I agree with you Sabre....but maybe the coaches dont want to burn a year this year...as you know...if they hold him out of competition then he can run the show for 4 full years.  I know the kid has talent...but its rare for a freshman with any program to lead the team.  We will see as time goes by...but I would hate for them to put him in week 6, and waste an entire year!

Quit campaigning on this board for your son to play. It's unseemly. This isn't high school.

That's an extra year of tuition, room and board payments.  I can see taking five to get four at public universities or at scholarship schools . . . but at a private D3 . . . that's an awfully costly measure . . . oh well, you can't take it with you right?

Unseemly...........................  is 11  picks in 2 games resulting in at least 5 or 6 touchdowns for the other team. :o  and no one is campainging...just observing.  I havent expressed anything other guys have and you cal me out. >:(

On another note,  I wish the quickest recovery to Brian Brohm, Louisville qb ,on his hand injury.....  we will pray for your recovery.

PLEASE ...................................................GO DAWGS. :)

DGD,

If Wabby isn't your kid, you seem to have a really unhealthy attachment to him, don't you think?

Congratulations to Cal Lu . . .  I expect that the Kingsmen will move up and have a shot at the top 25 pretty soon, though I'm a little surprised that the win at Willamette had to be a come from behind .  . .  do I understand that right?

cheers,

The Cal Lu game was a come from behind for the second straight week. With a costly fumble at midfield and a pass interference call to maintain a drive for the Bearcats the Kingsman dug a hole for themselves in giving up 16 points in the first half. But like last week the D went in at halftime made the proper adjustments and shut Willamette down. The offense finally got it going behind the arm and the legs of Danny Jones who was the Kingsman's leading rusher at halftime. Looks like the Tigers were getting a little complacent against CC. Good thing it didnt happen sooner or the CC guys would be here yelling UPSET!

Relevant L.A. Times roundup of yesterday's IMPORTANT football games . . .

at Wisconsin Whitewater 27, Azusa Pacific 7:  "Jordan Wells returned a kickoff 92 yards to start the second half, leading the Warhawks (2-0) over the Cougars (1-2)."   Well done UWW!

at Occidental 48, Colorado College 34:  "Quarterback Andy Collins completed 29 of 40 passes for 382 yards and five touchdowns passes to lead Occidental (2-0) over Colorado College (1-1). Occidental led 48-19 before Colorado College scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter."  Oxy looked good,  but not great . . . glad that there's two weeks to further tune things up . . . and in regard to an earlier post . . . there is no way in Hades that CC was going to get an upset last night.

at Whitworth 37, La Verne 16: "Joel Clark rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Pirates (2-0) over the Leopards (0-2) at Spokane, Wash."  Tough luck for the Leos . . . congrats to the 'Rats, I'm guessing that they'll move up in the rankings and set up an NWC showdown w/ the 'Cats.

at Cal Lutheran 26, Willamette 16:  "The Kingsmen (2-0) scored 20 second-half points to come from behind and defeat the Bearcats (0-3)."  Way to go Kingsmen . . . Pool C bid baby for finishing with a NEARLY unblemished record this year . . . marred only by the hard fought loss to the Oxy Tigers . . .  ;)

Pomona-Pitzer 38, at Lewis and Clark 20:  "Cody Peterson completed 18 of 31 passes for 270 yards to lead the Sagehens (1-1) over the Pioneers (0-2) at Portland, Ore."  Kudo's to Peterson and the 'Hens.

at Trinity (Texas) 35, Redlands 10:  "Jacob Cannon threw touchdown passes and finished with 110 yards to lead the Tigers (1-1) over the Bulldogs (0-2) at San Antonio."  Sounds like the Bulldog run defense needs to step up a bit as well eh?

The Times also had short posts about Whittier and Chapman.

CLU and Oxy getting nice coverage from the Daily News....they both deserve it.

To rehash the ongoing debate about preseason schedules...cake walk or difficult...I think this year that the cake walk might have helped  the Dawgs jell a bit more than being squeezed by two very good football teams.  I wonder if they have any confidence left?  Its not really that they are 0-2, its how they lost that bothers me.

I hope they can regroup and get a win against Chapman.

Like I've said before, boxers start with lower ranked opponents.  In bracketed competitions, high seeds start against low seeds.  For my money,  I believe in tuning up smart, search out weaknesses in competitions while building confidence.  I think that the other philosophy (open against tough ones so you know what it's like) is fine, but risky when it comes to attitude . . . there are arguments both ways . .  .  as opposed to what those of you who continue to harp on Oxy's out of conference schedule may choose to believe.

I'm perfectly happy that my Tigers are 2-0.  Believe me when I say that the coaches have noted the existing weaknesses and will be working on them over the next couple of weeks . . . I fail to see how tougher competition in the initial outings for young players would have served us better.  The proof will be in the eating of the pudding when we travel to Bulldawg nation on October 7 . . . looking forward to a hard smackin' exciting game on the way to Oxy's third consecutive SCIAC championship!   ;) :D ;D  I'm guessing that Redlands does not see another loss between now and then.

DGD: I agree with you it is pathetic however, doesn't it seem odd three QBs played last night and all three were picked in the middle. Is it possible there is another issue? How is it all three guys now suck? I remember from last year, Saras seemed pretty accurate and from the radio last night, apparently had 5 picks all of last year. He now has 5 in two games. If he alone threw inteceptions and the other QBs got the job done, I would be first in line to demand a replacement. However, #2 and #3 QBs had the problem also.

The QB is only 1/2 the equation. The receivers have two jobs: they either catch the ball or prevent the defense from catching it. Where were they last night, primarily when running a pattern over center? It sounded like they were covered by multiple Trinity DBs. Does this mean only one or two receivers were running patterns?

We all know the QB generally releases the ball as the receiver makes his cut. If the receiver gets knocked down or gets jammed AFTER THE BALL IS IN THE AIR, the QB cannot stop the flight of the ball. Once the bullet is traveling down the chamber, it cannot  be stopped and shot over again! So before we execute Saras, Selway and the third QB (sorry I cannot remember his name), I think we need to look at the receivers and the play calling, so we can evaluate the whole picture.

Looks like Wabby made the wrong choice.  Imagine if he actually went to Louisville!  With the Brohm injury, he'd be the starter right now!   ;)

Dawgs Fan...

I only heard last nights game on the radio.  It is impossible to make an accurrate assesment based upon someones descripton of what happened over the radio.  However, the announcer did say on at least one occassion that the ball was thrown directly to or at a defender.

Dawg fan........What you say is accurate and a distinct possibility.

Based upon my seeing the scrimmage and the Whitworth game, the receivers ar not bad.  Vollmer is doing a great job but, the qb's seem to focus on one receiver and they are throwing to that guy no matter what.  In the Whitworth game there coud have been at least 2 or 3 other ints, and one of those pass attempts was throw right to a cornerback on an out pattern, not to the middle of the field.  It should have been picked and returned for a td. The qb's tried to force the ball deep on fade routes that were absolutley covered.

I dont know what the answer is, but if I were the head coach, in the bye week, I would go back and evaluate the following:

1.  Play calling, the predictability and situational soundness of some of the calls and try to determine if this is the cause or adding to the problem.

2. Evaluate the routes run by the WR's to see if they are running the proper routes, are they running them hard when they are a decoy, are they making an effort to go after not so perfectly thrown balls.

3.  In my opinion, most importantly, the qb's, any and all of them, are they focusing on one receiver, why are they not throwing the ball away rather than take a sac or throw a pic?  And after what I saw against Whitworth, the qb's going out of bounds rather than try to get the first down, I would question their heart and desire to win.

Lets face it if the qb doesnt play to win, how can you expect the rest of the offense to do so.

Before you accuse me of being critical or negative, I am only saying that I think these are things that the staff has to take a close look at to right the offensive ship.  I dont konw the answer.

I think the staff is a very good one and will make the necessary changes, even if it is unpopular with the team to do so.

I am not pointing the finger at any  one position or any one individual and not promoting anyone with this post.  The opinions expressed in this post are those of the poster only and should in no way be construed to reflect the opinons of the Bulldog fans, players or coaching staff.

How's that for a legal disclaimer? ;)

Guys, I have never seen Wabby play. However, because a couple of you are promoting him to a sickening degree, I want to make a comment. If he is as good as the two of you say, why is he at a D3 school?
