PC & Company posted D3football's projected playoff bracket, which has Linfield at Chapman and Wabash at Redlands.

I'm a bit confused because my understanding is that conference opponents don't face each other in the first round. Why would the third place SCIAC team play the SCIAC conference champ in the first round?

I can't tell you guys how proud I am of the Panthers this year. Coach Owens and his staff have done an incredible job getting this program to where it is today.

Less than 10 years ago Chapman wasn't even a member of a conference. Now they are on the cusp of winning their 3rd conference championship in 6 years and hosting their first ever playoff game. I know many of the players at Chapman probably aren't satisfied with where they stand now (which is the right mentality) but as an outside observer having watched this program grow i can say its a beautiful thing to witness.

I am somewhat bummed the NCAA changed policy in regards to the same conference teams playing each other. I think a re match would have been great from an attendance, hype, local coverage etc stand point. I agree coach Owens and staff has done a fine a fine job and very much a gracious gentlemen.
Chapman is a lot of attributes, but given its admission standards, it is tough formula, find good players that are eligible for aid or find rich kids that are good players, the in between is not too great. However at some point the school size is going to out grow the SCIAC, and with the planned expansion to 10,000 undergrads (city of Orange in process of approving as long as housing component is met) the school will belongs in the WCAC and play football like USD in the Pioneer League.
I agree that a Redlands v. Chapman rematch would be a hell of a first round game. I think that both of these teams could win their first round match ups and maybe then play some December football.
When it comes to moving up i think Chapman will be okay at the D3 level. 10K undergrad should make for a great football environment especially if the team keeps winning. We will have to see how things play out.

Remember I said out grow the SCIAC...when its a rich 10k plus school, it will not be a good match for the SCIAC, in the next 10 years it will happen

I don't disagree that Chapman at 10k+ students wouldn't be a good fit for the SCIAC. I do however believe the SCIAC will stomach it. Without Chapman the SCIAC would only have 7 schools that play football which would make playing even a 9 game schedule painful for any program.

You could be right that things change in the next 10 years but for the foreseeable future i don't see how SCIAC football thrives w/o Chapman in the conference.

Chapman needs to get the entitlement approvals and needs to buy up some more land to hit their mark, especially housing and maybe another field. So it will take a few more years. Wish I owned land around the college. BTW the stadium is designed conceptually so they could add end zone seats, I think they have done it before a homecoming game.
I think some other facilities would need to be up graded too. So it will be a while, such as the BB gym. On a few occasions I make it over to the club where a few big donors belong, this is the story Chapman is peddling to keep donations up. I don't think the 7 team issue is remotely the issue in the end. Oxy could have dropped FB by then,  even Whittier as the baby boomer alumni die off. CMS announced dropping football but alumni went crazy so who is playing football could change over time. CU is on its own path, they want to challenge Stanford as the best private schools in CA (yes it is a huge dream). The are second to USC in So Cal in terms of alumni and prestige in many areas, so what used to be a sleepy easy to get into school now is a gem, thanks to George.

Yeah, I'd like to be a member of the Orange Unified School District when they finally sell the Orange High campus to Chapman for umpteen million dollars.

Olddog if the D3 boys projected bracket works out you may be able to have your cake and it it too.

So Chapman is the St. Thomas of the SCIAC?
Exactly.
They would have been accepted as members earlier, but they ran up the score with D1 players that had come to them when Cal State Fullerton dropped football.  The other SCIAC members made them calm down.  If they start winning too much in all sports because they have 10,000 students, they may have to join St. Thomas.

How has Azusa been getting along in D2 overall? Seems like that might be a peer.

Overall, mostly good.  This year--horrible.
