OK boys, let's not gang up on Claremont Man Almost . . . I mean Men's . . . I mean McKenna . . . it's CalTech that deserves some really cheap shots:

Tooth...I'm with ya.  But, CalTech has been a non-factor for so long it's just mean to say anything about them.  Besides, they are all smart enough to know that if your team sucks you should keep your mouth shut.  Maybe someone should pass that memo to the newbie.

I'll give him some credit for not lurking in the shadows anymore.

I was just trying to deflect what I saw as an oncoming assault with a little humor . . . I have a few friends who graduated from Claremont . . . they always feel inferior to Pomona and Oxy grads and are usually a bit socially inept . . . so I just wanted to help the newbie out . . . . ;D

You have to be nice to them though . . . they're usually rich and connected in the republican party . . . with the attendant social graces . . .  :D

NCAC didn't form until the 80's 1984 to be exact. It became the bastard child of the OAC. It has had more ranked teams year in and year out than the SCIAC and faces stiffer comp than the SCIAC. Try geting out of the Mount Union/Capital/Ohio Northern/Rowan bracket. Wabash is a significant playoff team opposite MUnion, Wooster had it's run behind the legs of Sutton, Witt, dropped off as of late, but used to be potential comp to MUnion.  Face it, they play the OAC and are in a tougher bracket overall. Not to knock the West Region, but the only true comp year in and year out is the UW's and Linfield.

Rock- I thought all jokes were in jest? I guess not. Oh and Rock, Cal Tech BBall is pretty decent considering most guys never played before college. They give most teams a decent game and if they had time to practice seriously.. I bet they could win a third of their games. Unfortunately, they're just too dedicated to their academics for that. Which deserves respect.

Wow!  I step away for lunch and .....ZING!

ECS - Excuse me?

Hey kid (your email was a dead giveaway btw) - you couldn't hurt my feelings even if you tried.  My reaction to your comments was just kidding around - but that's the problem with this medium - there is no way to put your comments in their real context.

Thanks though - you gave me a good laugh with your calling me a "2 bit-punk" and telling me to "grow up" (even more ironic given our likely age difference).

Maybe this is b.c I am "insignifcant" or "scared of change" as you seem to think, but maybe it's because I have enough of serious in my adult life (and have been out of school for more than just 3 months) that I just choose to post in a way where I or the people I am interacting with don't take our comments and/or ourselves too seriously?

To be honest, my D3 alma mater is back in NY, but this season I thought I'd try and get into some West Coast D3 football since I have been living out here for almost 7 years.  Maybe meet some fellow D3 fans on the board, check out a game or two?  Expand my knowledge about the SCIAC and have a good time.

However, if fans are really as sensitive as you guys appear to be about what's said on an internet chat room, I think I'd rather just go back to rooting for my Pac10 grad school team.  At least fans from UCLA and CAL won't confuse something said in jest as "slander".

leopride1

The Leos sure have their work cut out for 'em.  If they don't turn the ballover 4 times as they did against UPS, then maybe it'll be a better game.  Tough one for the Leos and the Bulldogs as well.

Oxy will rool, Pomona v. L&C could be kinda interesting as the Cal Lu game should be too.  Good luck to all the SCIAC teams, hopefully the Leos and Redlands get their offenses clicking and a set QB

Oh and EastCoastStag, how many people really get stabbed in La Verne? it is right next to Claremont...

labart96

Well, maybe the CAL fans would....they are pretty sensitized after hanging out in Berkeley and doing gravity hits for 4 years.

EastCoastStag

tooth,
Perhaps i lightened up too far inthe eyes of rock. I wouldn't want to stoop to the levels that Bob despises and that DGD inhabits. mothers are the one thing that should always be off limits..... i just couldn't resist the opportunity.

Pump,
Enough of seriousness in adult life? that is hardly determined by age. However, the manner in which you decided to kid was, well, on the level of a kid. East Coast DIII in NY. Several good teams.

But the most important fact remains- improving the SCIAC and seeing who comes out on top.
I hardly think the pomona game against LC will be interest.

Scand,
Well, I don't think they are ready for a run at a title. The frosh need to mature more. However, with Redlands, Oxy, and Cal Lu all getting ready to slug it out... the Stags should be more than capable (if last Saturday is an accurate representation of the team) of giving Redlands and Cal Lu hard games that could result in a loss or two. Will they challange Oxy? I won't make a claim on that since I am an eternal optimist about my team. But, I stand by my confidence in their ability to play well enough to win against Redlands and Cal Lu. Played well last year against Cal Lu and 2 years ago almost pulled out a gutsy come from behind win at Redlands. Personally, I believe that Cal Lu has the best chance to pull off the upset of Oxy. Redlands has always seemed overly cocky, self-obsessed, and prone to underperforming. Although they play Trinity well over the years, I see them as SCIAC champs in their minds only.
As for Oxy- if they are the SCIAC rep, they need to get much better. Their run in 2004 was pretty good, however, the massacre at Linfield last year hurt the entire SCIAC. Granted, there was a guy named Elliot on the other side who now plays for the Chargers (and started ahead of Alex Smith at Utah if I remember correctly).
As for the SCIAC as a whole, I would love for more schools to step up to the challange and play east coast and midwest teams. The NCAC is a great conference with Witt (winningest program in DIII history), Wabash, Wooster, and OWU. Wisconsin? Bring on some UW's. ODC? Bridgewater anyone? the SCAC? The SCIAC needs to establish itself outside of the west and should sign deals with these conferences to show the rest of the country that DIII out here is of a quality caliber.

Bob- I preferred to stone the blitz on the line and gain yards for my mates in the backfield.

"Redlands has always seemed overly cocky, self-obsessed, and prone to underperforming"

I guess that happens when you actually win a SCIAC title. Redlands underperforming? Last time I checked they have won 6 out of the last ten SCIAC titles. At least win one conference title before you pop off. At least Whittier has won a title. When will the Stags?

That was hilarious. Is that coach still alive? He is definitely a heart attack waiting to happen. Thanks for posting.

I did a google search last night when I saw that posted on the MIAC board.  That coach just resigned his position after being suspended, though the video is 3 years old so his tirade perhaps wasn't the reason for the suspension.

I'm sure that ECS merely meant to refer to Redlands' more recent performance record.   :D

And in defense of Stag world, they apparently have won the SCIAC football championship, but I'll be damned if I can figure out when that was, except that we know that it has to be w/i the past 60 years.  Here's the blurb:

History of CMS Athletics
..............................................................................................................................................

Claremont began competing in the SCIAC in 1947-48 when Pomona College and Claremont Men's College combined to form one athletic team (Pomona had been competing by themselves since the SCIAC's inception in 1915). Pomona - Claremont competed in the SCIAC for 11 years until 1957-58. During that time the team won 25 SCIAC titles. In 1958-59 Claremont Men's College combined with Harvey Mudd College and began competition as Claremont-Mudd. The team was ineligible for SCIAC championships until 1959-60. The team continued as this entity until the SCIAC began sponsoring women's sports in 1976-77 at which time it became Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Claremont Men's College became Claremont McKenna College in 1981). The men's program has won 151 SCIAC titles since its inception. This is more than any other SCIAC school during this same period by 36. The women's program has won 63 SCIAC titles which is the second most among SCIAC schools. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is the only team in the SCIAC which has won a conference title in each sport and they have won all 19 sports at least twice. Each of the men's teams has repeated as SCIAC champion at least once and have each won at least four titles. Seven of the women's teams have repeated as SCIAC champion.

The SCIAC All-Sports Competition began in 1972-73. This competition awards points to schools based on their finish in the SCIAC standings. In the 34 years of the competition Claremont-Mudd(-Scripps)' men's program has won the award 30 times. With the addition of the women's programs in 1976-77 the competition was expanded to include the women's sports as well as an overall competition. The women have won 15 All-Sports Trophies including 13 of the last 14. The combined Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletic program has won the All-Sports Trophy 20 times with victories in 19 of the last 21years. 2005-06 was another successful year as eight sports won SCIAC titles and seven sports finished second or third.

Only one other school has won as many as six SCIAC men's titles in one academic year while CMS has won six or more five times. The most men's titles CMS has won in one year is eight in 1989-90. CMS is the only school to win six SCIAC women's titles in one year which the Athenas achieved in 1998-99. The combined program has won as many as 10 SCIAC titles in one year (1987-88 & 1998-99) and has won nine titles four times. No other program has won more than eight in one year.

In addition to their strong showings in the SCIAC the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletic program has also performed well in post-season competition. CMS has won two national titles. Claremont-Mudd won the NAIA swimming crown in 1967 and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team tied for the NCAA title in 1981. The men's swimming and tennis teams have also combined to win 11 second place trophies at the NCAA championships. In addition, men's soccer was the NCAA runner-up in 1983. Overall 17 of the 20 CMS sports have competed in the post-season and 16 have finished in the top 17 including 12 in the top 10.

In 1995-96 the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics began their Director's Cup Competition for Division III institutions. This competition is similar to the SCIAC All-Sports competition except that points are earned based on national results rather than conference and that there are over 400 eligible schools instead of eight. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps has finished in the top 60 10 times with eight finishes in the top 40, six in the top 30, four in the top 20 and a best of eighth. These have been among the best showings by small colleges and was the best result by a SCIAC school eight of the 11 years.

Ive been accuse of living vicariously throughmy son, although thats not tue either, but never my daughter.  I chose to get interested in d3 football because she she going to Redlands..so what?

Man............who stuck a Stagg up your behind?

You accuse me of personal attacks....what was it that you just wrote, a welcome letter?  Didnt you call someone a "two bit Punk"  I guess in todays vernacular that means ...................hi pal!?

I probably will say something worse about your school so get ready to post another dissortation.  As to my spelling and typing you need to understand one thing....I  hire people to type and spell check for me ...and I really dont care if I make a mistake.  This is a football message board, not an English class.

So newbie, take care of your diaper rash and come on back and discuss some football, have some fun, dish out a few jabs and most importantly....be prepared to take some. ::)  See you at the game.....pal?

Crzk,

LMAO... what a great video...what an idiot!  If I were Danny...I would have gotten up and tackled him and knocked that man out cold!

GO DAWGS...BEAT TRINITY ....(AND THE STAGS)!

However, you seem to be upset that finally someone from Claremont decided not to stand by and take the abuse dished out all too frequently.

I don't find that Claremont is ever the topic of discussion in here, unless a poster mentions them in their predicitons.

Haha... there 'system,' and I use the term loosely is to give the ball to the two tall guys on their team while the rest of them run around in circles.

I do give them credit though because someday I'll be working for a Cal Tech graduate.   ;D
