HUGE game Saturday night between CLU and Chapman at Chapman.  Winner will have drivers seat to conference title, although Redlands might argue.  If CLU beats Chapman, they will likely be undefeated going into the final game against Redlands.  That will also be a HUGE game.  I know that is counting chickens before they hatch!

Having a hard time imaging a team that should have lost to Puget Sound potentially being the drivers seat in the SCIAC.

UR beat them by 50, but some think UR is the third place team. UR had a bad night against LF...no doubt, but If you were to give me a 42 point spread the next time they play, I would take the points.

The last time Cal Lu beat either Redlands or Chapman was 2012. I've watched them a little this year and they beat up on some really bad teams, and escaped with a wild comeback against a really bad UPS team. I just don't see it happening this year.

I think more than the past few years, who will be the league champ is up in the air and if the Regals beat CU or UR it is not an upset. I think UR and CU still have the better teams over CLU, PP and clearly CMS.  However it is very simple, all the schools except Whittier, LV and Oxy have a chance and all 5 schools have had moments of looking below average. I have seen UR get hammered by LF or MHB early in the season, improve and come back and play them much tougher in the second game.
Who improves the most and takes advantage of their match up wins. CMS could not run the ball on UR or throw deep. UR just plays mistake free for a while and they win, easily. Based on what I saw against LV it looks like they are starting to clean things up, and really taking advantage of the "third best QB in the league". Our third best QB is a nightmare for DC around the league trust me, bring pressure and play man (he will run for a first down almost every time.), and UR play calling last week was very good last week and an indication of what we will see week to week. LV Dline and LB on their heals all day. Question for UR, can PP and CLU throw the ball on them, can UR keep up with CU team speed, and counter plays. Its is what makes it fun.

Everything is new this year for UR.  Maynard is gone and we saw how they played in one big game.  I am confident that the boys will play hard against CLU an CU, but time will tell if the coaching staff is ready to lead them without Coach Maynard.

Old dog seems like his memory is failing, or he just does not read.  Redlands has top 2 QB in conference as I said since PP QB from 2019 is gone, and they don't play in a league!   :'(  Old dog likes to rave about his puppy dogs, but why does he have to be disrespectful to the male athletes at CLU by calling them Regals?  Perhaps his insecurity coming out.  CLU has shown character this season by putting starters back in vs PLU and driving the ball from CLU 16 yard line to PLU 1 yard line to take a knee after an 8:14 second drive to close the game out after bench allowed a comeback!  Against UPS, the rain and mud stopped them, not UPS.  Once the rain stopped, the scored 22 unanswered points in the last 6 minutes of the game, again showing character.  I am a Chapman alumnus, and see that they are not the same team as 2019.  Redlands O-line is fat and slow, per olddog.  I agree that 5 teams in the conference have a chance yearly, but with the new improved coaching staff at CLU, they seem to be different this year.  We can all speculate, but Chapman plays CLU and Redlands the next two weeks, so we will see what happens.

. . . but what was the result in the end?
The SCIAC is in dire need of a 2nd round win.

Love it Dr D, it's all in fun...sincerely best of luck to your son. Its good for the league (others love to correct me on that one too)  if CLU is doing well too...ps calling CLU team the Regals goes way back. When they were winning with Rogers and Co., other CLU posters did not lack confidence. The best one was when CLU, D1 transfer from UCLA got the tip of his finger on a game winning FG by UR, and you would have thought we all watched a different game that night, how CLU dominated etc. Got to love people.

PP/UR....

The game comes down to two issues....Can UR stop PP passing game. I think so, I would expect UR mix it up a bit from their 3-3-5. I would expect to see the weak side linebacker walked down or go to a true 40 look, in order to get a pass rush. I don't think we will blitz a ton. I think we will try to take away hook to curl...some dig routes, force throws to outside or up top. Other patterns take longer to run, hope we gets some QB hurries. I doubt PP will have more than 75 yards rushing on us and if they do, we may have a problem. I don't think PP has the personal up front to run the ball consistently.

The second issue on offense. Establish the running game, get our D some rest. We are coming right at them for sure. If the O line can build on last week and get a few LB down field we win. Our third best QB in the league will give them fits. I hope PP gets desperate and brings heat. Martinez will make them pay. I expect our QB to pull the ball a bit more on zone read and some QB draws will be fun.
Our third best QB is completing 70% of his passes. I expect more of the same based of the run game. I really like our backs, both run tough.

Final notes, we have to continue to play Bulldog football. Win the Turnover battle, fewer penalties and less mental errors. This is what I care about, if you get beat so be it. Its still about getting better every week. This will determine the league champ given who even the teams match up.

Oolddog, Redlands should dominate P-P.  I think that they will win by 20.  I think the Chapman-CLU game will close and if CLU can stop Chapman's run game and not beat themselves with penalties, they should pull off a close fought game by 3 or so points.  Chapman team speed will be a challenge for the CLU O-line, but the game plan should address it from what I hear.  Excited to see how good CLU is against a good D3 team.  PLU doing ok, and Southwestern has lost several close games, but a victory against Chapman could put the Kingsmen into top 25, perhaps?

Take a look at our poll -- Chapman has 18 votes and CLU has zero. So, pretty unlikely.

Take a look at the coaches poll, which has 1 vote for Chapman, 7 votes for Redlands and CLU has 13 votes.  I trust coaches over your poll Pat.  Sorry.

Haven't you guys predicted Linfield losing a few times already?

Me? I haven't predicted Linfield to lose once this year. I am highly on record as saying Linfield is underrated, even at 7.
