It has not seem to come together yet.

The 2018 Roster is published and it looks like a 53 man (25 Freshman) roster.  That's a big let down.  Beating Oxy is not a lock.

It comes down to the "sell".  I understand that Whittier is a hard sell and I wonder why.   My former college roommate was an Associate HC there several years ago and he finally had to let go.

Purple,

UR has gone away from GA model, for the longest time they had just three full time coaches. Then went to four. Now I think 6, plus three part time guys.

I know the more successful staffs sit at four or five fulltime guys, what is WC ? My take is Whittier may have to be more a transfer school to increase talent in the short term.

It is clear to me Oxy is the least concerned about FB, then Whittier. Even PP added full time coaches, number are up too in camp.

Depth on the OL is always a problem. Avoiding the injury bug will be huge for making another SCIAC run.

That was Oxy's excuse last year for dropping football.

Pretty light numbers 11, two or three are not ready due to being frosh, then a couple injuries...look out
