Redlands has a new Athletic Director from Juniata College in Pennsylvania. I was hoping they would hire someone from a university with a strong football program, but sadly that's not the case.

The new AD led the search and hired the existing coach who has been in charge since the 2023 season.

The only sports that have had any success lately are Men's and Women's Volleyball.  The athletic  department as a whole has been very bad.  Maybe she knew she couldn't be successful there and wanted out.

Or did a **** job and left before she was fired. Who knows really, but would have liked to seen who the other candidates were as the job is certainly attractive.

There was a lot of advertising in the D-III college athletics world for this position so I'm guessing they got a good pool.

It would have been great to hire an AD that has a track record of big fundraising.  UR is in desperate need of some facility upgrades and it doesn't seem, I can't find anywhere, that she has ran some large capital campaigns.  We all know UR, they took the easy hire.  She was at Claremont, so our current administration knows her.  They weren't going to bring in an agent of change that would disrupt the current system.

Pat, I have heard that the pool of candidates was not very strong at all.  Board of Trustee members are dumbfounded as they thought they would be able to lure some of the bigger names in D3 college athletic administration to at least apply.

I would hope so. The location and weather alone should be attractive, but maybe not.

If they wanted to keep the status quo, wouldn't they have just promoted Rachel Roche?

Again, secondhand info.  Heard she did not want the position.  Financially she doesn't need it and she didn't want the headache.

If true, that's a damning indictment of the position and current state of the athletics department.

10, great point about fund raising,  I hope she does a JJ Reddick and surprises us. Pat, this is a tough job, maybe at PP,CMS, and CU....it would be coveted...but UR is tough given how turned off folks were over Maynard and how woke the school is now.
One thing about I think UR does a poor job on across the board in the IE is promoting itself. So many good athletes in all sports. UR Football camps are well known around the southland and that was an accident/fall out... in getting their name out there. UR should host HS playoff Football games, baseball games, softball games, track etc...get the kids on campus it is still a beautiful place.

I know this may be kicking a hornet's nest here but at any point are they going to do anything for Maynard? The guy was the most important person at the University for years and brought unprecedented success. The reason he was forced out looked unbelievably stupid then but in hindsight it's totally laughable.

Maybe he has bad feelings and doesn't want anything to do with them? Maybe they're embarrassed about it? Maybe they think they were right? How do you guys explain the fact that they haven't done anything to try to mend those fences and start to repair the relationship with all of the football alumni and donors that they alienated?

It just feels like the program can't move forward until it at least makes an effort to right that wrong.

10Freeway

31 and Old Dog are correct.  The Maynard situation is 30+ years of alumni who want nothing to do with the current state of UR.  Maybe they should name the Field House after him or Maynard Field at Ted Runner stadium.  I know I would open my check book for that.  My gut is telling me Maynard wants nothing to do with Redlands.

Old Dog, I agree about the IE.  Don't let those kids go to other places.  The problem is UR has good looking facilities on the outside, but they locker room and team meeting facilities are probably last in the SCIAC.  That's what kids want. Until those things are updated, or they get a coach like Maynard who can overcome those shortcomings, UR football is in a bad place.

Playoff games are a must.  That is how you advertise.  Have multiple CIF Football championship games at Ted Runner.  Don't make the IE teams travel to OC and LA for those games.  Simple things like that would go a long way.
