Dawgs,

Not looking to debate with you but a young coach taking a job, where the best any team had done in 25 years is 5 wins...obviously football is not that important to Admin and they play in tough conference, not a great formula. I am sure it was one of those jobs a young coach thought he could turn around (he was in his early 30's) ...Fast forward he works for MM a ton of years along with the best DC in the league. Their is a long list of coaches that have failed at their first jobs...gone on to win. We need to recruit better linemen, and fine tune a few things. We are not that far from being at the top again. Maybe we go the JC route next year...top guys will get scholies, but maybe we land a couple undersized guys that can play.

J.C. transfers can help immediately as far as good players, but sometimes it changes the team chemistry.  My boy says it did this year at CLU, but they are starting to gel better now.  CLU have three tough games in a row with Redlands, CMS, and P-P.  If they finish with 2 out of three wins, I would be happy.  They could just as easily lose all three or win all three.  We will see.

Dr.

Did your son get recruited by UR? just wondering

UR has had some JC transfers, for the most part they worked out well but I get what you are saying.

Yes, he did after attending a camp on your campus.  He visited CLU, Redlands, P-P, and Chapman in SCIAC, Whitworth and George Fox in NWC, and Wheaton and Carthage(CCIW), and the Johnies, St. Olaf, Bethel and Gustavus (MIAC).  The St. John's coaches made a home visit and I wanted him to go there, but the dorms were ancient and it's Minnesota.  LOL.    We had fun on recruiting trips--memories of a lifetime.  Can't believe it will all end soon.  :(

I think I found the problem...

Winning streak is now at 9. I will say it once again, Cal Who?

Defense did not come to play.  I have never watched a game where the 3rd and 4th down marks/spots were so poor and against CLU.  The Redlands radio broadcaster who we sat next to during the game broadcast (nice big fellow) was in complete agreement and said to me that he has never seen so many questionable spots (4) in the first half.  They were difference makers.  However, over all, Redlands came to play and CLU did not.  The trenches were won by Redlands.  Move on to next week and a good P-P team.  I do not think that any SCIAC team will go undefeated in conference play this season.

Sorry to barge in, any P-P fans here? I've heard a series with my alma mater, Carleton, has been scheduled for next year. At MN in '23 and CA in '24. Haven't seen any announcements from either team, but curious if folks tied into the P-P program have heard the same rumors I've heard on my side.

I couldn't find anything on the Pomona website.  A good match up.

Claremont- Mudd Scripted the solutes easily today.

Don't remember seeing that.

This game was very frustrating.  It is tough for the players to win when the coaches give up.  4th and 1 in 3rd quarter with ball on your own 46 yard line, down 24 and they punt.  The defense had not stopped them on 4 consecutive drives and you punt?  I am not a coach, so this if fan/parent talk, but the players are all in agreement, that they get out coached every game.  Play calling on both sides of the fields are questionable.  The team is down three starting offensive lineman from injuries, and 4 key injuries on defense.  The bench depth is weak.  They recruited a lot of J.C. transfers and they seem to have selfish attitudes.  4 J.C. kids were kicked off the team in the locker room after the Redlands game for fighting/arguing with coaches.  Lugo has lost the team.  The players do not respect him anymore.  Sad to see.  My son is a senior, so I feel bad for the underclassman, if Lugo stays.

Not much to say about Redlands (been out of town), Staff is working harder than ever, its not coaching...DB's had mental lapse to really hurt us.  My comments about the team have not changed we need to be quicker and faster, so those witty old men that offer no football feedback continue to mock it.... UR jammed the ball down CLU throat because of their youth upfront. CMS just gave CLU a super size version. Chapman team speed is what gives us fits, its that simple. When a 5'10 190# guy just tears up our backfield, we got to get quicker. The games against CMS and PP should be closer.

Chapman is very well coached and the player speed is excellent.

I trust the coaching staff to turn it around, and believe that they will.

Garcia UR's punter and kicker is one of the D3 athletes of the week. All I can say is I told you so...he does a few nice things, one gets rid of the ball on punt very quickly when he has too. Very consistent which is great for coverage and practice reps. Special teams look good, thank the Lord.

UR has had some good kickers, When I saw SC struggling with kickers, I always wondered how they missed a couple of ours. Many years our kickers performed better than local D1 teams.

Redlands has had good to great special teams all the way back to when I played there, and that was a long time ago. They continually bring in strong kick specialists. Winning the field position battle was engrained by Mike Maynard teams, so good to see strong special teams play has continued.
