dawgs go deep

I saw the dawgs scrimmage Mesa JC today, or at least most of it.......drove home after the game and thought about what I would report on the scrimmage....but......I need to think of the right words to make sure I get my point across without hurting anyone's feelings.  I still think it will be alot of fun watching and discusing on the board..........hell its football.

Mesa was big and fast....I assume they had several d1 non-qualifying prospects.

I felt the UR defense did a pretty decent job.  The offense was fairly predictable, IMO.  They had some nice runs by some of the young guys.  The receiving group has a couple really fast guys. My problem is that I have nothing to compare them to being new to d3 football.

The size difference between d3 and d1 is staggering.  I know some of you guys think not but seeing D1 up close and personal, the difference is hugh, and so is the speed factor.  However, that doesnt make the game any less enjoyable or intense or meaningfull to the guys playing it or coaching it.

I will say that the dawgs were playing with intensity and determination and played hard, very hard the entire scrimmage.  If they keep that attitude, they will do fine.  I also saw some great comraderie on the sidelines.  That is what sports is really all about.

I cant wait to see them play.

RFB-

I am looking forward to that game as well!

Me too . . . it should be a great battle to see who garners second place in the SCIAC and gets in the running for a Pool C bid to the playoffs . . .  ;D ;)

(Is it too early for trash talk?)

Have a great weekend kids,

tooth

Well done, Tooth.

I think Labor Day weekend marks the official opening of the smack talk season  :)

DGD:  Thanks for your comments on the Redlands scrimmage. I am curious about your comment "The offense was fairly predictable, IMO". Can you please elaborate?
How did the offensive backfield look? Any decent running backs? How was the passing game? Anyone stand out at QB?

As regards the defense, how did the DBs look?

Thanks,

rockcat

Redlands will be playing with a major chip on their shoulders this year. The last time a SCIAC team was playing for their third straight SCIAC title was 1996. That team was La Verne and that feat was denied by Redlands in OT at La Verne on the last game of the year. It was a very nice way to end my playing days at Redlands. I have a very good feeling that there will be Deja Vu this year.

So RFB, If I'm reading you correctly it sounds like an undefeated Redlands team will fall to an undefeated Cal Lu team at the Runner on Nov. 11? ;)

Redlands won't be undefeated on the 11th.  In fact they'll have two losses, Whitworth and Oxy.  The chip on the shoulder will be even bigger come Nov. 11.

Just throwing that out there.

I'm planning on seeing the Trinity game in two weeks.  I'm glad to see it will be a Redlands victory. :P

DGD,

Give me a breakdown on the scrimmage when you get a chance.

I don't think Redlands has had an impressive schrimmage since before I was there in 2001.  I know that teams in the mid 90's to early 2000's did, but we never played well in the begining.

I am sure they will get things going for game one......
