Really great win tonight for Chapman. They handled some early adversity with the muffed hand off and deep pass and came back to dominate.
It was nice to see the freshman running backs carry the load as well. Coach Owens always has a great backfield. Looking forward to the rest of the season!

Good opening season win for Redlands. Always tough to win on the road, but a dominant first half set the tone. Few things to cleanup, but mostly positives all around.

Oxy played an exhibition game against CETYS University from Mexicali, Mexico. The Tigers are so desperate for a win that they touted the victory as their "home opener" and show their record as 1-0. Oxy even wrote this:

"The Tigers are now 2-0 all-time against their Mexican rival after winning in Mexico 20-0 last season."

Rival. Two exhibition wins and CETYS is Oxy's rival. So now Oxy's traditional rivals are:

Pomona
Whittier
Redlands
CETYS University of Mexicali, Mexico

Patético.

La Verne already lost to them in Mexicali 34-13.  Was it the water?

I am most impressed by Oxy's domination on time of possession.  Holding the ball for 51+ minutes and limiting the other team to 29 minutes is outstanding.

*Checks math...something doesn't seem right ???

Jack,
This must be a Caltech prank.  They know about time.

Okay, so the Mexican team is not exactly up to par with the level of talent in the SCIAC (or DIII overall).  However, the win is a big positive for Occidental and good for them!  "Stay the Course" and Onward! Good luck to them onward.

Maybe Earlham needs to consider this type of "Master Plan" for a return to football.  They need to talk with the Oxy people-seriously! (if they haven't already.)

I went to the GFU vs Redlands game in Newberg... I was impressed by Redlands. They have a very good QB and receiving corp. Their qb is a great passer and can run if needed. They seemed very quick and solid on defense. I'm not sure if they looked good because GFU needs work or??? I wouldn't be surprised if Redlands has a good year. We'll find out in a couple weeks.....  :o

Looks like it'll be a tight conference race between ULV, Whittier and Oxy.

I agree, UR has not played well at GF for some reason. QB played well, he is tough I hope he holds up running the ball all season when he has to bail out.
UR, OC needs to go a little deeper into his playbook. I feel we have seen those plays 100 times. LF will game plan the heck out of UR. Hopefully he has more to show.
The Good: Started quickly, O line blocked well, RB and WR are depth of the team and played well. The D front looked good, pressure was decent only bringing 4. MB played well a lot of upside. DBs continue to be my concern, inverts need to tackle better and we cant get beat deep.

Overall I was pleased and on the surface we have some upside, we will find out very soon. Maynard always says we have to get better every week.

Is PS that good or CMS over rated?  Watched a bit of the game. CMS struggled on offense in second half. PS look as good as I have seen them. More solid players across the board instead of three or four.

That does not bode well for the Leopards.  The Mexicali team was not good.

I think CMS had a couple of key injuries plus they are replacing pretty much the entire offensive line and some strong leadership on the defensive side of the ball that graduated. Given time to gel, which is hopefully what the non-conference games are for, I think they will come together. Still not sure they will end up in the top 3 by the end of the season, given all their youth.
