Say the worst happens and only Chapman, UR and Ca Lu are left playing football.  Do they join the NWC as football only?

Probably not. I would imagine they would go independent.

It is really impossible to be an independent in Division III football in this day and age -- ask Thomas More or Wesley, and they were in much better geographic space to do it.

The SCIAC is in trouble.  With 2 members not sponsoring football, it will make it easier for other schools to drop football.  Here's looking at your Whittier and La Verne.  Hearing that some big news is coming out of the SCIAC in a couple days or weeks.  Don't know what it is yet, but will be a huge.

Would not be surprised at all to see many schools follow. Chapman, Redlands, Cal Lu should be fine, but the others might say football is no longer worth keeping.

At this point in time, I believe there is enough support from the current administrations at CMS and PP that discontinuing football is not in the discussion.

As OxyBob pointed out, the large endowments help in their decisions.

UR, LV, Whittier, and CLU ....endowments under 200m...

This is an attack on tradition. Let's face facts back in the 90's and 00's how many productive, smart, etc...executives wanted to be the president of a Liberal Arts school, clearly not a goal. Your answer is a few and leaving the door wide open for a unsuccessful, non athletic ...to show them ...

I am hearing that some other news in regards to the SCIAC will be coming out, not sure specific to one school or just cancelling all sports this year.

Mid October and athletes can't even play catch in CA. Disney (let 28k go)  can't open and state does not want to be bothered. CA's and NY economic recovery is the are clearly the worse, dont know why?. Per capita health issue are not materially any different than large states, yet slowest job recovery.

My guess is this is a lost year and coaches will start getting laid off soon. We will find out how smart these great liberal Art leaders are really soon.

Jamie got her way. It seems apparent  she only showed up at the football games which I saw her to strut her wife in public.
The Hens and Stags have been having fun as of late

Football, and their legendary coach, Bob Shoup, actually saved CLU in the early years.  So they owe something to the sport.

"Shoup started the Cal Lutheran football program in 1962 with a $5,000 budget, borrowed equipment, a Navy bus rescued from a war-surplus store, and a field cut out of an orange grove. Nine years later, the Kingsmen won a National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics championship and in the process gave the financially strapped school such a public-relations boost that it was saved from extinction.

Shoup is also credited with playing a major role in convincing the Dallas Cowboys to use CLU as a summer training camp facility. The alliance with the NFL team has resulted in field, locker room and weight training facilities that were paid for by the Cowboys and later used by the Kingsmen.

In terms of success, Shoup's record of 182-81-6 is also among the best in the nation.

"There's no question he has a very successful won and loss record and he has built a fine football reputation at CLU," Doering said.

Under Shoup's guidance, Cal Lutheran won 13 NAIA District 3 titles and played in three national championship games before joining the NCAA Division II Western Football Conference in 1985.

Since then, however, the Kingsmen have fallen on hard times. In the past four seasons, CLU is 16-27 overall and has won only two of 21 conference games."

If football is canceled at these schools, male enrollment will drop even farther in SCIAC schools.  This is an attack on the male student and masculinity more than anything.

Its common knowledge the some of their very best and most loyal donors came from sports, football being the highest per capita. Masculine sports will be challenged, baseball is next.
You will see kids not attending schools in CA. UR for example brings in a ton of kids from the NW, in a lot of sports. Who will they replace them with and what is the draw?
If I was the SCIAC's other presidents,  I would boot any non football school out, to protect the AQ. However they would need to do a study, and form committees to hide behind.

More SCIAC news coming out, soon.

Jamie got her way.

Oxy football's fate was sealed when Jaime Hoffman was promoted to AD. She's a vengeful person and was out to get DW and torpedo the football team from Day One. When soft, doughy, disinterested Jonathan Veitch came on as college president, it was only a matter of time before DW was gone and the program ruined. The demise of Oxy football was inevitable.

Our little conference just got littler. Fortunately, Cal Lutheran is nearby, so I'll still be able to take in some SCIAC football.

When you throw merit out the window in hiring decisions, this is what you get. It's a damn shame that Occidental is jettisoning its proud football program. The 2004-2007 Oxy teams were some of the best in SCIAC history. They are pissing on Andy Collins memory and the legacy of thousands of Oxy football alums.

Big news soon, another attack on masculine Men...my heart is broken on this one

You might as well announce it instead of teasing it. What's it matter at this point if it's bad news.
