Good points. What do multi sports athletes do in the Spring when they have to choose. I played 3 sports (Football, Basketball, Baseball) all four years of HS. Football would have been an easy choice for me, but I’m sure some kids might go the other direction.
WA and OR are (for now) planning to have 3 shortened high school sport seasons from Jan thru June. Winter sports in Jan/Feb, fall sports in Mar/Apr, and spring sports in May/June. In theory, you could still have 2 and 3 sport athletes, but that sounds a bit nuts. We'll see how this whole thing shakes out...

I believe D3 football is in big trouble. Many kids are probably going to pass on football now and just go to the cheapest school and give up football. 60k plus to attend Redlands (online) just to play ball does not make economic sense, even with grants and financial aid assistance. And there is no guarantee there will even be a football season this year.
And no High School football this year will cause a real blow to recruiting.

Agree. Three sports in college is rare, although we just had a senior at Hope who did just that, despite having his senior  baseball season cut short after only 4 games due to the coronavirus crisis. However, two sport athletes in college are common, football/baseball or basketball/baseball or football/ lacrosse, so, indeed, having spring football would cause a huge dilemma for those athletes. As much as I usually didn't agree or like Urban Meyer, I agree with him on this one i.e. not having a spring football season aside from the potential health and o jury issues non-covid related issues if the latter is still a threat to deal with, which it could likely still be. Anyway, I suspect that the decisions in laye winter/early springwill be made similar to the recent ones, coming down to the "last minute" and the "domino effect," thus, my thoughts at this current time.

1) Ca High Schools,  going to three season in half year too.
2) I think the financial part of the model has been broke for a while. The only reason in CA, UR, USC, Chapman can charge these prices is because of how our state has decided to distribute funds and keep the UC school prices up and limit students.
3) I actually think there is a chance many D1 programs could drop football due to Coved, impeding financial issues coming down, impacting the pool of players. Some D2 may drop FB too or try to go down to D3. Other than power 5 schools and a few select basketball programs, trying to keep up is making less sense every day. D3 makes the most sense.  If/When Joe gets elected you know for sure GDP will drop putting more pressure on sports.

Clarification...emphasis on If Joe gets elected.

So whatever happened to Maynard?  Did I miss something?  Thought I had it all under control.

I think this would have been the week UR starts practice if not for the China Virus. 105,109,105,105,102 in the works this week. Maynard would be practicing for sure, it sure made the boys tough back in the era of double days. I sure miss it.

Indeed. Double days and full pads getting after it in that heat. 21 day camp of nothing but football from 6am to 10pm. He stripped us down of self, made us dig deep through adversity, and molded us into a team that would run through a wall for him.

That's why the response was so overwhelming to support him from 3000+ players, parents, friends, and the community when their was an attempt to cancel him. It turns out leadership, character, integrity, dedication, service, and mentorship to young men still counts for something.

RFB, I always felt no team in the SCIAC was tougher than UR...Other teams have had their moments for sure but what I noticed the most is when UR had a down year, the players never give up or roll over.

100 percent agree with you. Redlands teams play hard, and usually come back from a down year. My junior year we were 4-5, but bounced back the following year to 7-2 and SCIAC champs.

In an ERA of Helicopter Parents and Johnny can never be uncomfortable, I enjoyed watching young men to push themselves instead of saying its not fair, it was a joy to watch. Wonderful life lesson for many than did not get this at home. Maynard blamed the losses on themselves, not anyone else, very refreshing.

The UR started furloughing workers this week due to a 7.5$ budget shortfall.  Everyone making more than $58k will take a pay cut up to 6%.  School will not pay into any retirement accounts either.  No wonder the CFO left in June.  Not sure how far it goes, but that is not good news for schools.  Who is going to sit around and wait for their job to possibly come back in January?  With schools not able to get out and recruit, could see a huge drop in enrollment.

WARNING! Hearsay. -- I've been told that all Oxy coaches have been furloughed.

In truth, is there a difference between Oxy playing and Oxy not playing?
