RBF,

I had a long conversation a few months ago with Ex Oxy FB players (some we studs from the past), one they feel the school played them for fools in saving football a couple years before the plug was pulled, and they think it will never happen. It is not a money or safety issues. All the old heads have died and pass their endowment money to the school. A quote from one of the players, even when we played the schools hated football players, from the AD, admin, teachers to the security guard.

Olddog, that's how a lot of alumni football players feel at UR.  The campaign for athletics raised a lot of money, where did it go?  There is no new football locker room or football offices, like they said would be built.  They need football for male enrollment numbers, but they don't want any accountability when it comes to donations and money.

Hearing UR is in some trouble with their aging athletic facilities.  Currier Gym is coming up on 100 years old and is showing its age badly, the field house has not had an overhaul 23 years, the football stadium is coming up on 60 years of use, the track is 20 years old.  That's a lot of money UR does not have to build new or reinvigorate their facilities.  High schools are outpacing UR facilities and that is not a good thing when looking to recruit.  When I got to UR, the facilities were much better than any high school, not so much any more.

10,

Wise donors earmarked their money, so I am not hearing major complaints.
Your point about UR Facilities is valid, but UR is not alone. I think with Jeff M retiring, some movement can happen. The weight room came out nice and FB oriented.

I've seen better middle school gyms than Currier. That gym was outdated when I was at Redlands in the 90'sz

RBF where you there when D1 teams would stop at Redlands and have a tune up game before heading to Hawaii...
UR hung in there pretty well.

Redlands was not good at basketball when I was there. They are good now though, finally hired a strong coach.

Redlands is way behind most of the rest of the league as far as athletic facilities are concerned. CMS, Pomona, Cal Lu, and Chapman are all in significantly better places and CMS and Pomona have cash to burn and are continuing to improve. Wild world where Pomona and Claremont are the conference bullies

Happy that Whittier got their man and seems like they took the process seriously. That will be a real struggle but this guy seems to know what he's getting himself into. Any word on Laverne? I know someone who interviewed but that was 2 weeks ago. They need to get someone in place post haste!

31,

I don't how LV even recruits with out a coach, there will not be much meat left on the bone when they get one hired. 2025 season should not even be used as a metric for this coach.

There aren't a whole lot of D3 head jobs in So Cal.  I would think the SCIAC schools would have assistants vying for the the Laverne job.  Only way to be a head coach without moving from So Cal.  Any word on the hire at LV?

I know for a fact there were SCIAC assistants who interviewed for the ULV job but that was a couple weeks ago. I have no idea what is taking so long but I can't think of any answers that would make it a good thing.

olddog

I know UR spring FB starts in a couple weeks, what the heck is going on at LV...are they going to skip Spring Ball? School is done in 2.5 months.

Thanks Third, Sanchez is an interesting hire, I would have expected someone more local, JC coach etc.
I guess no SCIAC assistants wanted it or made the cut.

I think it's a strange hire as well but I am hopeful it works out for them. I know a SCIAC assistant who interviewed and is extremely qualified. I also know a few other SCIAC assistants who they should have reached out to. Maybe they did and they weren't interested.

For ULV to succeed they will need to do very well with local SoCal recruiting. ULV is not going to get a bunch of out-of-staters like Claremont and Pomona. We'll have to see if Sanchez has the SoCal high school recruiting ties to make that happen. Obviously he convinced the hiring committee that he does.

That Guy, based on your knowledge it is a vert interesting hire. Maybe the new energy will help ULV, I think LV has to commit to FB, the stadium is the worse in the league. I have not seen their other facilities in years.
There is enough talent in a 45 minute radius to have a good team, but I think they poor boy everything at LV.
