DGD...As I recall, Redlands recruited 5 or more QBs last year. I have heard in the past Redlands' coaches recruit many QBs because of their overall athleticism. Many of them go on to play other positions. This seemed to be what happened last year. You keep stating you are only expressing your opinion, but for someone who hasn't seen a Redlands game, you certainly seem persistent they have a problem. Why is that? Are you privy to information the rest of us don't have?

No not at all dawg1...but common sense says that if the staff was happy with the 4 qb's currently on the roster, they might recruit 1 or 2 qb's in the incoming class...but 4?   They will probably only carry 3 maybe 4 during the regular season.  I am very, very familiar with the recruitng process and just from a logical standpoint it makes sense.  Now on the other hand maybe a couple of the incoming qb's will be moved to other positions immediately.  I really dont know about that.  From the bio's it appears that the honors listed are from the qb positon rather than another position.  Again, I dont profess to have any inside information.   :-X ;)

I also did not mean to suggest that there was a problem at the qb positon.  The only thing I have to go on are the game summaries and a short talk with one of the WR's that I met, and he didnt say anything bad, just that in his opinion, the position was open to competition.  I guess that is true of any position ...any year.  Except if Collins is your returning qb, he is a stud.

DGD...Thanks for your comments. I was just wondering if you had some inside information the rest of us would have wanted to know. You indicated you will watch the 8/2 Redlands scrimmage. We would appreciate your evaluation of what you saw and how the new QBs compare to the returning players.

I am dropping my daughter off at school, plan to spend a couple days in Palm Desert golfing and then take in the scrimmage.....

I will do my best to give you a good evaluation on the returners......dont know if the new guys will get any snaps...if they do I will let you know.  I am anxious to see how they do if they do get in.

DGD...

Just an FYI...the recruiting process in D3 is nothing like that of D1.  D1 has X number of scholie's to give and then they ask a handful of guys to walk on, which I know you know.  D3 obviously has no scholarships therefore the coaches have no way of knowing who's coming until the first day of camp sometimes.  Things happen every year where guys back out at the last minute.  In this reagard it's almost harder to recruit guys to a d3 school because you can't lock guys up with a letter of intent and know that all of your slots are filled.  This is why Redlands and many other D3's may have 6 or 7 QB's recruited and in camp.  They have to saturate the market and get as many as they can because you may convice 5 guys to come in one year and 2 the next.  A couple of years with just one or two and you could end up with a bunch of junk at the QB spot or any other position for that matter.  That's why the good schools have over 100 in camp.  The bigger the talent pool the better.  D1 guys can just hand pick their boys and call it good.  D3 guys may or may not be there...

downtown....what you are saying can be 100% accurate.   From talking to two players...I formed my opinion about why UR took 4 qb's for a total of 8..  I understand that there is no letter of intent....and you post is accurate and especialy holds true to kids who were not recruited by D1 or even 1AA schools.....many of the kids going to d3 schools were not...usually those guys show up most of the time...its the ones that cant decide between larger schools and the d3's that are iffy.

Your post was very accurate.

California Lutheran University Kingsmen ,will scrimmage Santa Barbara City College in Thousand Oaks Saturday August 26,2006 at 4 pm . The event will probably be held on the practice field to allow the stadium field to be in top notch condition for all home games.Be sure to check out footballer  Vilnis Ezrins Stootsky and the newly opened huge Gilbert Sports Center on the North Campus.Check out the brand spanking new Sparky Anderson baseball field while there.Stootsky has 2 front teeth missing and will be easy to spot when he smiles. ;D Stootsky is all football business now so don,t look for him peddling his bike around campus selling ice cream bars.

Stoonk,

Why do you post as Paohca as well? Your posts are carbon copy when it comes to structure and grammar mistakes. Who are you trying to fool?

Downtown48,

You are 100 percent correct.  D3 is totally different than D1....each team could carry 180 players if they wanted to, so why not bring in 8 qb's a year?  With the cost of these schools its a good business decision to bring in as many kids as you can.....

On another note, I was under the impression Redlands was going to schrimmage against at JC from AZ...is it Texas now?

Stoonk,

Are you still posting as Vilnis Stootsky, too? How many names do you have? Don't you have dual loyalties, with Mount Union as well?

Redlands fan...no you are correct....The scrimmage is with a team from AZ not Texas,,,,up too late with too many beers...sorry!

Just my 2 cents on why bring in so many Qb's.

In High School, the Qb is almost always one of the smartest and best athletes on the team. When in College, especially small College Football, he can be moved to play Db, receiver, etc. etc. I've seen it for years at Linfield. And the Kids know going in they will probably not be the Qb. Many end up being All Americans at their new position. It's hard to teach athleticism! :)
Perfect example, Brandon "Bubba" Lemon, Played Qb and Db in High School, and took hisHigh School  team deep into the playoffs last year. I think they might have lost in the state Championship game? Recruited by Air Force and others,  but will play Db at Linfield.
as always IMHO :)
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

In summation...I think everyone's opinion could be correct.  I guess only time will tell when we see what positons if any the kids are moved to or who will play qb .....I think there may be some surprises, just my opinion.
