El Tigre

Alright ... I want to start of by saying welcome to all the new members of the SCIAC board and hello again to all the regulars.   I haven't been on in a while because I have been busy after graduation, but was thrilled to see the board alive this early into the season.   I want to address a couple things about Oxy's 2006 season.

First:  We technically graduated 20 seniors from the occidental football program.   Most think it was 21 or 22, but Tim Tanous and Kyle Stowers both opted to stay back and use up one last eligible season they each had due to injuries.   Having been through the program for the past 4 years I have full confidence in the underclassman that we handed it over to and I am sure that they will continue to strive and work toward another SCIAC Championship.

Second:  Having blocked for Any Collins for the last two years I have talked to him personally many times.   I am stating now that any rumors about Andy Collins leaving Oxy are in fact false.   He has found a place to call home and will do so until he officially graduates (in 3 years or so ... j/k).   Just like all the seniors have confidence in the returning players so does Collins and he believes that any member of the 2006 team has the ability to fill the shoes of the leaving seniors.

Third:  The WR will be just fine in the 2006 season even though they lost two great players Jones and Fukushima.   We have four returning WR: Michael Adams has been sitting in the shadows of two great players, but is ready to emerge as a domination player this season.  Michael Winchell has taken time away from the donut shops to dedicate himself to the upcoming season.   He showed us a taste of what his talents are in the 2005 season and is ready to astound us this season.  Rocky Ciasulli will be back and has proven that he has some of the best hands in the conference.    As for freshman, the bulk of our recruiting class was WR so this should make for an interesting time in August.   Should give us the ability to create a solid rotation at the WR position.

Fourth:  Yes ... one of the biggest set backs for the 2006 season was the loss of a great and wise offensive line Alfredo Gamiz, Jared Charity, Jack Collier, and Mark Bohnstedt -- biased as I might be. Having lost 4 out of the 5 starters was a big set back, but Thomas Gonzalez the sole returning starter will use his knowledge and assist in rebuilding the O-line.   Coach McFarland, coach Fenwick and the rest of the offensive coaching staff have been placing a good amount of pressure on the younger guys to get bigger and stronger during the off season.  One of the biggest improvements in the offensive line is actually moving over from the Defensive line.  Chris Gerhart's leadership will definitely be a great addition to the squad.

I hope this clears up a little bit of the confusion about Oxy running through the board.  Just because the Tigers lost 20 men this will not hold Oxy back one bit from remaining on top of the SCIAC, and on the road to capturing their third conference title in three years.   Hope to see everyone at all the games because I believe this is going to be a great season for some football.  Every team in the SCIAC has its sights set on oxy and oxy has no problem "FEEDING THE MONSTER!" ;D

OOPs, thanks rbaikie. I failed to correct who the coach was. Hammer( even though that last name is funny) will do a good job based on his past resume.

It's good that El Tigre brought up the point that the O-line from oxy will have to fill in 4 out of 5 big shoes. However, as i had mentioned before and el tigre pointed out, its time for the young ones to grow and mold into the system. In saying so, i am sure that they will adjust just fine. Last time the tigers lost 4 out of 5 OL( 1999) the whole o-line adjusted well there after.  Overall, el tigre covered all points that needed to be mentioned about the tigers returning to the top of the SCIAC again on offense. What about the defense.

BTW-----Whats the word at CAL Lu. I know some of you might have some connections with the fans of the kingsmen.

"Palm Springs pass-catch combo to join forces at Occidental"

The article is about the decision by Palm Springs High School quarterback Scott Saunders to attend Occidental along with teammate/wide receiver Jeff Bee.

El Tigre...
Thank-you for your hard work the past couple of years.
I believe the LINFIELD graduates are beginning to show up on these boards too.  I saw about six of their games the last couple of years and about six of yours.
Answer any of these questions if you would:
Did you follow this board while playing? A bit? Heard other players talking about it?
What do you think you guys might have done different if your Midwest playoff game would have been outdoors? Had you ever played in the conditions that existed outside? Did your team even have other shoes?
Did you ever get used to the lights at your stadium? (from the stands it looks quite dark) Were your high school lights that dim?
Just wondering.

I know this was for El Tigre but I thought the board should know that Oxy replaced all of the light bulbs in the stadium. It was done earlier this year, probably a couple of months ago, and my goodness what a difference. You can actually see the light of the stadium when you're heading down Eagle Rock BLVD. I think that this was hooked up because there was a movie being filmed at Oxy and the rumor is that the powers that be allowed the crew to use the field/surrounding areas for filming if they replaced the bulbs. I'm not 100% sure that's how it happened but the point is the lighting is vastly improved from past seasons (the back of each end zone to about the 10 were the worst parts).

-  El Tigre and I both just graduated and I would say a fair amount of players follow the SCIAC board as well as others -- if for no other reason than to avoid doing actual work. :D

If the Concordia game were outside we would have become more dependent on our running attack, which was very strong with Gonzales and Andersen in the back field - not to mention Collins.  Our game plan would only have been altered depending on the weather and the course of the game.  However, while we were in Fargo the weather wasn't very intimidating like all those Midwesterners would have you believe, it was just cold.
And yes, we had other shoes.

-  Like Liger already answered, the lights have been taken care of, and no from our recievers' point of view there is no getting used to a dark endzone.
My high school lights were definitely better. (Chaminade in West Hills, CA)
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Eye of da TIGER

Haha..... new lights, 40 new players added to an already strong returning group, that sounds like the ingredients to the third straight SCIAC crown for Oxy!!!!  This class is one of the biggest in oxy history, and its going to be helpful in so many ways!! Not only is there some talent in this group that will see immediate playing time and have an impact on the season, but for the first time in a long time the team will have enough players to have a scout team that is not filled with starters!!! Gone are the days when the starting running back was playing scout team linebacker!!! Less chance of injury and more rest throughout the week for starters should help Oxy big time when it comes to game days. Most of the SCIAC probably deals with this problem with the exception of redlands who carries 80 to 100 guys.

Shout out to you Liger, and you Oswald and even you Tigre!!!
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

There aren't too many Oxy fans with 200 posts. You'd be more likely to look northward.
