from my point of view having had a bit of experience with college level sports dynamics, there has to be a product there. If you try to pitch to a talent who has not yet selected a school then you have better have a tangible to hang on to, trying to sell a rebuilding program that bailed after a few games, waddled around a bit and then said, Hi, show up to play football in fall is not a winning bet, but that is just what it looks like.
Even the lower end of the DIII branches still have a product to sell, because they guarantee (for the most part) that the program is solid, there is pride, even in a small, ranked 240th program that you still suit up and play, Oxy cannot even provide that assurance, and if the coach were in my living room pitching Oxy, I'd say sorry, but we have a local JC which would be a better fit, but I'll pencil you in just in case.
So recruiting goes out the window, lets be honest, so what is left? the organic player who was already attending or going to attend for other reasons be that family tradition, a program the school offers and such, and that pool is much smaller and in many cases not as talented.
So what does this program have to do, survive a 2018 season without that it's a titanic death rattle of a program. You can't draw in talent without a solid base, and if the staff are relying on "hi welcome to oxy, oh you play football too, well come on out" then it is a slow death. I hate to say this, but the only way I can see a massive shift, is staff changes. To bring in (Don't know if Oxy could do this) a staff that brings with it talent, then maybe, a really anemic maybe they could build a base and have a decent chance. I hope for these kids, I really do, I'd love to see a Cinderella story come out of this, but Cinderella was a fairy tale.

RFB, as get older you will find each generation gives less and less about any tradition...just themselves ..I digress sorry

Oxy, I can remember Pomona teams with those kind of numbers playing out the season. I remember one game against UR, I counted 33 players dressed out. They had more but held them out for the CMS game. In fact PP used to hold out their best players if they played CMS the following week.

I cant recall any other teams close to 50 , other than CMS a few years ago too.
Less than two more years of Gavin.

Wonder how many with eligibility that left the team are still on campus but chose no to rejoin the team. Chris Rom-Toribio a RB opted out and still runs track for Oxy but didn't return to football...oh by the way his senior year high school he led the state in rushing yards and scoring.

A few years ago I went to a game in the Dallas area between the two worst teams in the country, Principia and SWAG.
Principia had 25 players and SWAG had 100 big guys.
Principia held it close the first half using some talented players both ways.  But they were just worn down and ended up losing big.

The Acorn in 1000 Oaks wrote an article about Cal Lu.  Looks like they have a transfer RB from Humboldt State.  It will be interesting to see if Cal Lu is tough enough to run the ball, usually they are all fluff and try to pass all the time.

OxyBob let us know already, but today I got official word fro Oxy Admin.  I am attending a meeting for parents of athletes. Hoffman is gone as AD. They are conducting a search. The acting AD is the dean of student affairs. I was happy with the things he said (let's see if actions match).  He is a former college athlete and has two sons that are current athletes.

I seem to recall that CLU has had excellent RBs. Daniel Mosier was pretty good. Just ask Linfield.

The Linfield defense still wakes up at night with cold sweats thinking about Daniel Mosier.

Yeah, blowing a big lead can get under your skin.
It was even worse after reeling off 9 straight wins to give up a double overtime playoff loss at St.Thomas with a lost fumble at the goal line.

CLU actually has a couple of D1 rollbacks and an all conference D3 player who also was a roll back, ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE LU. The scrimmage with MPC Thursday differently looked promising for running and passing, but Defense for the LU was lights out for front 6, lots of pressure. Each squad had deep TD and LU had more than 3 long run for TD or at red zone.

They will be run-heavy this year.  The Humboldt State kid is one of many they are excited about in the backfield.

MLB transfer is a stud too.  This CLU team looked talented in person.
