When you throw merit out the window in hiring decisions, this is what you get. It's a damn shame that Occidental is jettisoning its proud football program. The 2004-2007 Oxy teams were some of the best in SCIAC history. They are pissing on Andy Collins memory and the legacy of thousands of Oxy football alums.

The long-winded insincere blather on the Oxy website about the demise of the football team was signed by the college president Henry Elam, the dean of students Rob Flot, and the AD Shanda Ness. Not one of them has any ties to, knowledge of, or history with Oxy athletics or the SCIAC, so their prattle about "The Oxy Football Legacy" is just that, prattle. Shut up, just shut up.

Morris, Minnesota never looked so good right about now.
They actually won a game last year.

They also still have a team.

Bring back Oxy Football petition at 1,510 ...so Oxy

I would have thought numbers would be greater, can't wait for things to get back to normal and a woke Oxy student calls Oxy Bob for money. He might get an earful.

Those 1500+ are most likely Oxy football alumni.

I wanted to pass along my condolences to Occidental Football.

Oxy was a model program under Dale Widolff.

RIP Tiger Football.

High praise indeed from a member of the modelest program of them all.

It's been awhile since Oxy called me and asked for money. I have a long list of conditions. I might be on the DNC list.

Welcome back, RC.

Thank you.

Some reason I thought of Snoop Dawg this past weekend and wondered if that cheerleader daughter of his ever got married after Redlands.

Just a brief thought on the passing of Oxy football.  When the school sent out information on the final four candidates for the AD position, I knew there was going to be an issue.  The final four candidates were all women (not a problem, but image if it were all men, the outrage).  Three of the four were coming from schools with football programs (guess which one they hired?  Not one of the three).
One was from a D1 school. One was from Pomona.  One was a former coach, athletic admin, and interim AD from Oxy.  None of those three were hired.  Now, I have no idea how well they interviewed, but they had two candidates with knowledge of the SCIAC.  Both of them know how hard it is to recruit athletes for a top academic school.  However, they were not hired.
Could either of them stopped this?  No.  This was on the list of the Board for many years.

Oxy screwed that hire up for sure.  I don't understand why regional institutions hire people from the midwest and east coast.  UR did the same thing.  For whatever reason the very smart people running the athletic department felt it necessary to hire coaches from the Northeast.  Women's VB and Softball.  VB is a train wreck and never wins.  The softball coach was fired after 2 seasons.  What schools on the west coast actively recruit the east coast?  The SCIAC schools need recruits to survive.

What gets me the most, the pathetic path they took to quit playing. Studies, giving alumni false hope, fund raising, wasting people's time. All BS...in the end. Are they that big sissies and just can dig in a say we do not want it anymore, f you guys.....clearly not. Again an attack on white masculine behavior....just my opinion. What kills me is football would have been a great tool to diversify the school. However they do not understand football teams among themselves do not see color.

On the money, 95. Oxy football was doomed when they hired Jaime Hoffman as AD in 2007. Hoffman had it in for DW from Day One. Once he was gone this was inevitable. I'm surprised it took this long.

So, when is the announcement coming that there will be no sports played in 2021 for the SCIAC?
