DGD,
I believe the practice start dates depend on a teams first game! seems like 3 weeks is what it comes down too.

That and the first day of classes, also part of the equation.

After one week of camp I have heard from a couple parents of palyers that the boys are really going at it and that there is some very stiff competition for spots on the team because of the sheer numbers that are out.

Man it really has to be hot there....I hope the boys are hydrating.

I finally had the cahnce to read the Kickoff in its entirity and now I am very confused.     I pointed out what I believed to be an error with the 5-1 records of CLU and UR.  Oxy was picked to win the league,  then in another heading " 05 playoff teams that will miss the 06 field"  Oxy is listed.

The league winner gets an auto bid into the playoffs, so are they saying Oxy will win league and not make the playoffs??  or arent they so sure about picking them to win league?   Then they  list Redlands as a deep sleeper to make the playoffs, does that mean that if Oxy doesnt win league, they pick Redlands to win it?

WOW....maybe Im just reading too much into it or, Im just not reading it correct.  Anyone have an interpretation?

I think if you read the welcome letter and see who did which portion of the wide-ranging Kickoff 2006 you might gain some perspective.

Thanks Pat, I did exactly that and it makes more sense now.  From the prediction standpoint who do they pick as the winner of the CLU-Redlands game supposedly for second place and the all important opportunity to make the playoffs?
Thanks again for the great job on Kickoff and all your insight.

Looking for some info....UR actuall made cuts and put some kids on an "active roster" and others on a "development team".....I understand the difference.   How many would be kept on the active team and of those kids that are kept, do they all travel?  do they all dress for home games?   Thanks for the info.

Occidental posters-  I'm a former DIII player from the midwest living in West Los Angeles I wanted to catch some good DIII football action & since Occidental seems to be the closest college, what is a good game to come & see?

Go back and read the last 10 pages...you will find what you seek! ;)

Welcome aboard!

DC,

If by good games you mean competitive and possibly having a huge impact on the season for both teams, the best games are probably Oxy at Cal Lu or Oxy at Redlands.

If you just want to see some fun d3 football locally then I'd hit any of the Oxy home games . . . though I'd lean towards Colorado College on September 16 or Pomona on October 21.  Note, the Pomona game is a day game and is homecoming, so there are a lot of contests on campus and the place should be packed.  The Oxy Pomona rivalry is one of the oldest in the country.

Here's a link to Oxy's schedule:  http://departments.oxy.edu/athletics/football/2006%20Archive/2006%20Schedule.html

welcome to LA

Whitworth vs Redlands has a chance to be a really good game.  Your bio says you live in Santa Monica which means Redlands is a long freaking drive for you.  I know that one will be a game day decision for me.  I'm hoping to make it but we'll have to wait and see.

El Tigre

Welcome DC I will be at every home game for the Tigers along with Eye and Oswald ... so maybe we could all meet up for some beers before hand.  Sorry I have taken a little absence from the board, but I was finally able to solidify a "real" job so I have been hard at work for the last week.  Just thought you guys might want to know that Oxy has posted it's 2006 roster.  Here it is:

A week from Saturday and it all starts ... I can't wait!

Thanks for all the quick responses.  I will most likely be there for a few Oxy games considering all the good advice about them.  Sounds like they have a rich tradition & a strong program.  Looking forward to mixing it up w/ you all too.
