Wuhan virus, Chinese virus, Wet market virus. Take your pick, but they are 100 percent responsible for this mess we are in. 2008 is going to look like a walk in the park when this one is all said and done.

Fake news reporter: "China and others have criticized you for using the phrase 'Chinese virus.' How do you feel about that, are you going to continue using that phrase?"

President Trump: "Well, China was putting out information, which was false, that our military gave this to them. That was false. And rather than having an argument, I said I have to call it where it came from, it did come from China. So I think it's a very accurate term. But no, I didn't appreciate the fact that China was saying that our military gave it to them. Our military did not give it to anybody."

Fake news reporter again: "Critics say using that phrase creates a stigma."

President Trump: "No, I don't think so. No, I think saying that our military gave it to them creates a stigma."

Hooray for President Trump! F the evil and vile Communist Party of China.

Yes -- that is a Feb. 7 editorial. Super dated, as was your use of the terminology, which is why I pointed it out.

Its no longer PC and I do not mean Pat Coleman...to say those types of things, but Bob makes a great point. We could have thrown in the Spanish Flu.

Which was clearly misnamed (as are several others on the list).  The 1918 virus (which killed more people than WW1) was rampant among soldiers from various countries before the armistice.  Spain, being a neutral, did not have the war-time censorship of involved countries, who covered up the epidemic so as not to discourage the home folks or give info to the enemy.  The epidemic was therefore first KNOWN in Spain, but almost certainly did not originate there.

The Chinese forced the doctor who tried to alert medical professionals about the virus to sign a death bed confession for criminally disturbing the public peace.  Chinese authorities interfered with VPN services in order to prevent foreigners from exporting information regarding the virus.

Taiwan alerted the WHO on December 31 that a new SARS virus seemed to have formed in China.  The WHO suppressed the Taiwanese message, the director general of the WHO sat next to the Xi on Jan 14 in Beijing and said don't worry, the Chinese say it isn't contagious.  And then the WHO buckled to Chinese pressure and did not invite Taiwan to the global crisis meeting at the end of January, despite Taiwan being the first nation to raise the alarm with the WHO.

China deserve the stigma.  That regime deserves it a thousand times over.

And the WHO's naming guidance?  They can get stuffed.  Start doing your primary mission of managing these things rather than worrying about your cocktail parties and other niceties.  They can rot.

Remember that everyone in government gets paid, no one gets furloughed, and no one loses their benefits. It's easy for them to order everyone else around when there's no consequences to them. If you have to shut down your business and lose your livelihood, oh well, we in government are in charge and morally superior, so too bad for you. Gavin Newsom's retirement savings are not melting away. Or Eric Garcetti's. They don't care because it's easy to be wrong and to persist in being wrong when the costs of being wrong are paid by others. We out here in the real world suffer, not those in government flaunting their moral superiority.

Yep getting ready to make payroll cuts as we speak...it is very sad but best case this like after 911. I think folks will be allowed to go back to work sooner than latter. If this went four months we will be in a depression. I don't think people understand how bad liquidity is in this country, it has nothing to do with rates, will you underwrite them?  No takers out there, Fed going to dump massive amount of money into the market.

I think football season in college and high school in less than 50% chance. NFL might play because they can afford to test all players. Afford to put them up in one or two hotels and play games, with some fans in the stadium. Season could get moved back and modified too. However the logistics for college are just too tough and each school district will be very conservative and as we too many of  teachers and administrative people are lazy and don't want to do one ounce of extra work, but still get paid. If Football is not played in a fashion we are used to this will lead to elimination of programs in the D1 schools (loss revenue like March madness) and even less of an allocation to D3. Another scenario is maybe Ca has peaked but Michigan, LA,NY,NJ, and Conn. are hot spots so they don't play. I hate to say but its not looking good at this point and I am already bored. The virus will continue to grow albeit slower, it wont just die out...personally once it peaks we should get back to close to normal due to the cure is worse than the disease, especially if antidote drugs show promise for most. Future generations will face a very tough future looking for jobs if we don't. We are four months from flat lining our economy like Japan due to the Fed just making money. Ask the Japanese/Korean youth how easy it is to find a job. There has never been a disaster like this one so any modeling is not perfect but given unemployment could get to 30% in the scenario above is not far fetch.  We must do everything possible to make this a 6 to 9 month recession.

I think that college and HS football will not happen this year, unfortunately.  There's just way too many moving parts, especially if COVID-19 is still an issue anywhere.  Its telling seeing the NBA and Chinese basketball leagues trying to isolate their players and staff in order to play.  China keeps pushing off the suggested start.

The thing that gets me about China is that the media completely ignore the crisis there, buying the gov't line.  And it is a genuine crisis - made worse by the communist party's secrecy.  The country is dominated by megacities, people living cheek to jowl.  And the traditional extended nuclear family, three generations in the same household, is still the overwhelmingly common practice.  They have all these at risk older and unhealthy types living in small apartments with the young and healthy who still need to get out and work.  It's almost a perfectly designed breeding ground for maximum misery from this virus.

So the fact that A) the communist party blatantly lies being more concerned with their image than with the welfare of their citizens and B) that the American media not only ignored the evidence but actually defended the communist party line until the last two days when too much evidence made it out past the media embargo is the the greatest scandal of this whole episode to date, in my opinion.

You can't tell me it has not spread to the other regions.  It only takes one person to restart the pandemic.

My buddy spoke to a dean at a D1 school, their conference is working different scenarios...delay practice until school starts, 9-1 etc,...then only play conference games. If this can't happen the season is toast.

A lot of the twitter feed last night about even moving football to the winter or spring in D1, I think its a great idea at all levels. The NCAA need$ D1 football, it should be the priority due to the fact it pays for other sports. High Schools should and D2,D3,NAIA, and JC should follow suit for many reasons from recruiting to America's favorite sport. The other sports may need to modify their schedules but preservation of overall sports programs should be the goal.

On a side note, it will be interesting what happens with these big salaries and different scenarios. I wonder if they have to pay if the season is cancelled. Iowa State has stated pay cuts across the board in the athletic dept.
