Quote from: 10Freeway on September 29, 2024, 04:31:51 PMWell, the Bulldogs now have scored 13 points in 3 games and had less than 200 yards of total offense last night.  It took 12 quarters for UR to score their first TD of the season.  They are averaging 3.3 yards a play and have converted 7-39 3 downs and 0-7 4 downs.  Absolutely shameful.

Redlands is eerily starting to look just like Occidental when they fired Dale Widolff in 2011 after 30 years of dedicated service and program building success. They were never the same after that and the program was dead less than 10 years later.

Mike Maynard was in charge at Redlands for 30 years as well, and the program has hit rock bottom in less than 4 years after he was pushed out. It's a sad state of affairs currently at Redlands, and I hope the program survives because right now it's not looking good.

I agree with RBF in regards to the offense. Since we can not get a first down out of our spread formations, time to make a change. We have a couple decent O linemen and we are Husky/Fat upfront...So lets start running power, two tights, tackle overs, Fullbacks, Power I, etc...and just live die by power. Offense has been giving up 7 points a game and six turnovers, this would stop....We have a big back lets just pound it out versus watching the adjustment of a half roll out into an interception, or running zone read with a cutback and giving linebackers an extra second to run us down...Lets stopping helping the other teams beat us.

My Freshman year at Redlands we ran the Wing T. And Redlands at the time was coming off back to back SCIAC Championships. We were loaded with talent and still ran that offense. We obliterated teams with it, so why not run an advanced version (Wing Gun T)of it as it allows for better use of the talent you already have on the roster.

SCIAC Score Predictions

Redlands 49 - La Verne 7 - Redlands will try to score as many points as possible. Historically enjoys running it up against lesser opponents to pad stats
Chapman 42 - Cal Lu - 14 - If Chapman is able to stop the pass, this should be an easy win for them
Pomona 24 - CMS - 20 - Pomona pulls off the upset... Poor QB play of CMS will lead to the loss.

Big news and most likely not great news. Jeff Martinez UR's AD for a billion years is going to retire next year. More to come out of this issue, but it looks like all coaches at UR will be safe unless they tweet "where can I get a firecracker".

My fear is we go down the Oxy path and a DEI hire, it will mean the end to 90% of the football donors. Pres says she is pro sports, time will tell.

Interesting.  Hard to believe that Redlands is an underdog to most D3 Football writer against La Verne?  I am not sure I agree, but I also can't believe that both teams are winless (La Verne I believe) and Redlands can't score.  Really hope that Redlands pulls it together because I hate reading all the whining by you Redlands faithful.  :)

My call on the new Redlands AD.  The school is doing a "national search", but they brought Geoff Roche back in a fundraising role last Spring and his wife is the associate AD.  It will be one of them or they will bring in an AD that has overseen dropping a football program and how to navigate that path.

Jeff Martinez is a good man and did a great job as AD at Redlands. His retirement is well deserved, and honestly he's getting out at the right time.

Rachel Roche would be the logical selection if they promote from within. She's been there a long time and has worked her way up through the ranks.

Been lurking these fourms for the better part of 20+ years. I have ties to CMS and Redlands programs. Anywho I was at CMS vs PP last night.

CMS is well coached and very tough on D. Their MLB is all over the place. They have a lot of range in the secondary. High quality D. PP is super scrappy on D and has 3 stud WR type guys. #0 is an absolute dude and CMS had trouble matching up with his length and jumping ability. CMS doesn't look to be as good on the OL as they have the past few years. They are big but don't get a ton of movement and Edwards has to be his own blocker a lot of the time.

CMS will have their hands full with Chapman and IMHO is a notch or two below the top NWC teams. Their D will keep them in every game though and if they can get Edwards some space they'll be a tough out.

PP looked like they can give Redlands trouble if the Bulldogs don't get it together. Hard to believe how much UR has come back to the pack from a talent standpoint since the Maynard incident.

I'll probably go to CMS-Chapman next week. I miss watching the games on the web but I would rather listen to a lecture from the Oxy AD than pay for flo sports.

Watched the UR game. As RBF and I assumed UR would have to run their offense differently. UR ran a lot of double TE and even sat in traditional I backs, running dive, blast etc. I would expect to see more. UR running backs looked comfortable in the I formation. UR right side appears to be much better run blockers than the left. QB looked more comfortable under center, not great but better. I would expect to see a few more power formations and some counters out of UR, play action passes as backers move up to stop run. Defense played excellent, LV loves versions of RPO's and we shut it down. One final point of concern of which UR fixed in the middle of the game, our kick off coverage needs some work. The run back by LV for a TD, UR was close to having no one between the hash marks. Subsequent kick offs were better so obviously Coach Lord and staff saw it. Overall we needed this game.

Credit to Redlands beating La Verne. Any win at this point is great, and hopefully can be used as a stepping stone to build back to the standard that Redlands football was for 30+ years.

I've been harsh on Jim Good, and my doubts are still there, but I will never wish for someone to fail. The program is bigger than one person, so beat Pomona and keep stacking wins. Go Dawgs!

This is good! We have been asking for a change and the coaching staff made the correct adjustments. The spread system while modern is not the only way to play offense.

Innovation is constant, so why not take the best of all offensive systems and create your own that sets you up for sustained success.

Dr. Doolittle

Redlands looked decent running it down La Verne's throat and should continue this theme.  They have a Big, Strong RB who can pound the ball.  Redlands will likely beat CLU, but the rest of the SCIAC will be tough.
