Karmalized RFB for that one.

Off to the Bulldog game wearing some form of crimson.
Perhaps a tad much purple attached.

Wow, it's just past 11 p.m. and I was hoping to see the Redlands v. Whitworth results.  I'm guessing from Rockcat's post that the Pirates prevailed over the "Dawgs."  Oh well, here's a short report from the Oxy matchup:

Tigers (as expected) dominated.  Up 35 - 0 at half, went up 42 - 0 at the start of the third quarter at which time Collins was replaced by Goeltz and lots of frosh started seeing some playing time.  Final score, Oxy 49 - Lewis & Clark 7.

Some good looking frosh.  O line did ok, but I don't think they were really tested.  Still have a ways to go before the jury is in.  I'd like to see the special teams step up a bit as well.

Next week we'll see how things go against an improved Colorado College.

Congratulations to the Kingsmen for pulling off the come from behind win.

cheers,

tooth

Tooth.......Here is my opinion on what happened.

First congrats on a big win over....L&C.....Do they have enough players to finish out the season?

Here is what happened at the Dawgs game.....

First of all Whit is a big strong team and deserves their rankning..congrats to the Rats on the win......but....

The game was actually much closer than the score and probably the stats indicate...at least in the first half.  UR had the ball around the Whit 20 trailing 7 -0.  Fourth and about a foot, they kick a fg.....

Late in the second quarter they are trailing 10-3 recover a fumble inside the Whit 30 .  Now, Selway was in at qb( him and Saras were alternating) he was sort of the run qb at the time, and they moved the ball well with him running the option.  They run the ball to the 4 where it is first and goal from the 4.  First down...pass?????? Ball is almost intercepted on a bat down.  Second down, fumbled center snap that the qb recovered.  On fourth and one or two....fg attempt failed because of a bad snap.

UR's defense actuall did a great job. Yes, they gave up alot oy yards and 28 points but ....they were on the field all night because of the dawgs ineffective offense.  Number 44, Kris Richardson is a STUD. He was all over the field. I think, no exaggeration, he made the first 5-6 tackles.

The real problem was the offense, in specific, the qb's.  UR ran the ball well and the rb did a good job.  The WR's were open quite a bit, a former Crespi Celt, led the way with 5-6 catches.  The qb's threw 5 Ints and it could have, or should I say should have been 7-8.  At least two other passes went into the hands of the defender and were dropped.  Saras wants to throw deep all the time and did so, into double coverag all night, #7, is a good athelete, he can run but cant make good decisions when and where to throw the ball.  I was surprised that #11, the other senior qb didnt get a chance to play.  Three or four drives were stalled by int's.  First game kinks and jitters....I sure hope so.

All in all I was again impressed withthe dawgs intensity and refusal to quit despite just about everything that could go wrong going wrong.  On the defensive side again, I remember a hard hit on the qb on a qb run, the ball pops into the air and into the hands of a Whit lineman who then picks up a first down!

Now I think Whitworth was the better team and I am not trying to insinuate that the dawgs could or should have won.  I will say for a fact that the dawgs offense(qb's) were a large part of their demise.  Whitworth certainly deserves its ranking, they are a vey good team.  Two of their recivers are hugh.  I was surprised they didnt isolate them on the much shorter UR corners,  I mean 6" 7'  versus 5"9'!  Thats not fair!

In any event,  I throughly enjoyed my first d3 game in modern history, I did see a few in the early 70's. The tamale festivale was great, I got to meet some of my daughters new friends have a couple Coronas and ....won BIG at the Morogo.  I luv 3 card poker! :D

Unfortunatly, it doesnt get any easier fot the dawgs next week. Id luv to go, but if CLU or Oxy are home, they are a much shorter drive! ;)

CalCat

Attended Whitworth/Redlands last night and was surprised how well Whitworth ran the ball and that they didn't throw more.  Withworth ran strong up the middle with a lot of draws and Clark when he took off made big yards up the middle.  When Withwork split their big tight end out and Redlands covered man with small corner Clark had what he wanted and could of gone there all night.  Redlands will have to solve QB problem to be a factor in SCIAC.  Redlands had opportunity in first half to make a game of it but with fouth and a foot for first deep in ratland opted for field goal.  Later with first and goal from two opted to pass after they had been running well to get there and ended up missing a chip F.G.  Problem for Whitworth even with Cats disappointment last night is the NWC Crown still goes through McMinnville.

It looks like your daughter is getting right into college life. :o

Seriously, I will watch the QB activity especially closely this Saturday.  Will Wabby travel? Will Redlands leave early enough to not get beaten by travel related problems as happened the last time they went to San Antonio?

I wish I could also go to the Linfield game, but Texas is just too big to get to both.
Fierce When Roused

D O.C.

Let's see...in the 3rd quarter Redlands managed a lost fumble resulting in a first down for Joel Clark to play with, an off-sides resulting in a first down for Joel Clark to play with, a pass interference to give Joel Clark another first down to play with, and a holding call that....miss anything?

Redlands played with a good intensity partly because they have seen Joel Clark 3 years in a row so they did not let him really get away with that spread the field and take off to burn them deal (which Redlands will also see for the 3rd year in a row from Andy 'faster and bigger than Joel' Collins). BUT he has seen them for the same three years and he casually tried a bunch of offensive stuff and easily scored with his All American tight end at will.

Those whiners about the traffic were right. I missed a lot of the game but arrived just in time to see a pitiful Redlands field goal attempt.
Speaking of pitiful, I felt it necessary to go to the 590AM radio box and let them know their announcement of LINFIELD leading 21-7 was reversed.

Oh foxy one....I had the Coronas..  she might have later tho! :D :D :D

I have not idea about Wabby, I saw his dad at the game Saturday night but only talked to him for a second or two.  I did see him talking to Maynard at the tamale festival, they were both laughing.

I really enjoyd the game and the atmosphere at Turner last night. The weather was great, the crowd was good, the team played hard...and the Morongo was generous!

Cal Cat posted his review of the game on the board under the heading rats & dawgs...our opinions were......"Identical"......a qoute from My Cousin Vinny.  Arent you in Texas Fox?   Are you going to he Trinity game?  If so, will you review the game?

I have a feeling some other qb's will soon get a chance.

Dens...you are right the defense made some mistakes too but remember, they were on the field alot  last night.  The Whit TE was pretty good, not real fast tho and didnt always run his pattern to completion if he wasnt getting the ball.  He is hugh and dwarfed some of the db's.  I would have gone to him all night.  The real problem for the dawgs wasnt defense....it was offense......qb's to be specific.  And that isnt just my opinion...read the other thread by Cal Cat.

I watched Redands last night and the offense was obviously the problem. However, to only blame the QBs is inaccurate.  There was minimal pass blocking, (none on the blitzes) literally no running game, and poor play calling and decisions from the sidelines.   The entire offensive program (coaches included)was the problem last night.

If he does travel they might need to book him two seats on the plane... the Redlands roster has him listed at 260 lbs.  That's a big frickin' offensive-linem*ahem*quarterback  :D

It was good seeing a solid Oxy win... too bad it wasn't much of a test.  Some solid game experience for youngin's though.

Pass blocking was inadequate on some of the blitz situations but the qb's had time to pass on many plays and did not execute, this 5 int's and like I said could have been 3 more.  I am being critical of the decision making by the qb's or lack thereof.  They consistently threw into double coverage or to a covered receiver, didnt see open receivers, ran and took a loss of 9 yds rather than throw the ball away and what bothered me the most was that on two occassions that I can remember, they each ran out of bounds short of the first down marker rather than take(or deliver) the hit and get the first down.  As a qb and a leader, you need to let your teammates know you are willing to go the extra mile and do what is needed to be done to win football games.  Nothing gets a team fired up like the qb making the play  to get the first down or score.  Maybe Im just too old school.  While the defense played with intensity, the O didnt, and I think its for the reasons stated. Just my opinion.

However, I agree that the play calling wasnt great and the decision not to go for the td inside the 2 wasnt a good  one.  They ran the ball ok at times but when you get behind that much........welll we all know what happens.
