FWIW re: Oxy

They anticipated around 25 freshmen and the roster shows just that.  They hope to add a similar sized class next year to push the program into the 60s to 70s.  It isn't getting fixed over night and they know that.

Also, Pomona-Pitzer had rosters of under 50 as recently as a few years ago.  In 2013 they have 46 in the team photo, in 2011 the Sagehens had less than 45. CMS has fielded teams between 45-55 not that long ago.  I'm not saying Oxy is going to be in a great spot but they can make this work and try to grow the program.  The reality is that they've lost LOTS of guys in the upper classes because of last season.  If they can keep 15-18 of the freshmen and bring in 25 more next year, that gives them 40-43 in the younger classes and they should have 15 or so juniors/seniors as well.  That would be around 55-60 players.  The just have to get there.

Oxy currently has around 15 freshmen (roster has had some attrition). Their total numbers are around 45.  However, unlike last year, they do have enough linemen to start the season.

Hey, if a Polar Bear can comment on this board, so can a Purple Raider!
Just want to wish Oxy the very best on the season. I did this many posts back but I'm doing it again. Sure hope you get some positives out of this year. Hate to see ANY program go away. Everyone working together should go a long way to re-establishing this program. Go Tigers! ☠🏈

More alums are willing to get involved now that the old AD is no longer there

Linfield's transfer from Oxy, Swanson, has done very well in the 'Cats fall camp. Kid will be a player for Linfield.

Maybe they will stop charging to watch the games on the internet.  That will expand the fan base.

I have a pretty good reason to comment on this topic.  I don't know if you know the reason but I'm pretty sure Oxy fans do.

I can't comment on the attrition.  But the twitter images shared recently were described as having about 20 players in each one and I counted close to fifty guys wearing helmets in one of the photos.  So I don't know...

Lighten up, guy. Just having fun with you. We are in the same conference, you know. I never questioned your right to post on this board. It was just kind of a lead in to my post.
I always read your posts on the OAC board because they are usually informative and entertaining. Save your anger for the UMU vs ONU game.
The purpose of my post was to show some support for the Oxy program not attack you!
Wow! Anyhow, Go Polar Bears! Go Raiders! Go Tigers(Oxy, not Wittenburg)! Go everybody! ☠🏈

I just typed two sentences.  Pretty light.  Certainly not a long paragraph like the guy asking me to chill out.   ;) ;) ;)

We need all posters.  Only the Liberty League posters don't want outsiders.

Just got confirmation of my sideline pass for the Whittier/Arizona Christian game.  I am interested in seeing a SCIAC team (even though many of you would argue they're not really a program to begin with while watching a kid I coached start at QB for ACU.

Oh, I definitely understand where you are coming from. However, I do believe that things are looking better. I have been one of the harshest critics of Oxy over the past few years. The school can never make amends for what they did to Dale Widolff.
Hoffman is gone and now is the time to get behind these coaches and players. It will be an uphill battle. The numbers are still low and some skills guys are going to see some time on both sides of the ball.
I spent some time over the past couple of days watching practice and talking to the coaches. They are working hard. They won't win much, but they are young and can only get better. Playing all nine games will make recruiting easier this year. Then, who knows. I'm at least going to a game this year, and will even give some money.  No matter how bad it might be this year, remember, Hoffman is gone

Good to hear. Too bad Oxy could not keep him in the program, but don't fault him for leaving.

smedindy

For a year or two, Oxy can dangle "immediate playing time" to almost all of the recruits, which could be a plus.
