CLU had a terrible performance.  The team bus broke down on the way to the stadium.  The rain was hard and consistent, and the grass field was heavy and muddy.  The rain subsided with about 8 minutes left in the game and magically, they started playing and UPS started self-destructing.  CLU blocked two punts, running one back 50 yards for a TD.  QB threw a dart for a quick 60 yard pass and 22 unanswered points in the last 8 minutes or so for a 25-21 ugly, but character building win.  A buy week to help build off this win.  Chapman in 4 week.

Puget Sound's field sucks and they love it that way because it acts as a neutralizer for teams that are not accustom to playing in gross mud (which is now pretty much 100% of D3 teams).

I watched the last quarter and if they played that game on their turf practice field next door, CLU would have won by 28+

My take on the LF/Puppies.

1) Mike Maynard's team might have lost that game but not by 39. UR was far from ready to play. Maynard took pride in certain area of the game such as special teams. When did you ever see UR look like they never punted before ?
2) UR has to stop recruiting fat offensive linemen. The formula does not work, there is a reason they are not playing D2, or D1. They are slow.....
3) This is the worse I have seen defense look against LF or MHB. I don't know if it was Smith at QB. I think at some point we try to bring pressure on third and long. Since our corners were giving mattress size cushions and I could have played free safety better. Whoever is coaching the safeties has them hopping around doing nothing and not giving any inside support on post is just down right freshman football.

LF,

Its easy to like the QB, but the core of your team is your fronts. They are as good as any I have seen the last 10 years. LF can rush three men and get pressure. Your DEs are terrific and quick. Hence our fatties could not catch up to them.
You O line is equally good. They got into UR D line and kept contact for that extras half second that makes a huge difference. They kicked our NG ass all night long and that is a key to being able to do what you want with your running game. In a 3-3-5 like UR runs, if your nose can take out two guys and not get washed out, its huge for the backers to be able to close and tackle instead of getting cut off. Those two NG need to grow a pair and stay in the gap and plug. Its brutal up front but our linemen can't take a side/washed.

In short we got tooled by at top 5 LF they should easily make it to the final 8. I think the SCIAC is down, based on this weekend, CLU and CU...games. So we will see. Unless a miracle happens the SCIAC will be one and done. Lets see what Good does with the week off, clean up some stuff. Chapman in three weeks I think.

On the flip side, did anyone watch WC, om my gosh, they are getter worse. I think I might be in the O line rotation.

I think your assessment is 100% spot on about Linfield.  This team is both build by their ability up front.   I was sort of worried about the offense during camp because our defensive line at time made life hard for the offense but I kept saying to myself that this is a pretty special defensive front.  I actually think it's a huge help for our offensive line to go against that every week in practice.

Redlands lost some key guys from that damn good 2019 team. Good will grow as a HC.  Wish I could have been there this past Saturday and best of luck the rest of the season

WC, yes we lost some key linemen, but when starting overweight, young linemen....top 5 team we get hammered

We all knew the SCIAC was going to be down this year, but after CMS beat CU, man according to a fella I know that follows it closer than me it is really down.

My pre-season observations.

UR, I think they are the best team in the league and that is not saying much. They can be beat easily by CMS, CU, CLU...Its clear the program has been impacted by losing Maynard.
In addition to losing some key players. The O line is just young, fat , slow and mostly inexperienced. I really do not understand being fat at that age. The defense is hurting the most from the lose of two major assistant coaches, I can see it in their play. We lost our DB coach De La to a more stable & better paying high school job plus his wife wanted security in the area and our DC lost his right hand man and long time JC Coach Bill Brown to retirement. Word is the Maynard deal pissed him off. Brown coached linebackers and was up in the booth during games. De La played at UR prior and was one of the hardest working assistant you have seen. We did replace them with an extra QC person.

CU, they too lost a bunch of guys up front and the skills are young. They are not as deep or as fast as they have been in the past few years. The team lack of team speed was apparent Saturday.
CMS took advantage of their size against CU.

CLU, they has some skills that can play and a good group of linebackers. I like how their backers movement to the ball. Up front so far I have seen nothing special. They seem to be a half dozen good players away.

CMS, I like their size, they appear to have addressed that issue. The team is a little slow but game plan is solid. The d line is vastly improved from the past and have WR and TE that will block.
I don't know if team speed will catch up to them, but they have to be considered one of the four contenders, maybe the lead dog.

ULV, they appear to have had a couple weak recruiting classes. The fronts are not very strong, tough to win with those guys up front. They have a couple WRs  that can run, QB is not bad if he has time.

PP, pretty much the same team every year, of the bottom 3 they could sneak up on the top 4.

Whittier, just horrible, getting worse. I really do not understand why so bad. LV and WC are the easiest to get into, and WC offers some pretty good aid. Great region to recruit in, its a mystery to me why not better. I pray they keep football, the old time alums are dying off that would put pressure on the school.

I am not sure that I agree with Old Dog and his assessment.   The conference is always pretty wide open, but this year more than most.  Redlands got destroyed by Linfield and CMS ran it down Chapman's throat and Chapman could not stop the run.  I watched the game and neither team looked impressive, but CMS O-line looked strong.  PP has a great QB, but that is about it.  CLU is the most balanced team in the conference, but lack depth at LB and has several key skill players on the mend.  I would have to say that the winner of the Chapman-CLU game Oct. 16 at Chapman will win the conference.

Love it, Dr D....I guess what UR did to the other NWC teams is meaningless. Until last Saturday, UR has stopped the run game very well since going to the 3-3-5, I have seen all of the teams play and none of their O lines compare to LF. UR in the past had success stopping LF run game, did well against MHB except their damn QB RPOs ....They have been the best run stop team in the conference historically. Ask coach Mac about a couple stops in the Red Zone that cost him to games at your place. The conference is way down, CLU, CU, CMS, and UR are all very average this year.

Dr. D...The CMS/Chapman game just played was l believe a non conference game. The game on 11/6 at Chapman should be the one that counts for both. Watching both of those teams l think Chapman will win at Chapman. I still feel the SCIAC will be decided 10/23 when Chapman plays at Redlands.
