Sad Day for sure in regards to Whittier. I guess enough of the old alumni have died off and they are not worried about their support anymore. Whittier has produced some wealth alumni from the 50's and 60's. If was the hot ticket for a while. I guess Whittier is ok giving up 75 to 100 more male students. Its going to be interesting on how healthy the school stays.

The trend is not our friend, my guess is LV could be next.

The Frontier Conference (NAIA) plays a 10 game league schedule, with teams having the option of a zero week game (11th). I think that idea makes the most sense at some point.
If the SCIAC goes down to 5 teams, SCIAC football is over, unless Arizona Christian or a school like that decide to drop NAIA status and go D3...The rumor has been out there before the AZ schools might go D3. It would be cheaper for the AZ schools to come to CA than play the schedule they play.
... but does Arizona Christian have the same mission/vision to join the SCIAC?

Redlands pretty much dropped football this year too.

I saw the official statement on Twitter. Whittier is cutting not just football, but men's lacrosse and both men's/women's golf as well. They gave a bunch of reasons, I would probably stop short of calling them good reasons, but they were reasons.

Whittier cutting Football, both Golf teams, and Mens Lacrosse for an eSports and yoga classes (which have been happening since I graduated in 2010). Linda Oubre, the president (or lack there of), has been nothing but bad for Whittier. Hiring her own spawn to be in administrative roles under her. Living in Palm Springs currently while they remodel 2 mansions above the college in order to sell the Wardman house (Presidents home for decades). Making decisions without input from alumni, other administrators, or current student boards. This lady has not even been on campus since the first day of school (apparently Covid remote work still exists for her). Nothing short of a joke of a leader. Brags about her incredible leadership at USF and her fundraising but brings non of that to WC. Board of Trustees can go as well. Miguel Santana press release was a joke. Seems to be that the clowns are running the circus.
Sad days to be a Poet. Not always the best and struggled in football for the last decade or so but definitely a storied program.
115 years, 26 SCIAC Championships, "The Shoes", Nixon, Allen, Newman, Coryell and thousands of others.  What a devastating decision. If the other 18 sports think they are safe, those athletes better start transferring. Only a matter of time..

Well said! So much history at Whittier, and Oxy before them gone in a flash.

Linfield's president tweeted in response to D3football.com's Whittier story in support of a possible NWC/SCIAC football merger:

It makes a lot of sense. At least for football it does.

Sad day in SCIAC football history.  Merger with NWC interesting idea?

ASC might be in trouble too--maybe the SCIAC and ASC need to merge...or NWC/ASC/SCIAC super conference  :o

The Arizona schools in the NAIA does not make sense to me, if you are going to continue to play football.

I finds this entire process so political and ridiculous.  There are two first team QB's and only 3 first team offensive lineman.   Only three O-lineman on second team and so on... I know the first place team gets more players than the second place team, ect.., but should the teams not actually be a team, not a list of players?  Maybe I'm old school, but you need first, second and third team (possibly) for every position, not a list of the coaches favorite players or best stats?  Congrats to all the players who were selected.  You and your parents should be proud!
