Dr. D

I had the CLU Game on too during the UR game Flo Sports will let you watch two at a time, I thought Cal Lu looked much better than week 1, always a good sign if a teams improve as season moves on. I think Chapman is the best team, followed by CMS...but would not be surprised at a couple upsets this year. League is down for sure.

PP/CMS had a nice crowd too...PP was packed.

Old Dog,
CLU did what Redlands did--they were able to finally run the ball.  Amazing what a balanced offense can do to open up the passing game.  They have improved, I agree, but will be surprised if they win more than the La Verne game.  I am hopeful they can pull that game off, but the program is also changing for the worse.

Does anyone have insight on the Redlands and Pomona game? Did Redlands offense just play poorly (again) or did Pomona's defense look good?

The Third Division

Is it safe to assume Chapman gonna run the table at this point?

I think both--Redlands is just not a good team this year.  I think the Redlands--CLU game this year could be a battle.

I don't think it's ever safe to assume anything in the SCIAC.   It seems like every year something crazy happens to upend things.

I would have to agree with that. Over the last 10 seasons the SCIAC has never had a back to back winner. Who knows how this will all shake out.

The Smudge Pot Game will be the game of the week and I think it is a toss up for the first time in like 7 years.  Redlands has been dominant, but the Trophy may stay in Thousand Oaks this year which is more a reflection of Redlands decline, than CLU rise.

Indeed they were. My last game at Redlands ended their SCIAC 4 peat quest on their home field in OT. It was a glorious way to go out.

SoCalLance

La Verne had a very good running back and mobile QB that season. They were lighting up the scoreboard during SCIAC play.

olddog

That La Verne team has the best running back the last 10 years (slightly better than Kwami from Oxy) , He wanted to go to Redlands but could not get in. They had a nice QB and lastly as we all forget, if you O line is the key in the SCIAC. It was pretty good, had a couple all league guys. They were able to run the RPO with that crew.

My comments on the Pomona game, I went back and even watched a quarter of the replay on Flo Network.
I really have nothing new to say about UR offense. What Pomona did by second series we will see the rest of the season if our QB does not come back. Expect 7 and 8 in the box, when the slant d linemen if it works we are now second or third and long, coverages will depend on down and distance. Our third and long plays are very limited. We struggle to throw short hooks and outs...Defense never gave up a long drive and we loss. A turnover is like three turnovers, given our offense. Defense or Special teams has to make a "play" TD or short field or we will lose every game. UR needs to approve an OC job, then revamp. A new coach wont solve the fundamental issue, until they open up the OC position. All the leading teams in the league (and D3) are structured with a full time OC, DC....5 full time guys.

Old Dog,   What do you think will happen in CLU-Redlands game Sat?
