Fellow Oxy posters, some of you guys mentioned local eating places:

Here's a couple that I do recommend you should try out before a game

JJ Steak House, 88 W Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, Ca. 91105( great food and drinks)

El Cholo Cafe, 958 S. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, Ca., ( really good mexican food and coronas)

The barn Burner (next door to El Cholo cafe.....owned by the same people).
This texas style bbq pit will leave your mouth and taste buds watering. The drinks are awesome as well.

La Estralla tacos 60 N. Fair oaks (just one block off the 210 east---fair oaks/organegrove exit.) No drinks here, but the carne asada burritos and tacos will make you think that the "taco trucks out at the Rock" must be selling crap compared to these.

Any other places you need to know?????

I'll be honest with you all, the only read this board for Browneagle's posts.

El Cholo has great margaritas and very cold beer.......the food is also pretty good, been there many times. next time I go I will have to wear my Redlands hat, t-shirt, sweats, socks, shoes, wrist bands, and will be waving my Redlands banner.  Will I get shot? ;D ;D

I think I saw Collins in there doing shooters once! ;)  He was sitting next to Mark Sanchez! ;D

D O.C.

The Occidental campus is not the easiest one to find. If you send revelers to Pasadena how do you recommend they travel the 7 miles to the football field?

Hahaha. Me too Liger, me too.

I will agree with BrwnEgle though, the Barn Burner is a great place to eat.  BBQ food that's unbeatable and they serve their great selection of beers in mason jars.  Does it get any better?
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Eye of da TIGER ,

I felt like Barbour might have gotten the shaft last year with perennial Defensive MVP Mike B getting the vote - not to knock his great play, I just think he was out done last year.

The good news is that Barbour will be used to it when Ostland burries him in the stat book and makes the biggest difference on the field when it counts for the Tigers.  My vote is for Ostland.

Dawgs Go Deep

One of the local TV stations from either Birmingham or Tuscaloosa had a crew on that sideline and their tape showed his foot on the line.  Oh well, it was one heck of gutsy call on fourth down.  The Sugar Bowl ND vs Bama was nonetheless a great game even for a die hard Bama fan.  The only game that has ever rivaled it was the Rose Bowl this past January with USC and Texas.  Talk about football being a game of inches.

CRZK

Tiger;

I agree that Ostland is a potential great pick.  My question for you is.  What happened in All SCIAC picks for Oxy on defense.

In addition to Bryant only two other Oxy players made 1st team.  One a Jr and the other a Sr.

Ostland made 2nd team.  I have seen him play along with the other Oxy picks several times.  Was he overlooked?  What about the other Oxy LB who is going to be a senior this year.  Ought to be interesting.

Again, per an earlier post.  The Oxy defense, in particular the LB core ought to be very strong again this year.

BrownEagle,

Wow, if La Estralla makes the tacos truck look like crap, I have to try it next time I'm back in L.A.  I don't think I can give up my allegiance to Leo's though.  For those of you still living in Eagle Rock, is Leo's still there?!?

You can hop on the 210 or take Colorado to Eagle Rock Blvd.  Either way you'll need somebody else to drive if you've had one to many of those margaritas at El Cholo's that DGD was talking about. ;D  Unlike McMinnville, you're not going to walking anywhere.  Oh how I miss being able to walk to 3rd Street from campus!

rockcat,
And stumbling back to campus? ;)
The little town is rocking this weekend, It's time for Turkey Rama. For those who don't know, McMinnville used to be TurkeyTown USA, before the turkey farmers went broke!

A Football note, Benzel has been to every 7-7 and looks sharp! Just getting the claws sharpened for the season!

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Oswald-  I dont even see a football field out there.  I know they used the baseball field this year with temporary bleachers (at least I pray they were temporary) and that is the only facility I have seen that is open.  I am guessing they will be playing in the same stadium they have been.  Not too sure when all the other stuff will be done.
Here is a good picture of the new Gym (the one on top, not the boring video)

http://www.callutheran.edu/about/watch_clu_grow.php

Sorry to go back so far on the board but I've been out of town and I thought I'd answer a few of the key questions related to the new facilities at CLU

1) They'll be open for business at the start of the school year (people are moving into offices and setting up classrooms right now).
2) Construction of the permanent baseball stands/clubhouses/concessions area should start in the next few weeks (you can see drawings on the website)
3) There is a new practice field to the west of the sports and fitness center - the stadium will remain the same until the specific funds are raised for the new stadium - could be next year, could be five years - we'll see...
4) They're building them all at once because they had to move many of the old facilities to make room, it was very astute (I think it was Sabretooth that said this) to observe that the planning process also played a role.  There aren't many places more cumbersome to get a master plan approved than Thousand Oaks.
5) The money was raised as a part of a $90 million capital campaign.

and finally (keep in mind that I'm a long time CLU supporter ;) )

6) I've had the opportunity to get inside the building and the facilities are truly amazing.  I know that CLU's facilities have lagged behind other SCIAC schools for years - but they are now light years ahead of most of the conference (with the exception of the actual football stadium, which will hopefully soon change)
The new building includes:
2 gyms
more than 10 separate team locker rooms, as well as faculty and general student locker facilites
a 10,000 square foot strength and fitness center
sports medicine and exercise science classrooms, labs, and training facilities
a dance studio
an events center (for meetings/conferences/receptions)
offices for the athletic department and coaches

Trust me Tom, you will not be disappointed when you see the inside  ;D

Great to see all of you are so excited for the start of the season!

Liger---- I just can't wait until they flame you out this year. I am sure Pat will use all his powers and edit buttons just to see if you make it twice on his list this year. Btw, I am glad to know that at least i have a fan following my updates.... :)
