One good thing about all instruction being remote at Oxy this Fall is that the students won't be on campus to destroy the 9/11 memorial this year.

Still cant get the image of those brave souls running back into the buildings after they were hit. They all matter to me, defund colleges if you ask me.

Forgive my ignorance, but was that a real thing?

Yes.

In 2016, the "Conservatives of Occidental" student club planned a 9/11 memorial on the quad area of the campus by displaying 2,997 flags, representing each victim of the 9/11 attacks. The flags were placed in the quad on September 10. Around 1:00 a.m. on September 11, some demented Oxy students pulled up the flags and threw them in the trash. Later the flags were retrieved and replaced.

Rather than condemn outright the vandalism, the soft, doughy then-college president Jonathan Veitch and his weak administration instead took the opportunity to employ their usual Liberal relativism and turn the vandalism of the 9/11 memorial into a "teaching moment" by staging a bunch of contrived, politically-correct events that had little to do with the vandalism.

Supposedly the students responsible for the vandalism were caught and punished, but the college fell back on claims of privacy, so who knows what if anything was really done.

The sorry affair made national news. Yet another proud moment for Oxy.

Was this the same year a group of African American Students representing some organization I cannot remember played the Black National Anthem of which all 1800 stood up and respected, then when the real National Anthem came on, raised up their fist and Walked off. Should have seen the look on an old marine sitting next to me. Is this same year the president invited students in his office for Starbucks for 45 days.

I do not recall that. The weak-kneed Oxy administration did allow a bunch of spoiled brat students to take over the administration building for a week in 2015. Weakling Jonathan Veitch was the president then, too. Rather than give the students an ultimatum to get out of the building or be expelled, he tolerated the students' nonsense and even gave in to some of their demands.

Dean Brown is leaving the U of Redlands for Morehouse College.  2nd President's Cabinet member leave in 3 months.  Is UR in big financial trouble with people leaving like this?

Private school tuition is not sustainable, and that was before the pandemic, so it would not surprise me at all the UofR is having financial trouble.

Elite private schools (Ivy League, Stanford, etc.) are having a difficult time justifying full tuition for online learning, so imagine what Redlands, Chapman, and the other SCIAC schools are facing.

I know of three players taking online classes at a JC, grey shirting ....not a full time student until things clear up ..
The issue is real, according the the recruiting coordinator I know.

I am willing to stick my neck out there, but based on Gavin and his lock on folks (enjoy the start of more to come) ...there will be no football in the SCIAC this winter/spring and I doubt even baseball.
High Schools can work out, but can't share equipment...so no lifting and no balls (just like Gavin) ...I am pro Mask so don't start it ...However given the lack caring about wiping out businesses and tax payers, I doubt you will see HSFB or SCIAC FB.

One man has done so little for kids...They need school, society does not measure things such as mental health of kids, suicide is up over 100%+ among youth, who does not know of one at every school right now. We do not hear about the attempts, and Child Abuse reporting is way down, depending on the source, teachers/schools are responsible for turning in the most cases, I could go on and on. Throw in special ed kids, poor kids and their progress...

Based on Newsom comments yesterday there will not be HSFB or SCIAC FB in the winter or spring. This guys loves the control, 61 percent voted for him so you got him.
1) On 9-17 he said amusement parks will be open soon. 2) On 10-5 he says he is in no hurry to issue guidelines for amusement parks. Normally in business one can figure out the other's ask, I can't on him, even his own legislature is growing tired. Sorry folks...

I agree. The voters elected Newsom, so the citizens of California deserve everything they get.

Yep. California is controlled by Los Angeles and the Bay. This is the exact reason the electoral college voting process has to be protected at all costs or California style government is what we will get nationally. I'm a native Californian, and I love my home state, but even I'm thinking about leaving.

Some states (Nebraska is one) give their electoral vote by congressional district rather than winner take all.
