Gotcha - thx for putting things into perspective.  Didn't realize this was a mini USC vs. ND kind of thing.

Is it worth going to the game and attempting to obtain a "scalped" ticket?

Or should I just plan on tuning in to FSW or whatever local station is covering the game?

It probably would....but...if you tell them Oxy Bob sent you, YOU are likely to get scalped! :D :D :D :D

Just to throw a thought out about the rise of Oaks Christian - Has anybody else noticed that Oaks' rise has been accompanied by a decline at Westlake?

Could it be that the cream of Westlake's old recruiting pool now attends OC?  :o

dawgs go deep

A logical thought but not right.  OC's kids come from all over and few are from Westlake.

DGD-

I guess what I was referring to was the fact that a few years back there were quite a few kids on Westlake's roster from Agoura, Newbury Park and the Valley.  Open enrollment ain't what it used to be...

You are right about open enrollment.  The Marmonte league that Westlake his in has enacted a rule that states if a student transfers within the Marmonte League, he must sit out a year.  It was a latent result of the stir Rudy Carpenter caused when he transfered his senior year from Newbury Park to Westlake to win a championshio in 2003. If the family moves, that is a different story and the kid can play.

Are your high school leagues divided into public and private schools, or are they combined?

Just wanted to throw one out to La Verne fans hanging around the board.  I thought your team looked okay on Saturday.  You have a couple of athletic QBs who escaped heavy pressure all game without giving up a sack.  Each made solid throws on the run, that allowed the Leopards to break a couple of bigger plays.

You've got a couple of very physical defensive players too.  I would be very surprised if ULV finishes in the lower half of the SCIAC this season.

coco....a bit of both.  All teams belong to the CIF.  Most private schools are in a league together.  There are some exceptiones and thos exceptions are based usually on travel considerations.  However, those are leagues.  Winners of the leagues, runners up and other teams that are voted into the playoffs both Public and Private schools compete for the CIF championship in their respective divisions.

see www.cifss.org for leagues and playoff bracketing.

Huh?

I should have asked for it in Dick and Jane language. I have to leave now, so I'll look at it later. Thanks for the link.

The "However, those are leagues" throws me off.

Ok...here is Dick.....most private schools play in leagues with other private schools.  There are excetions based upon travel considerations where private schools do play in leagues with public schools.  There are a certain amount of leagues that make up a division.  Divisions are primarily determined by schooll size.

and here is Jane......all teams belong to the CIF and teams that are winners of their leagues get into the playoffs so private and public schools that are in the smae division play for the same divisional championship.

Cone-  Yeah ULV looks tough in certain spots but they always find a way to stay in the middle of the pack and break my heart  :-[  I think this is looking like the year they're finally going to beat the bulldogs.  I think it's been 10 years since they last beat Redlands...

DGD, that is a state CIF rule and not a league rule. I had to deal with it coaching soccer and waterpolo quite a few years ago. And even if the family moves there may be shenanigans. Up here there was a kid whose parents rented an apartment and moved in so he could play baseball at a particular school. School year and season ended and they moved back to their original house.

Yeah, I think the Marmonte rule says you must sit out a year no matter what.  The big controversey started when Rudy Carpenter, now the
ASU starting qb, transfered schools to apparently win a CIF championship withthe better team.   His parents wereseperated and he claimed he moved into his mom's apartment andthat made him legal.
