This championship literally saved the school.  Enrollment was not covering expenses, and it was facing bankruptcy.

Bob Shoup began the football team from scratch in 1962.  The publicity from this victory increased enrollment to bring them in the black.  Shoup was promised a lifetime job as a result.  Success continued, and the Kingsmen even moved to D2 for about five years.  They were expecting more and built a nice stadium.  A group was formed to study the future, and they decided to move to D3. Shoup left in 1989.  They joined the SCIAC in 1991. I remember that one of those interim years they tried six different starting QBs.

That is good info.  Thanks for sharing.  You have clearly followed the SCIAC and D3 football.  I appreciate your knowledge, thanks.

Jim Good officially takes over at UR, I wish him and Joey Mariani the best. About half the seniors from the 2020 team stuck around for the 21 season, with our QB and RB back.
How many senior stick around is going to be the unknown topic for all teams in their projected order of finish. Pat's job just got easier.
Less than two more years of Gavin.

I lived in Thousand Oaks from 1988 to 1995.  That is where I learned most of this.

My son likes Thousand Oaks.  It is very similar to south Orange County, where we live.  It is also expensive!  Thanks for the tid-bits.

2019 Cal Lu was 4-3 in conference, and hope to improve on that this year, but my son is not sure how the season will go.  They have hired several new coaches and large recruiting class.  Time will tell.

One of those victories was over a team that has given up on football.

A win that every team in the conference enjoyed, but non-the-less, a win.  Funny that my son was recruited by all the SCIAC schools, including Oxy.  Glad he did not choose them!

Irony, Coach Maynard is gone due to UR not having the eggs to stand up to all including the woke minority at UR and Coach Mac gone in my opinion due to how this state is changing.

Washington and Texas got two good men, sucks. I just hope the bus tracks have faded on Maynard's back. Football alums are still red hot.

Totally agree and know for fact that your assessment of Mac is correct.  His daughters both graduated from Cal Lu and he was done with the school and state woke climate.  My son would have dinner with his family ofte3n, and knew him and the family well.  The school and conference have lost some quality coaches of young men, not just football players.
