Its official, SCIAC has cancelled fall and winter sports. Now one if not two more huge tidbits of news still out there.

I do not know how much the coaches have had their pay reduced. I am concerned.
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference called off conference competition, saying, "Institutions have the autonomy to decide whether they wish to permit conditioning, practicing, and other forms of competition as it relates to fall and winter sports during this spring semester."
Slightly different than D3 reported.

Spring sports are a possibility of some kind.

Yes -- the conference reports are often pretty vague, so we checked in with some schools and others in the area to see what the nitty-gritty is.

Like with the fall, it is the LA County schools that are definitely out, while Cal Lu and Chapman and Redlands still have the freedom to play some contests for now. (And emphasis on for now.)

HS sports is cooked as well. CIF just moved the start date for practices to 1/1/21. Zero chance in my opinion that the "Hair Gel Dictator" let's HS sports happen until the 2021/2022 calendar season.

I know a local jc college coach that explained to his kids what is going on and why in CA, specifically LA County....they were baffled as to what the motivation is to manage people in LA County this way, they were shocked at the desire to be controlled. Many voted for him, they don't get why 35 other states are playing HS sports. Its a great and very hard civic lesson for these kids. Now wait and see how it go to get a job in the next couple years.

If anyone is interested in more of Oxy's take on having dropped football, here's a story from their alumni mag:

Laughable read. What a bunch of woke spin using the pandemic and diversity crutch words to distract from the real reasons the program struggled and went under.

Nothing about a toxic, feminist Athletic Director who hates men and had an agenda to get rid of the football programs successful leader and architect, Dale Widolff.

Thanks RFB..

So they are going to diversify other sports? the easiest sport to do it in would be football but we are dropping that one. Watch their endowment slowly recede.

Amazing that the article said the football team had a downturn 2013 and on with no mention of the sorry excuse of an AD firing Dale Wildoff, the most successful football coach in program history.  Football at any school is the most diverse population of student athletes anywhere on campus.  I love how admin thinks that the Admission Office will be able to recruit like the football coaches.  The deflection to Cal Tech dropping football is sad at best and an attempt to place Oxy on the same academic level as Cal Tech.  Such a joke.

Somewhere down the road they will realize that other schools are getting students they would like to get, but that also play football.

Fox,

I would not be surprised if you right on the students, I doubt they have the ability to reflect, I find most people this far right or left...can't reflect and conclude they were wrong.
Greater agenda being serviced.

McKenzie Bezos Scott is giving away her billions.

Whittier College was among the many recipients and will receive $12 million from Scott. "We have decided that this transformative gift will make the greatest impact by helping us invest in what matters most, our people: the staff, faculty, and students of the Poet community," said President Linda Oubré in an Instagram post.

Azusa Pacific drops their football program today. SCIAC football may be on life support. I have not heard that, just an opinion.

The dominoes are starting to fall. Redlands had some great battles with APU over the years, so really sad to hear this news. I think your gut is right, 10Freeway. What school will drop football next.

olddog

There is financial pressure on all SCIAC schools except CMS, CU, and PP....however APU had much different vision...it was not long ago they were talking about going D1, maybe joining USD model.

In regards to UR, many issue waiting on the new president desk, football being one of them. Good news not on the horizon either way, just how much bad news they will publish at one time.

I can't wait for the woke little freshman to call me asking for money. I know of one annual six figure donor and another annual 5 figure donor that has cut UR off...due to what they did to Mike Maynard. The new athletic complex is almost officially on pause. F U, to all involved and did this to Maynard, my A trust was modified to remove your woke school of any funds upon my death.
The new president better be someone that is not soft or woke, or that school will be sold off.

I still think if SCIAC schools drop football, they are doomed unless they go to a National U platform. The will not get the male enrollment. What they should do is focus on getting more high paying Asian kids in that are getting the short end of the UC stick.
