Lets Have Some fun...

What schools are the least masculine in the SCIAC...

My list....

#1, Oxy, see Oxy Bob to mansplain, landslide , president will let you camp in his/her office , students can dupe school and hold protest at halftime. 911 Flags dont stand a chance there
#2 Whittier, the old alumni is dying off they do not have to cater to them anymore. They sure are showing us how to run a school into the ground...You are realize this use to be the hot school to go to, much like Chapman
#3 Cal Tech, Beavers is a good nick name
#4 Pomona, there is a reason they are called the Hens...
#5A Redlands, folks could not wait to get Maynard out, I guess his ex players were too generous.
#5B, La Verne, taking notes and working hard to follow the Whittier model, alumni is not happy, president not a very good football player
#6 Cal Lu, sad but true Regals have taken over the Kingsmen
#7 CMS, will move up when they drop the Stagg Mascot name and become the Unicorns
#8 Chapman, have not gone 100% liberal ... they do not want to cut off the Orange County hands that feed them.

Just having some fun

Did you see the Bud Light is trying to use Kelsie to bring them back, wonder what they are paying him? They must be loving his new GF.

Watched a lot of Redlands vs La Verne yesterday and have to say La Verne did not look a horrible (considering they lost to Willamette) as I was expecting.  They did some good things defensively but their offense just couldn't keep up.  I'm sure the weather played a factor in the result but I was expecting a bigger win for Redlands.  I'm sure Olddog will break it down for us but B-dogs didn't look like the team we saw the last couple of games.

Also--CalLu beating Chapman?  I really thought Chapman was a front runner after the way they started at Pacific but both teams have proven to be weaker than expected....  SCIAC is looking like a CMS-Redlands show down on the horizon.

This Weekend.

Cal Lu/Chapman. It looks like Coach Lugo took a page from UR's game plan. The Regals ran the ball for over 200 yards and only threw for 138. I did see Chapman stayed in that undersized front and the blitz package was very predictable. Lugo caught them bringing 5 plus a few times on third down. On offense it obvious the Chapman O line is not as good as the past. Chapman up front on both sides of the ball is not as good as the past few years, the game is still won upfront. They will struggle.

CMS/PP. Its clear CMS is improving every week. They do not even need their stud RB to play much or well to win. Very athletic looking fronts. CMS is the clear front runner to win conference. The only hole in CMS is team speed. However fronts are very good. Their O line is the best in league clearly. UR has the best skills in the league. I will take better front over skills all day long. UR is the underdog.

UR/LV. It was a boring game. Redlands defense played well, LV had a much better game plan this week, trying to control their down and distance better than the last few weeks, trying to establish a run and short passing game. They are improving. UR's offense is my concern. Many down and distances I can predict what we are going to run and I dont have a Huddle account. Maybe UR is holding back some different packages and I too would not show much against LV, given the Pomona game is a must win to take your division. We need to mix up our formations, more motion, more shifts etc...If you a playing defense and they come out in set you have seen all week in practice, you know what plays they run given the down and distance. Change the set with a flex or motion and now I have to re process in less than three seconds. The offensive line  works harder than last year, so there is hope down the road. They seem to try to move their feet better than last season. My desire is we play well against PP, and bring some new looks to CMS. Our QB is improving every week. On a couple tough throws, many good decisions.

Not to ever doubt or question the wisdom of the olddog, but CLU only ran for 99 yards.  It was all about the QB Andrade's quick release and accuracy as he only had about 2 seconds as play before pressure got to him.  Once Chapman's starting QB went down in the 2nd quarter, Chapman's offense became one dimensional--run heavy and the O-line did not do the job for Chapman.  The result was shocking, but happy for CLU.  CMS is improving, but Edwards does not seem the same as in the past.  PP went for it on their 2 yard line on a 4th and 13 with about 5 minutes left in the game.  Crazy they caught a bomb down the sideline to convert!
Redlands looked sluggish against a weak La Verne Team.
It is CMS as coference favorites, with Redlands, PP, Chapman-CLU-Laverne to follow.

Redlands offense is predictable. I've mentioned this many times already, but the offense has not evolved in years and lacks creativity. Putting a QB under center and using a power running game with misdirection and play action is blasphemy in 2023 I know, but damn does Redlands have the strengths and personnel for it.

I agree that Redlands would do well with the 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust type offense.  That would be their strength.

You are correct my dyslexia got to me (it was CU not CLU that ran for 200), they do not call it something back then...They told me to proof read my work better, no excuses, IEP, limitations, special help, Johnny cant...Just took the red check on my paper....Non participation trophy era

Every weekend I'm seeing more Wing-T type aspects in the college and pro game. They just do it out of more advanced formations to fit the shotgun, spread offense that everyone runs now. My first year at Redlands in the early 90's we ran a traditional Wing-T offense and absolutely obliterated teams with it. Our only regular season loss was to a D2 team and that game was tight, and to eventual National Champion Wisconsin-Lacrosse whom we played very well against.

I'm not saying you have to go back to an archaic mindset for offense, but the concepts still work and do a great job of getting the ball in your best players hands. Mix in some power game and QB under center, or run some misdirection concepts out of the gun with your receivers who run well with the ball in their hands.

olddog

RBF,

I agree

I too am seeing more power being brought back into the game (HS to Pro). Players today see so much spread, single back, trip types formations...they never learned to stop dive, blast, power, trap, and sweep(like players pre 2005). How many players do you see wrong arm properly in D1, let alone D3. How may O line double team that well ? I would bring some back to D3 Football, given run blocking is easier for buffet eaters than kick sliding, getting shoulders square, punch, slide etc.

This is why Redlands is good against the run, their D line is well coached. Double teams get ate up, plays bounce due to proper wrong arms etc..

I know some local HS that gone back back to these looks, plus show so many version old school formations, forcing the other teams to practice defending for the first time, eating up practice time. Dreaming of seeing I back, and FB blast.
