RBF,

I agree

I too am seeing more power being brought back into the game (HS to Pro). Players today see so much spread, single back, trip types formations...they never learned to stop dive, blast, power, trap, and sweep(like players pre 2005). How many players do you see wrong arm properly in D1, let alone D3. How may O line double team that well ? I would bring some back to D3 Football, given run blocking is easier for buffet eaters than kick sliding, getting shoulders square, punch, slide etc.

This is why Redlands is good against the run, their D line is well coached. Double teams get ate up, plays bounce due to proper wrong arms etc..

I know some local HS that gone back back to these looks, plus show so many version old school formations, forcing the other teams to practice defending for the first time, eating up practice time. Dreaming of seeing I back, and FB blast.

Willamette under Mark Speckman ran the Fly offense, and they gave teams problems. A well executed fly sweep was a thing of beauty to watch.

From what I see of the large O-line and big-punishing RB, I like them going smash mouth, dive-power-blast-sweep, with some misdirection mixed in.

I did think that A. Rogers comment about Kelce being Mr. Pfizer was comical.  You could argue both sides.

SCIAC is down this year

SCIAC is basically the same.  I thought the NCAC was marginally improved and those two leagues traded places.  That, plus the addition of the Landmark Conference is the two spot drop.  I wouldn't read that much into it.

Redlands loss to a bad Pomona team at home was as bad as I can remember. The team was unprepared for the second week in a row with terrible play on offense and special teams.

I've seen enough of the Jim Good era. It's time for new leadership at Redlands.

RBF, you played d line? when did you ever give up less than 200 yards, team only had one drive and you lose to an average team at best.

Coach Good needs to re-visit Mike Maynard rules across the board. UR is not good enough to commit so many penalties, UR can not afford to lose special teams. I still think the kicker is hurt, he does not look the same. FG/PAT...UR works on this a lot, goes to tell you wrong personal were in the game. Maybe go back to putting tougher guys in the box that step down to take the hit. Dont think, do your job.

UR offense, first off get the plays into the game quicker, what the hell is going on? Stop running speed option in short yardage, especially to the short side of the field. Its easy to defend as a line backer. The tape is out on UR....there will be no more gifts like Chapman defended us. Get your #2 ready...props to him the moment was not too big in the fourth.

Defense dominated ...again...even broadcasters got on the offense which is rare.

Shocking SCIAC result Sat. night.  The conference is up in the air.  CMS not as strong, with Edwards struggling to find open lanes/holes.  PP up and down-inconsistent at best.  Redlands had two weeks in a row of CRAP play on offense and defense.  Barely beating a La Verne team last week that got shut out and lost by over 50 points to a CLU team that has a great D3 QB, and average otherwise.  Who knows who will win the conference, at this point?

StagLove

CMS offense really struggled.  Edwards is struggling to run behind a revamped line.  The offense gave up a pick 6 and two fumbles inside our own 30 in the first half which resulted in 17 of Chapman's points.  Very difficult to win under those circumstances.  Kulenkamp needs to settle down and use his legs more.

No, I played defensive back. The offense is beyond basic, and it shocks me that there is so little creativity within it. Redlands put Tremain under center and went power backfield once, and they had nice play action out of it for a 4th down conversion. And then right back to their anemic spread offense.

I'm not a fan of designed run/option play with your QB, and Tremain was holding his knee when they ran it in the 4th quarter as soon as he went down. I'm hoping for good news, but it looked like a significant injury. His running ability should only be used to extend plays when pass routes break down.

The Mike Maynard led teams of discipline are long gone, especially in special teams. It cost them greatly Saturday night. No way in hell Redlands should be losing to a bad Pomona team like that at home.

Redlands would be an attractive job if they opened up the position to a new coach. This has nothing to do with Jim Good the man, but he's a mediocre head coach.

I agree with your take on the QB and going under center sometimes. Old is new again type deal.
Mental errors just are not UR football.

The SCIAC is not an attractive conference for any head coach right now, if the UR job were to open.  Redlands lost that window when they ran Maynard off.  SCIAC football is dead in 10 years, IMO.

You very well could be right that SCIAC football is not in existence in 10 years. One more program calling it quits could accelerate that timeline. I would hope that Redlands has plans to keep the program and would find another conference to join, either the NWC or ASC would make sense.

UR is not as keen on football as they want you to believe.  I am not making any excuses for Jim Good, but Martinez and the others in charge at UR have not given Jim Good the money/position to hire an OC.  He has one less full time coach than Maynard did.  When they slid Good into the HC spot, they should have let him hire an OC.  I know a lot of alumni who are not happy about those shenanigans.  Martinez, the President and others will tell you football is important, but they aren't putting their money where their mouth is.
