There is financial pressure on all SCIAC schools except CMS, CU, and PP....however APU had much different vision...it was not long ago they were talking about going D1, maybe joining USD model.

In regards to UR, many issue waiting on the new president desk, football being one of them. Good news not on the horizon either way, just how much bad news they will publish at one time.

I can't wait for the woke little freshman to call me asking for money. I know of one annual six figure donor and another annual 5 figure donor that has cut UR off...due to what they did to Mike Maynard. The new athletic complex is almost officially on pause. F U, to all involved and did this to Maynard, my A trust was modified to remove your woke school of any funds upon my death.
The new president better be someone that is not soft or woke, or that school will be sold off.

I still think if SCIAC schools drop football, they are doomed unless they go to a National U platform. The will not get the male enrollment. What they should do is focus on getting more high paying Asian kids in that are getting the short end of the UC stick.

New topic for discussion: offensive formations

I watched the USC vs. Oregon game intently.    Being a SC fan, I knew the game would be tough and Oregon deserved the win.

But, that said, I have been most disappointed for many years about USC's lack of a running game.    Whatever happened to Tailback U from the 60s and 70s?

Pass, pass, pass has been it.     Like Linfield, they run the Spread formation.    Yes, it is a very entertaining offense for the fans.   Does it win enough?    I have no stats to know.    And, I have never been a football coach.

What I do see though is the Spread formation creates a huge challenge for that lonely running back to find any room to run.    It looks pretty easy for the defense to see him with the ball.    It is either him or the QB and they are headed in different directions.

It is my belief that USC and Linfield have had some outstanding players on offense in the last 15 years.    But neither has won a National Championship in this period.   USC and Linfield both won last in 2004.     (WHAT A GREAT YEAR FOR ME!!)

Anyway, I would love to hear your thoughts on offensive formations.     Can the Spread win it all?

Clay Helton is the problem. He should have never been given the reigns to a "blue blood" program like USC. He belongs in the MAC, Sun Belt, or Conference USA. He has set the program back significantly, and they need to hire Urban Meyer ASAP.

In the great state of CA, and So Cal specifically if HSFB does not start by 2-15, there wont be a season, but the lock downs have worked well, its not like we are the hot bed of the country, its not like unemployment is worse than other states.  I cant figure it out, I need the medias help, why so many cases in certain locations. I will keep watching Gavin to explain it to me, maybe we can discuss it over dinner and some Napa Valley red.

So fast forward, how will recruiting go this spring? Will parents enroll kids? will D3 schools commit to in classroom teaching. Its going to be interesting, I think the JC coaches will have a lot of kids coming out this summer.

Or resurrect John McKay.

Merry Christmas, SCIACers.

Well the news is out, Mike Maynard resigned months ago...he purchased a house in the Northwest months ago too....

Basically Mike said F U to the school after he was cleared and said I am done, he was planning his exit while this little woke dance was going down. This BS took a ton out of him. Good Luck to coach Maynard, one the best human beings anyone could have their son mentor.

Its a sad day and end of a glorious Era. Lets hope Good keep the boys accountable like Maynard.

Good is 10-30 as a head coach. Before Good Maynard won the SCIAC 44% of the time 10/23 and with Good 3/9 Or 33% of the time. This is a great hire for the rest of the SCIAC. With so many of Maynard's old assistant very successful head coaches, it's sad that the Athletic Admin rushes this hirer through.  I know many alumni that are cutting off donations due to the athletic department giving the middle finger to football for so long. How Maynard was treated the last few months have exasperated these feelings.
If there is still SCIAC football. I don't think the league survives personally. Chapman wouldn't play in the Spring because it's too expensive, when your biggest school says that, that's not a good thing.

An end of an era is putting it lightly. The best leader, mentor, and coach in a generation at Redlands (all sports) was just treated like dirt and dragged through the mud publicly for all to see. He deserved better than this, and  I don't blame him at all for giving "double middle fingers" to the university.

What really sucks is Mike Maynard was not able to retire on the field and given the proper send off and celebration of gratitude that he 100 percent deserves. Shame on you, Redlands!

Is there somewhere where this is reflected? I believe you but would like to see something in print if possible ...

Football Scoop, posted a succession plan, I doubt Maynard ever coaches a game at UR again ...that is the second real story

Freeway, I don't think that is a fair reflection on Good. He has come a long way. The biggest positive is I think Good keep Mariani as the DC and the defensive staff. I think UR's defense over the last 10 years has been the best...only team that can argue with it is Chapman maybe over the last 5 years. Even when UR had a couple 500 seasons, the defense played well keeping them in games, short field after short field.
